Bummer that you didn't save any money! I'm still seeing good prices on ours today.

We aren't that far from the border ourselves! We live in a small town, Flat Rock. Just north of Monroe.

And yes, a lot of people in the UP are from Norway and Finland too! It's why saunas are so popular up there lol!

I am in Temperance and work in Monroe:)  We are practically neighbors in the scheme of things!

Yay! I'm so glad someone else found some savings! I really wasn't on hold long, and the service reps that I spoke to were fantastic.

How are you enjoying our frigid Michigan weather? 🥶 I for one am well past over it! It really makes me wish I was somewhere warm right now! What part of the state are you from? We're southeast lower peninsula, but I lived half my childhood in the good ole UP!

How funny, we are in the very southeastern lower peninsula as well--like just about a mile from the Ohio State Line. Yes, we are missing the warm weather as well!  My maternal great grandparents emigrated from Norway. Some of them worked in the logging industry in the UP, some settled in the upper lower peninsula.

As it turns out, I didn't get any savings after and had lost my spunk to argue the case with screen shots or anything!

    Take care.

My original booking date has always stayed in place when I've received price drops or made any other changes to a reservation. There is sequential numbering on any subsequent invoices. I suspect that is so they can follow the chain back to the original booking if the need arises.

Okay, thank you!  It seems like they sometimes lose the original info, but that's great news.  I appreciate your response.

  4. I have been thinking about the fact that we have this little safety net with the Cruise with Confidence program in that we can cancel if necessary and get FCC since we booked by 1/31.  If I'm not mistaken the prices were supposed to be guaranteed as well, but usually when you reprice due to a price drop, they give you a new booking date.  Soooooo, would we be giving up the CWC benefit if we reprice?  I hope that a) this make sense and b) one of the TA members might have the answer to this.

I should add that I did read that the price guarantee would be provided via onboard credit, so maybe they won't change the reservation date?

    Thanks!

  5. Okay, thank you!  I have been debating about paying off a June cruise and I had planned to use some of my credit card rewards to do so.  If I do pay it off instead of moving the deposit, I will not use the credit card rewards and gain the 125% by using actual $$.  Lift and Shift will not be an option because of the Scandinavian routes/calendar for next year.

I appreciate your time. This helps a lot.

  6. So very sorry to ask yet another FCC question.  I really did read the fine print on the website!

If we pay off a cruise, using $500 from our Royal Caribbean credit card, and Royal Caribbean cancels the cruise, they will give us that $500 in FCC, to put on another cruise, correct (or actually $625 because of the 125%, correct?)

    Thank you.

  7. Our health department (in Michigan) said in a news release that they receive 1000 doses per week and that there are 27,000 people in our county that meet the over 65 criteria for vaccines, (so it will be a bit before we see much progress unless new sources of the vaccine open up).  They take registrations at the beginning of the week for injections on the subsequent days.  Our local grocery stores are starting some sort of registration for their eventual participation, but they have no vaccines yet.  Furthermore, the health department's phone system crashed on Monday and so did the online interface!

Were you booked for the Jewel Fjords cruise for Aug 2020?    We had a b2b for Baltic and Fjords on Jewel booked and out of all my cancelled cruises that was the saddest one to lose as there is not any sailings with similar itinerary.

Yes we were!  We had all of the flights and excursions booked as well as an overnight ferry to Oslo, where we were going to spend a few days.  We moved that deposit to one for this June, which is a 9 day cruise out of Southampton.  Similar itinerary but it added Oslo for one day.  I am pretty sure that this one won't go either, so I booked a 12 day Arctic circle and fjord cruise out of Amsterdam in July of 2022.   This longer route was on my "someday" list, but I figured we might as well take it in 2022!  The only thing is, I STILL want to get to the Oslo area as that's where both of my mom's parents' families came from.  I was last there when I was a child, and by the time we (hopefully) go next year, it will be 50 years since I was in Norway.  How crazy is that!!

  9. We have only cruised Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises so far, but we are booked for cruise in Europe this summer.  I am wondering if Royal Caribbean tries to change up their European cruise menus to reflect some of the flavors of the countries that their ships visit there.  It seems to me that Caribbean cruises do have "some" regional dishes, like Jerk Chicken or rice/beans, but I those might be coincidence.  Thanks!

  10. While on the Majesty in August, my husband and I booked a 7 day Norwegian fjord cruise out of Copenhagen (August of 2020) and I have been checking prices almost daily.  We have gotten a couple of small price drops but tonight got another one, saving $489 for the two of us (Guaranteed balcony).  I am beyond shocked--to the point of checking the itinerary while on hold in case they had quietly dropped a port or two from the planned ports!  Just sharing in case any of you are tired of checking for price drops.  This one really took me by surprise, but was "oh so worth it".

Thanks !  Did he mention anything from the States he likes that I could bring?

He loved the Huston Astros, and we happened to bring him a hat.  That's about all that I can think of!!

  12. I have had all of the same (above mentioned) issues about getting into the check in area, and have tried all of the tricks:  going Incognito, changing computers, clearing out the cache, changing browsers, waiting 15 min. for the reservation to "unlock", etc.  My thoughts are 1-that the reservations just randomly lock up sometimes and/or 2-their system is just unable to handle all of the traffic and getting in might just be hit or miss.  Today, none of my tricks worked.  I just called Customer Service and even she couldn't unlock the reservations and said that they will print at the port.

The good news--we are not crazy.  The bad news--their systems have not improved since this last website overhaul. The old one worked like a champ!

  13. My husband and I celebrated our 35th anniversary at the Chef's table on the Majesty last August. I don't remember the entire menu, but there was a great soup, some sea bass, a pasta dish, and a lovely steak. The desserts were incredible and they topped it all off with chocolate martinis! Neither of us are huge wine drinkers, but it was interesting to hear about each type served.

We were only somewhat interested in the Chef's Table and followed the advice on CC and waited to book until on board. We were in the Windjammer (watching the eclipse) and dining room staff wandered around trying to sell seats at the Chef's Table at a discount. When the discount increased to 30% off, we took the plunge.
