Does the Medallion's arrival mean the a specific cabin has been selected for those who booked only by category?

    My guess is no..

I booked a guarantee,do not have a cabin assignment yet but received an email that my medallion is on the way. Interesting to see when an assignment will occur; if at all. 🚢

  2. Plenty of cabs, BUT......BE CAREFUL of the meter....

Just returned 7/7/19.  Hopped into a cab for Penn Station and driver wanted $34 flat plus tip.

After encouraging a few time to turn the meter on, we paid $24 plus tip.

It seems they like to pretend the meter is not working.

Otherwise, a fast and good ride.

It is my understanding that Ocean Compass only works when you are on the ship.

Problem solved with latest app fix.

    In this release you'll find:
    • Log In by Stateroom Number
    • Bug fixes and performance enhancements.
In addition to logging in with your Ocean™ account and adding your Reservation, you will now be able to log into the app features by using your First & Last name, Stateroom Number, and Date of Birth, to unlock the best ship experience.

  4. Not the first time this has happened to us.

On Friday, July 6th, we arrived at Red Hook off a delightful cruise on the QM2

Among the first off, we walked to the taxi line, where there were plenty of cabs.

Our destination was Penn Station in Manhattan.

After informing the driver, the first question out of my mouth is always, " is the meter working?"

    They always reply, yes.

As we turned the first corner, I saw that the meter was NOT working.

I asked again and attempted to adjust the meter which was now showing $50, an expensive turn.

After one more try and another it will be ok, we requested to be returned to the starting point.

Fortunately he complied. On other trips I would have to open the door to get the driver's attention.

Knowing the usual cost was about $25, it was nice to ride with our next driver who was an honest man.

My only mistake was to not get the cab number to official report.

    Riders beware.....

  5. Did this several years ago.

My initial research for flights yielded a relatively high cost. Would have been a deal breaker.

Discussed it with travel agent who found an unpublished crew rate, but (as in your case) stipulated had to be a same day return.

Turned out to be great. No traffic, no wait. Did arrange to be among first to disembark and for a car to meet us at the port and drive us directly to the airport.

    Wishing you a Bon Voyage.

  6. Hi all! Tomorrow we are embarking on our first Cunard cruise from Brooklyn, New York. We are currently staying in New Jersey and will be driving over to Brooklyn with our three sons and six suitcases.

Our plan is to drop the bags at the port before returning the rental car to Avis in Atlantic Ave. Then we will get a taxi back to the port.

My question is what is the earliest time we can drop off the bags? Our boarding time is 3pm so we thought we would go to the 9/11 Memorial Museum in the morning. Our options are to either park in lower Manhattan ($$$) and then drive to the port, or to drop off the bags and the car before going to the museum and then rely on public transport and taxis. But we can really only do that if there is a good chance we can drop off the suitcases around 10am - which may well be too early.

    Any thoughts from resident experts?

    Currently onboard. Arriving 6am Wednesday

Passengers start arriving to board around 10am

I would guess anytime after that would work.

    QM2 is in excellent shape.

    Bon voyage.

  7. FWIW, I've seen online booking available the day of sailing for one TA. It's possible to book last minute IF space is available. That's a big IF.

If you really want to go, and are just waiting for a medical OK, then call Cunard if you don't see your sailing online. Mention to the agent that you live in New York so she knows that getting to the embarkation port won't be an issue for you. Then pack a bag and call car service.

Only down side is - how are you getting back to NY? Are you looking at a B2B sailing? Last minute one way air fare can be pretty expensive.

Not necessary. We were hesitant on booking our first transatlantic on the QM2 due to a one-way return flight from London. While the cruise was very low priced, we did not want to spend more for the 5 hour flight than the 7 day cruise. When we told this to our travel agent, he found a cruise staff special. Only caveat was that we had go directly from the ship to the airport. No delaying for sightseeing.

    Best luck to you.

  8. Well that can't be good.

Here is the message sent to onboard passengers.....

In order to conduct maintenance to Norwegian Gem's Azipod propulsion system, the ship will proceed directly to Nassau after our call in Port Canaveral. We will arrive in Nassau on Tuesday at Noon and remain overnight, departing late Wednesday evening once the maintenance is completed. We regret to inform you that the ship will not be able to call on Great Stirrup Cay with the revised schedule. We apologize for this change and would like to thank you for your patience and understanding.

  9. Is the Planetarium back in operation?

A post several days ago suggested that it was inoperative, and -apparently- could not be repaired onboard.

    Just off Wednesday, November 25th.

During our 13 day cruise, the planetarium was NOT operational.

  10. Looks like the problem continued on this morning's arrival.

We arrived a bit later than scheduled and docked very slowly with a tug boat standing off the starboard side. Heard on board that the fix was not fully completed. Perhaps the engineers will have everything ship shape by this evening.

Was a great cruise and Captain Oprey and staff, did an outstanding job of maneuvering under the circumstances.

  11. To provide a rough idea of how close to the statue, our signature photo was taken while docked at Red Hook.

Lady Liberty is 1.6 miles or 2.6k away.

You do get just a bit closer as we arrive or depart.

Be aware, that the clocks change on Sunday and next time the QM2 arrives the lighting will be dark on both ends.
