  1. I am researching for a possible cruise on the Celebrity Reflection out of Civitavecchia in August. I would like to fly into Rome the day before the cruise and then head straight for the port, which i see is about 80 miles away, and stay overnight to board the next day. I would like to see how others have handled the transport to the port and their experiences in picking a hotel for the night before the cruise

We are sailing from Civitavecchia in June.

We have booked a room at the Hotel San Giorgio in Civitavecchia for the night before the cruise. We were going to book a transfer from the airport to the hotel with Rome Cabs as we have used them before and they are very good. However, on this occasion the hotel offered airport transfers plus a port transfer the following morning at a significantly lower price so we have booked with them.

  2. If the bartender isn't too busy he will probably make it for you. But you will need to know the recipe/ratios because chances are they wont know. I have a few cocktails I like and I keep the recipes for them on my phone. I show the bartenders and they usually make a reasonable drink. They free pour everything so don't expect 2 drinks to ever be the same except at the world class bar. I used to ask them, do you know how to make a xxxx? Half the time they say yes and half the time you get something completely different from what you ordered.

So true.... but at least with one of the drinks packages you can just get something else if you don’t like it! :)

  3. I followed the link too, June 23rd departure. Category 5 inside cabins more expensive than balcony - weird. From what I can see its the same deal - one half price (supposedly) and free wi-fi that we have had for a while.

    Perhaps I am missing something.

It seems to be the same deal, but with a $500 Obc added on certain cruises.

But .... my email says it’s valid from Feb 14th to Feb 28th, not 19th as posted above.

  4. Q1... I see no reason why they won’t use branded spirits to mix your cocktails if those spirits are listed as included in the classic package.....BUT you may have to specify the brand you would like.

Q2... Same answer.....if the spirits etc required to make up the cocktail are on the classic package they will make it for you.( that’s a great list by the way, I’ve copied it for my next cruise ;);)) ...But we have found some bartenders are much more knowledgeable about cocktail recipes than others.

Q3.... I don’t think there is a Baileys substitute onboard. I personally can’t see why it’s been moved into the Premium package, given that there are so many more expensive spirits etc that are still on the Classic but as you say, it’s only a small upcharge if you want it!

The Pricing wasn't that crazy. It was reasonable. Azamara are launching an old ship with no new bells and whistles in August 2018. A lot of cruisers already have their 2019 trips booked, never mind 2018. They need to fill that ship. Have fun with that with these prices. Sure the exotic itineraries will do well, but what about the Med? so much competition. I wouldn't have even considered them at the price they want now for a balcony on an 8 day med cruise in late October.

    Precisely!

The original pricing was good, not amazing. It’s the ‘corrected’ pricing that’s crazy!

We contemplated moving down to an OV but decided to wait and see if the prices drop to a more reasonable level. And if we see something else we like in the meantime, we’ll go with that instead.

  6. We were maybe on the same cruise as UK traveller and we DID disembark after dinner on the final evening. I was surprised to see just how many people were doing the same thing. We just had to notify guest services of our intention a few days before the end of the cruise

Sent from my SM-T550 using Forums mobile app

We wished we'd thought of it ourselves! Nothing more miserable than the final morning ☹️.

  7. We had an overnight in Abu Dhabi at the end of our Constellation cruise in December. We didn't disembark early ourselves...but a LOT of people got off with luggage during the evening. Seemed to us that it was a good alternative to hanging around until the evening of the next day for a flight.

Whether they had to get approval, I can't say.

  8. Hi, we did this cruise in May...

In Barcelona, the port run a shuttle service to the area near the bottom of the Ramblas. About 5 euros return. Very easy to buy tickets in the terminal building.

In Ibiza, Celebrity ran a shuttle, but if you go outside the port building you will find a local bus. Only a couple of euros each way iirc.

La Spezia, there is a free shuttle to the port building and you can walk from there. We went to Cinque Terre by boat and simply walked about 500m along the promenade to catch it.

Cartagena, you will be docked right on the marina and don't need a shuttle.

Malaga, it is walkable but it is a long way. We used the shuttle which dropped us off at the old port gates a short walk from the centre of town. I think it was a Celebrity shuttle, but can't quite remember!

You can use Obc for X shuttles by simply giving your room number and it will be charged to your account.

It's a fabulous cruise, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

  9. Thank you. I was thinking it looked a little too far to walk, so we will stick with the train.

After a week precruise travelling around, we should know what we are doing by then :)

  10. We will be in Kobe overnight in September and would like to spend the evening in the Harborland area....is it sensible to take the port liner to Sannomiya station and walk from there? Or is there a better way? Thanks

  11. We sailed on Constellation in December and thought the buffet was the worst we had ever experienced. We sailed Reflection last month and the buffet was back to the standard we were used to, so I'm inclined to think it is an m-class v s-class difference.

We are sailing Millenium in September, and if it's as poor as Constellation (not just the food but other aspects too) we will not sail m-class again. The fact that the ships are older is not an excuse for a 3 star experience.

  12. Hi Pete,

Just a question on dining packages as wondering whether to purchase before sailing or wait till onboard and see if they have any offers. There is a 3 dining speciality package but if you just wanted to book adhoc once on board one or two nights at a speciality restaurant were they offering any discounts. Any advice or recommendations on this and what would be best option ?

    Thanks

    Kerry

We were on the Reflection cruise before the one reviewed here. There will be a manned desk at the entrance to the Ocean view Cafe where you can make enquiries and bookings for the specialty restaurants. If you tell them what you are interested in and ask what they can do regarding the cost, you should find it fairly easy to get a deal. We got 25% off Lawn Club and Tuscan Grille. Enjoyed them both, but Lawn Club was excellent 😀
