  1. I note that Princess Cruises (Carnival) doubles admission fee for the adult-only deck.

Interesting as I predict in the near future cruise ships are going to give you a cabin for free and than nickel & dime you to death.... Currently the MSC cruise line is the most advanced at the nickel & dime game in the industry.

Where will the next charges come from what is the next thing we are going to have to pay for? Entertainment, anything at breakfast beyond a continual breakfast, room service for sure, surcharges for the Captain & operating staff's services, hot tub fees, a charge for towel and bedding changes, lunch / meals in the dining room, priority everything, lounge chairs, poolside table, entry fees for most all activities, library use, club chairs, smoking room, entrance to the outside promenade deck.

    Where will it end?

    Interested in your thoughts

  2. Yes, Taxi cabs are readily available at the cruise docks. You can always walk out to the main street and flag a taxi. Tell them to take you to the Blue Chairs Resort. They will know it very well. I think it's about 60-80 pesos or about 6-8 US$. Confirm the price before you get into the taxi. Taxi accept US$. It's about 30 minute taxi ride thru the town to the south side of the city. The Blue Chairs is a gay hotel across the street from the beach. They have the Blue chairs restaurant and the beach with lounger, umbrellas and full waiter service. Loungers are free, but they do expect you to buy food and/or drinks. There is a small dining area too up from the beach. Next door is the Green Chairs. It's a larger area with full waiter service but no hotel connected to it. I prefer the Green Chairs, but either place is nice and very popular. Staff will set you up with lounger and umbrellas. No charge. But be forewarned that beach vendor are always present and sometimes annoying; however, a nice "no gracias" should suffice and will move then along. Everyone goes to the roof top of the Blue Chairs hotel for happy with go go boys and the famous PV sunset. The views are breathtaking.

As far a dinner...PV has a ton of great restaurants. La Palapa is right on the beach and a short walk on the beach from the Blue Chairs. It really doesn't get any more spectacular & romantic then this place at sunset. You can also walk (7-8 blocks) from the Blue chairs to Alta Olas Avenue. There you will find numerous bars and restaurant to choice from. The Swedes Bar and Restaurant & Apaches Bistro are both gay owned and operated. Timing is going to be a major factor since it's a 30 minutes taxi ride back to the ship plus you have to be on board 30 minutes before the ship sails. Traffic can be heavy during rush hour in PV so plan according.

I have spent a lot of time in PV and you are spot on..

  3. I love reading about everyone's exciting travel plans. Color me chartreuse with envy.

My next journey is 2014 April 3-29 Sapphire Princess - Grand Asia Pacific Crossing sailing from Los Angeles to Honolulu, Crossing International Dateline, Guam, Taipei, Okinawa, Shanghai, Kagoshima and Osaka. I love lots of days at sea. I'm disappointed that the cruise eliminated the stop for Seoul. Afterwards, I'm staying in Tokyo for 5 days (Golden Week.)

    Color me chartreuse with envy.

  4. We are booked on a Transatlantic Cruise from Miami, Fl. April 20th for 14 nights to Southampton. The ship Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas...We arrive in Southampton (London area) May 4th. We will be greeted by friends who will drive us to their estate, Cliveden, for morning coffee and luncheon near the Thames. After lunch we take the underground into London Paddington and make our way to our hotel Giles for three nights in the city.

From London, May 7th via Eurostar, we arrive in Paris to be welcomed to my favorite home away from home hotel in Paris, Le Bretonnerie, in that most wonderful and deliciously sinful neighborhood, Le Marais. After our sojourn in Paris, May 14th we will take the Thalys to Amsterdam for a final relaxing four night stay in Amsterdam before flying home to Florida via Reykjavik, and New York. Join us!

Please...Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions or questions?

  5. Lets see if the ship has 3000 + passengers statistically there should be over 300 "Friends of Dorothy".. Very surprised we three appear to be the only ones on this cruise...

This is some where around my 10 Transatlantic cruise and Trans Atlantic cruises usually attract a large group. On my last RCCl Trans Atlantic there were 30 of us meeting nightly for happy hour in the crown room..

  6. Glad you like her as we board Fascination on Saturday. I do have some questions, if you don't mind answering.

    1. Is the port easily accessible from I-95? And is it user friendly as far as dropping luggage off and parking. We thought Cape Canaveral was pretty easy compared to Charleston which is a nightmare.

    2. Has Fascination been upgraded to 2.0, does she have the Guy Burgers, Ble Iguana, etc.?

    3. We usually try to find one bar that we like with a cool bartender. Any suggestions?

    Your time will be appreciated.

Yes you will get off 95 at the Heckscher drive exit and proceed down Heckscher past the zoo until you see cruise ship signs, ship and parking.

I think it is user friendly re; dropping luggage and parking.

I haven't been on in a couple months and the last time I was on she wasn't upgraded and did not have Guy Burgers, Big Iguana to my knowledge.

The bar by the casino on the promenade deck is one of my favorites. The bar in the Grand atrium plaza is popular.

Wishing you a good time and fun cruise..

  7. I hop on the old Fascination a couple times a year because it leaves from my hometown, and is a cheap get-away.The ship is full of first time cruisers having the time of their life. It is fun to be around so many happy people. The food is just ok. The entertainment is just ok. The ship is a bit tatty as the British would say. I miss a front facing lounge like other cruise lines have. The cabins are dated. The cruise down the St. Johns river is pleasant. A great value.

  8. The Venice Trans Atlantic November 2ed will be my fourth cruise with MSC and I have found them to not be particularly gay friendly. Having said that we are a party of five men and we can have a daily happy hour party of our own.. Looking forward to meeting you.

  10. Curacao is very friendly.

Many islands are friendly when they see the color of that gay dollar.

I don't believe they are gay friendly, just gay tolerant because of the gay dollar.

  11. What and where are the gay bars in san Juan. we will be there in December for a few days before our cruise? We have been to most if not all the Caribbean and have never found anything to gay or any gay bars. I have heard there maybe a few gay friendly bars, but know of none.

  12. Having been to most of the Caribbean Islands and having visited and read about Jamaica and Grand Cayman's purported homophobia my question is does anyone know of a gay friendly Caribbean island?

While our disposable income is welcome most everywhere the Caribbean island are conservative as a whole and outrageous behavior frowned on everywhere. Than the question is what is outrageous behavior?

  14. I think the place is the armpit of hell. I have been there twice and both times I was absolutely horrified at the unfriendliness of the place. I have never been anywhere that I felt so unsafe.

I am heterosexual and I feel terrified in Ocho Rios. After our last cruise in 2008, I vowed I would never get off the ship there again.

Now that I know about how homophobic they are, and their politics for allowing such atrocities against homosexual people- I will not ever cruise on any itinerary that goes there.

  15. I had a wonderful cruise from Auckland to LA on The beautiful Regent Seven Seas, where I had a great suite. I enjoyed all the amenities, luxuries, and service that money can buy. The Regent Seven Seas was a ship of true ladies and gentlemen; my bridge partner was a retired General. It is hard to compare Regent's sophisticated passengers, crew and service with HAL, Princess or Celebrity’s.

My cruise with Regent was a wonderful once in a lifetime experience.

I would rather wait patiently behind walkers, scooters and canes. Tolerate over worked slow service dinner staff on ships in dire need of refurbishment than pay the price for true luxury cruising. I would rather sail HAL for two or three cruises for the same price of one truly luxury cruise.

    To each his own..
