  1. We booked Antarctica for 26 November 2022 on Friday 27 November by phone using 800 number.  Mike spoke to someone with Scottish accent to book and transferred to someone in Estonia to complete the booking for US deposit.  Very efficient with both.  Hertigruten has since sent several emails to follow-up with status of deposit acceptance, on-line registration, etc.  It is a long way off to the cruise, but so far they have demonstrated better customer service than we have seen with many companies.

  2. We booked Star Collector: Beauty of Borneo, Indonesia and the Philippines - 25 days Jan 2 - 27, 2019 in April as an S Category - Deck 4 Forward. In July we received an unsolicited / complimentary upgrade to BS1 - Deck 6 Midship Balcony. We gladly accepted and are looking forward to the cruise! This will be our 4th WS cruise. Our first was on the Wind Spirit in 2014 (we met Strenz on that cruise).

  3. Thank you Underwatr for the quick reply. We have set up the Voyage Personalizer so we should be fine. We will call the TA to have them check on the on-board before we leave for Europe on October 1st. We are on Windstar Surf out of Rome on October 3rd for 10 nights and then traveling until QM2 on November 3rd. We were just trying to be sure all the ducks were in a row. Have a great day!

  4. We are booked on the 3 November crossing from Hamburg to NY and have checked in on the Roll Call board for our cruise. On the roll call board many have received their documents. This is our first Cunard cruise and are not sure what to expect. How far before cruise date are documents sent? One most of our previous cruises with other lines everything is on-line so it may not be "normal" to receive a package.

Also curious about the Veterans on-board credit. Paperwork was submitted shortly after booking to Cunard for their review. We have received nothing to confirm the on-board. Is that routine?

    Thanks for any information.

  5. Thanks for sharing. Do you remember the names of the travel agencies you used for booking? And for which ports?

On Heimaey Island we were with Eyja Tours - Puffin and Volcano - with pre-booking we met at pier and paid in cash (they may take cc) for about $114 for two. In Akureyri, we used Fab Travel for tour to Godafoss, Lake Myvatn and a thermal spa - we pre-booked and paid by cc at the meeting point. It was about $220 for two. Both tours were well organized and went to the same places as the ship tours on a slightly different schedule. I hope this helps.

  6. Hi - I am contemplating the above referenced Iceland cruise and would like to know if it is possible to see sites without taking the Windstar excursions - Can anyone help me with this? I don't mind taking a few but not at every port - Thanks!

Hi, My husband and I were on this cruise last July and had a great time. We had some shipboard credit and used it for a couple of the ship's excursions. But, we also did several excursions through travel agencies on-line for some of the ports at a much better price (check on tripadvisor). The travel agencies are very good at coordinating with the cruise schedule and we had no problems. As noted by others, the ports are small and even with excursions we had time to explore the port cities. We also had two days up front and went to the Blue Lagoon with an on-line pre-purchased package and then two days after the cruise and rented a car and drove the Golden Circle and along the coast to Vik. Whatever you decide it should be a great trip! Enjoy!

  7. From Post No. 1: "I've stayed away from CC since before the cruise on Allure from the 12th - 19th. I'll give a brief overview at a later time, but I did miss the ship in Nassau and want to share what to expect."

OK, which is it? Thanksgiving or the 12th -19th???

    SDATX - Canada's Thanksgiving?

KLFHNGR - Thanks for posting your story. It was helpful, interesting and entertaining. Being retired we travel a lot (only some on cruises) and we know anything can happen anywhere. How you handled your situation was great. You did not blame everyone else and you rejoined your family. You should be commended for trying to help others with your story and not have every detail picked apart.

  8. I just received this email from a friend that will be cruising Tahiti in August.

I called Windstar and they said the tahaa motu day was only for the inaugural cruise. I hear there were lots of freebies on that one.

That is too bad! It was a very enjoyable day with the activities (swim, snorkle, water toys) and the food was great.

The Bora Bora dinner event on the motu was quite a different experience in my opinion. The entertainment was wonderful and the company was as well. The food was less than desired. We heard many people ordered from room service after the event. The officers did ask lots of guests their thoughts about the event and will or have made some changes to the food. The event itself was well planned.

The deck BBQ was fabulous. The food and entertainment were wonderful.

This was our first Windstar cruise and thought everything was done well.

  9. On Raiatea there is a coffee shop / bar at the corner by the pier that has free internet with a purchase. The speed was OK and there were lots of passengers and some crew there. It is coded and the code changed once while we were there having drinks. In Bora Bora there was a bar/restaurant in a small strip shopping center to the left coming from the dock with internet at $5. We could not get a connection there but others did, so it may have been our netbook. Being retired we did not need internet, but my husband was getting the DTs not being able to search for the next travel destination. Safe travels!

  10. Absolutely agree with Susanne. We were also on the same cruise and the day on the motu was wonderful. The ship set up tables and chairs, loungers, bar, massages by the spa, the cook tent (huge) and brought all the water toys. The motu had enough shade and sun to keep everyone happy. It is a “short” port day and some that had scheduled a ship’s excursion were able to cancel to take advantage of the ship sponsored motu day. Have a great time!
