Boarding was a breeze!   Organized chaos is probably how I could best describe the process.   Glad we are in a suite, as that seemed to speed up the process.  We didn't have to sit in any waiting room or queue, so we were super happy.  The only hiccup we encountered is that the check in staff said that one of our bags was too large for the scanners and we had to check the bag.   It's probably because the expansion zipper was out and the bag was really thick.  For some strange reason, all hand luggage was being put in plastic buckets to go through the x-ray machines.  Kind of bizarre.  I still think that the luggage would have fit, even with the plastic bin, but I wasn't going to argue with them.

We were in the cabin at about 1:00 p.m. and met our butler. Really impressed with the size of our stateroom and the overall condition of the ship.  I was a little surprised that during the dry dock last year that they didn't paint this rust on the deck.  There is more rust on other parts of the deck.   Not really a big deal, just surprising that they didn't take care of this.  Perhaps the rust on the sheltered balcony cabins was worse and they dealt with that first.

We had lunch in Queens Grill at 1:30 and was happy with the selection.  Here is the lunch and dinner menu for today.

We both started with the pumpkin soup.  It was just okay.  Warm, but kind of watered down and tasteless.

We shared this goat cheese appetizer, which we really enjoyed.  But is was super small.

For our lunch entree, we had quesadillas and Italian style sausage and pappardelle, with the former being better than the later.   Was not offered any Parmesan cheese for my pasta and it was served less than warm.

For dessert, we had lemon meringue pie and the crumble.  Both were okay.   My SO didn't finish her lemon meringue and she usually finishes her desserts (sweet tooth), so that was surprising.

Service was slow and we sat there a long time with empty plates and were clearly done between courses, so that was a little surprising.   Hoping for a better experience at dinner tonight.    An interesting thing is that we walked through the buffet on our way to our muster station and saw the desserts we just had on the buffet.   And the soup too!  So, we were basically served buffet food for lunch.   Not sure about the pasta and quesadilla, because we didn't go around the entire buffet.

On a positive note, the cappuccinos we had after lunch at Sir Samuel's were delightful and exactly what we needed to a perk up.

On another positive note, the staff has been very helpful and delightful.

Thanks for the update.  Looks like you are off to a great start.  Surprised  cappuccinos  are served after noon.  Will have to take advantage of that when we board.  Happy sailing.....

Do you pack it in your suitcase or carry it in your carry on.    I am tempted to bring my Swiss Army Knife and put it in my shaving kit.

Don't hide it. Had it in my carryon so it could be removed for closer look if requested. Was just at the Brooklyn por last week and back again next.

Husband has a Swiss army knife with scissors, nail clippers, file etc, including a small blade. Are these classed as Prohibited Items?

The wording on the site is

    "

    • Knives and all other sharp bladed implements that are capable of being used as a weapon (including Skean Dhu, ceremonial knives and swords). "

so I'm assuming they're not allowed. Any one with experience of taking one on board?

    Thanks

Take mine all the time. No problem. Even have one with princess name and logo.  Always gets through.

We sailed into New York Harbor the day before yesterday (Saturday the 15th) on the QM2. Because of technical issues on the voyage we were 4 hours late. We passed under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge at 9:00AM, past the Statue of Liberty at 9:30AM and docked at 10:15AM. It was a beautiful morning with the rising sun lighting up the black hull, white superstructure and red funnel of the QM2. I'm wondering if anyone might know of a webcam that I might be able to go back on an capture an image of the ship that day?

    Thanks

    Jack

What was The problem. And was it corrected. We will be sailing out of New York on the qm2 in June 28th and would like to anticipate an uneventful cruise. What should we prepare for?  Thanks

A question to you about Priority Embarkation from Red Hook on the QM2.

Must I go through the security line for hours before being considered PRIORITY or is there a shorter method?  Starting to have standing issues.

Will be our 13th (two short of Dimond status) on the 9/29 to Quebec round trip from NYC.

Chatted with you on the 6/30/2023 QM 2 Boston Meet And Greet.

    Hope to see again soon.

  6. Go for it.

Did the same a few years ago and could not find a satisfactory airline price.

Told our TA and he came back with a crew rate as long as we caught the next flight back to the states.

Hired a car and went directly to the airport.

A good TA will work with you.

    Cunard also offers flight arrangements.

reach out to them as well.

    Wishing you a great voyage.

Looking forward to doing same soon.

  7. We are in a similar situation.

    Booked a guaranteed balcony.

They must still be juggling cabins.

The ability to sell up with the bidding, slows down the process and that has to work it's way out first.

This happened to us back in August as well and we were given an "upgrade" of a larger balcony.

Hopefully it will be noticeable next time.

2 hrs ago I was wrapping my head around how to do an online test. Now thanks to @tomatand several cruise critic posts that's 1 huge thing I don't have to be concerned about 😁

the change is for those sailing from Europe.

Note the date at the top of the page, we (north america) have NOT changed

  9. Anyone have an experience with Princess at NY Red Hook with this app?

Does this app actually speed up the processing?

Do I still have to lineup with everyone?

    Appreciate any experiences.

Will be using this on August 15th.

    Thanks.....

  10. Roy,

Happy to read you are well and on your way.

    thanks for the live updates.

    Three questions for you.

    Are masks being worn everywhere?

MDR tables, do you know if sharing is allowed?

    Any guess on occupancy rate?

We will be joining you on the NY to Halifax portion.

    Wishing you a great voyage.

    Thanks

Hello, does anyone know how I can contact Cunard to speak with a passenger on board QE2?

If you experience difficulties contacting the ship, in case of emergencies, you may call our Customer Contact Center on 800-728-6273.

  13. Not that difficult......

Your broker would normally provide a paper or pdf file monthly of your account.

You need to make a copy of the statement (physical or digital) and blank out the account number and any other info not required and paste that into your email with the cruise confirmation number.

Based on your computer skills, you may want to just print out the page, mark out the sensitive data, take a digital photo of the redacted page and attach or paste it into you email.

    That is it.

  14. Several years back, we did a oneway crossing and fly back.

At first when searching airlines the oneway ticket was more than the cabin and we were about to give up, but decided to check with a travel agent who came up with a great deal.

It seems there is an agent rate for individuals immediately flying back.

The constraint was minimal time in country.  Infact we disembarked the the QM2 hoped into a car that took us directly to the airport and boarded a return flight.

It all worked out well and we would consider it again if we ever do a  one way.

    Best of luck.
