  1. I have met some very friendly and nice Pinnacle members. My only bad experience was on Navigator trying to have breakfast in Chops. The staff bent over backwards to help them and chat with them. Our food came out cold (cold eggs are gross) and no coffee refills. It wasn't the Pinnacle's fault, it was staff. This and lack of room in Coastal Kitchen would make me rethink my plans. I don't think it happens often, but it did impact where we ate.

  2. We were on the March 5 cruise on Navigator. Tried Chops, Giovannis and Sabor.

Giovannis was great, fabulous food and great service. I loved the gnocchi.

Chops was a very pleasant surprise. I had debated on whether to go or not. The food was very good. My filet was one of the best I have had and cooked perfectly. The sides and appetizers were very good. I thought the red velvet cake was only okay, but I was very full by then.

Sabor was a MAJOR disappointment. The food was bland, even the items designated as spicy. The snapper was very overcooked. Service was slooooooooow. It took almost 2 hours. The desserts was great. I liked the atmosphere on Oasis better. This one is dark and tries to be a fancy restaurant. But, serving mostly tacos, quesadillas and guacamole is not a fancy restaurant. I think they use the atmosphere to justify the $25 per person charge. We decided we would not bother with Sabor on our next cruise. I will miss the guacamole, it was the high point of the dinner.

  3. We were on the cruise righr after you. Boarding was delayed, but we got on about noon.

We had dinner at Chops, Giovannis and Sabor. Giovannis was our favorite, the gnocchi were fantastic. Chops was excellent, one of the best fillets I have ever had. Sabor was a MAJOR disappointment. The guacamole was great and the desserts were wonderful. But the rest of the food was bland. The snapper was seriously overcooked. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes, and we had long waits between courses. The cost was WAY too high for what you got. We certainly won't eat at Sabor again.

Cruise was wonderful, staff were very friendly and helpful.

  4. We are just off Navigator and loved Giovannis. On the first sea day they had a pasta making class. It was fun. We made 3 pastas (which they threw away, health reasons). Then they served us 3 pastas while the chef demonstrated sauces. They served wine and constantly filled the glasses.

The class was $20 and if you make a dinner reservation and tell them you were at the class you get 20% off the dinner ($20 instead of $25).

Great fun and well worth it.

Giovannis is the best meal onboard. The gnocchi were great and DH loves the osso buco. I had the filet and it was not quite as good as Chops, but still good. I always wonder why they serve the steak with steak fries that look like the frozen ones I buy at home. Couldn't they come up with something a little better?

  5. We were in 1734 and the balcony was huge. I have heard comments about the noise and we must have had a quiet cruise, because it was never an issue. With the doors shut no sound came into the room. When we were on the balcony it never got bad. I really loved being able to see the aqua show and the bellyflop competition. We have 1738 booked for next spring.

  6. Our first cruise was in 1978 on NCL Southward. I believe it had 600 passengers and was considered a large ship! I still have the menus and a plastic Viking horn cup they served everyone a small shot of aquavit in. There was a printed booklet with everyone's name and hometown. Times sure have changed. But then so have we. I don't miss the formal atmosphere at all. I like things better now. But, I do miss that chocolate on my pillow!

  7. My wedding ring has not left my finger in the 41 years we have been married. It is a thin white gold band, probably worth less than $50, but to me it is priceless. My engagement ring stays in the safe deposit box with a few other pieces of jewelry. Back when we got married we were poor college students scraping by, big flashy rings were not an option. But that thin ring embodies all the love and experiences of the last 41 years.

  8. The tasting menu is $20. The waitress suggested we share, that it was A LOT of food. She was right, we couldn't finish it all. If you did want more, you could order something else, but we were very full. You're right, it was a fantastic bargain! I love Mexican food and we will definitely try Sabor on navigator, but at $25 each it doesn't seem like a bargain.

  9. We were on oasis in September and DH and I had the $20 tasting menu. It allows you to chose one item from each category and includes the tableside guacamole. It was more food than we could eat (and we are not tiny). Compare that $20 to $50 for the 2 of us and I think Oasis is a much better value.

I also talked to a couple who stopped in after an excursion and had the guacamole as an afternoon snack. What a great idea.

  10. We had an L2 in September and LOVED it. We enjoyed watching the flowrider. The view of the Aqua Theater was great. We didn't have any trouble with noise.

We loved it enough we booked another cruise with an L2 while on board.

Coastal Kitchen has to be the most wonderful perk yet. We had all 7 breakfasts there, 2 lunches and 3 dinners. The French toast at breakfast was great. But they put cinnamon on the grits unless you know to ask them not to. That's just wrong! The chicken sandwich at lunch was very good. In fact, I didn't have anything I didn't enjoy.

Enjoy your cruise, I can't wait for mine.

  11. I am on Oasis now and there are quite a few other nationalities I have seen, heard or talked to. But, the vast majority are US or Canada. I haven't noticed any difference in behaviors. It does seem like some groups are multi-generational but it is fun to watch Grandpa or Grandma with the little ones. Both seem so happy to have the other.

The ship does not seem crowded. Elevators can be crowded right after a show, but not bad. All in all, this has been a great cruise.

  12. I love all the extra space in the living room. We don't eat in the room often, so the table doesn't matter. But, I HATE the bathroom. I don't need/don't use a bidet, so that space is wasted. And the shower stall is just too cramped to feel luxurious. I feel like I am showering in an interior cabin.

I know this is not the standard opinion, but I thought I would share. I am sure you will have an absolutely great cruise in either.

  13. I have to agree with the poster about needing to study before enjoying a play. It is very successful on Broadway. But there you have many options. On the ship, there is only only show like this to choose. I think something a little more easy to understand would have been a better choice. I will TRY to sit through it on our next cruise, but I have my doubts.

  14. Interestingly, last month on Independence, I looked but never found any sign or notice that the Solarium was age restricted. I thought I remembered a notice on the door or a sign somewhere on other ships. I could have missed it. There were very few children on our sailing and I didn't see any in the Solarium, so it wasn't an issue. The chair hogs were out in force however.

  15. I am currently sitting in the FLL airport for that flight to ATL at 10:45. We were in the gate area by 7:30. Now we have a long wait for our flight. We got off the ship at about 6:15, not the first people, but early. Lines were moving fast through customs and taxis were waiting.

Got bags checked in and through security easily. I would not hesitate to do this flight again.

By the way, FLL has free WiFi!

  16. I have to agree. The shows were not very good this week. They seemed very staged and disjointed. I thought they tried too hard to have bits and pieces of lots of songs instead of concentrating on a few and doing them well. I would give the stage shows a C grade. The comic was quite good. We had the 9 oclock show and there were some jokes I would not have wanted my kids to hear when they were small. The act that was supposed to be on that night did not make it to the ship, so the comic filled in. He is supposed to perform tonight.
