  1. Not intending to turn this into yet another tipping thread (there already is one dedicated to this topic), but your service staff in the dining room and the folks who serve you in the Lido Market work hard too. Using your rationale for tipping the room service folks (that they work hard), wouldn't you then tip the MDR and Lido personnel as well for the same reason?

Just so you know we do tip the Cabin Stewards, DR Stewards, and some Bar Staff above and beyond the daily gratuity that is added to our account, never said we didn’t [emoji17] The question was about Room Service so that’s where I directed my response.

  2. Sailing on the Oosterdam June 5th, and my first time sailing Holland America. I usually order a bottle (or two :D) of liquor prior to cruising, and plan to do so again, but I am wondering if you can also order bottles of Vodka or Baileys from Room Service once on Board ? I don't want to but too much, but like the ability to make my own cocktail. If so, would anyone have a picture of whats available and pricing ? OH, sorry, one more, can you bring soft drinks onboard HAL ships ??? thanks so much !!!

Check HAL’s website as they list all the liquor packages and what they include.

Yes you can carry on soft drinks.

    Happy cruising on the “O”

  3. I'm sure that this has been addressed before, but I will ask the ? again. Do you tip for room service. This will be our first time to have a balcony and plan on ordering breakfast and enjoying the views from our room. If so, how much?

We usually do breakfast room service and tip $2, if we do an afternoon snack same tip! These folks work hard and deserve the gesture!

  4. I have taken mine on cruises for a few years. Always carry on it’s considered a medical device. I also have a UL approved extension cord just in case but usually there are plug ins close by. I leave my device out but put the hose and mask in a drawer during the day. Good luck

  5. If you book initially with a PCC you can transfer to a TA as long as it’s prior to final payment. The PCC gets credit for the booking. Any questions after the transfer is done with the TA. I don’t believe one can say that a PCC is anymore superior to a TA but if you’re interested in any Upsells you may have a better chance with the PCC. All perks with the HAL PCC transfer plus you may get OBC from the TA. Happy sailing.

  6. One more comment in our case. We have our high value items appraised and insured at home. They stay in the ships safe when not worn. Since I’m anal I even have a Word document showing all details relating to each item. We have made several purchases on cruises and have asked for a appraisal plus we have the items checked upon our return home. We always buy from Ship Approved stores.

  7. We did not know this on our January cruise. We were the only ones to show up with our life jackets. Not sure how we missed that they were not necessary but we did.

The CD or some representative usually announces what the requirements are prior to the drill, you may have already started to party [emoji16] and missed that part.

  8. Thank you! Of the following decks, which would you recommened:

    Rotterdam

    Upper Verandah

    Verandah

Verandah deck is mostly Verandah Staterooms whereas Upper Verandah and Rotterdam Decks are Suites midship, just depends on your choice of cabin. We usually book Signature Suites. Can’t say enough about the ship and crew!

  9. Been on both in the last year or so and I would concur with taxman. They are sisters and very similar. In fact we’ll be on the Royal again this year for the holidays in the Caribbean. Love Crooners, The Vines, and Crown Grill.

One other comment would be that we have had both a Balcony and Mini Suite, I would go with the Mini, however the Verandahs are very small compared to HAL
