IF people do not see that the CDC is targeting red states by now...................look again.   Alaska, Texas and Florida, yet the CDC will jump to attention for the teachers union.  (even using the unions own wording for their order)   The CDC has gone straight political and they could care less about cruising because of the economy's in the states that are affected.

Most sensible post I've seen on here in a long time.

I just read the new CDC guidelines on mask wearing on cruise ships.  This is ridiculous.  There is what they say:
The CDC makes clear that it expects guests and crew, as well as port personnel, to wear masks in indoor and outdoor areas except for brief periods while eating and drinking and says that "removal of the mask for extended meal service or beverage consumption would constitute a violation of this Order."
The mask order includes while guests are seated in outdoor pool areas.  If you are swimming you can remove your mask as long as you maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet --with the number of bathers restricted. Cruisers will not have to wear masks in their own cabins.
The CDC also suggests as a best practice that face-to-face interactions between crew and passengers be reduced "to the extent possible."

From what I understand it makes no difference if the ship is 95% vaccinated.  Seriously.  What is it going to take to not wear a mask outside?  I am fine wearing one inside.  However, this does not make sense and goes against their own guidelines where they say people don't have to wear a mask outdoors any longer.

Sounds like a blast, huh?  Why any sane person would want to go through this is beyond me.

Sadly, it is very difficult to convince unthinking people to think;  and it is really a multi-tined situation.

There are those who do not understand the science sufficiently to see the benefit to themselves (forget about everyone else on the planet) and prefer to stick with the ignorance with which they were born.

Then there are those who see conspiracies everywhere - and tend to think that people are out to poison them - or load them up with malevolent mini-chips.

Then there are simply the obscenely lazy and/or selfish who, having heard about “herd immunity” protecting everyone, decide that they will enjoy a free ride.

I am sure there are other sub-sets.

Lazy and selfish who are sitting on all that unemployment and not getting a job when there are millions of jobs available.

We have an administration where a fully vaccinated man walks outside with no one near him wearing a mask to announce that the CDC has stated that people can be outside without masks.  We have a CDC director who comes out with impending feeling doom type statements.  No wonder a lot of people are afraid.  The Florida Surgeon General wrote in his resolution fully vaccinated people should no longer be required to wear masks or avoid social or recreational gatherings.  This is the message that needs to be promoted instead of the message of what if this, what if that, this could happen etc. that is making people afraid.

And you may be able to have a BBQ on the 4th.   What a joke.

I have been tracking the Oasis for a few days now.  It has been in  CoCoCay for some time.  Today it is on its way to Miami.  We are booked for a B3B on it July 13.
hopefully it will be meeting  with the other ships, getting the crew vaccinated and then up to Bayonne.  My fingers are crossed.  We are avid cruises and had 14 cruises cancelled already.

    Nope, not going to happen

After watching all the news reports and having a gut feel that cruising will finally restart I decided it was time to start booking cruises again after having 11 cruises canceled due to Covid. Most of them I lifted and shifted but a few of them because I didn't keep up I received the 125% certificates. I called my travel agent and booked 16 cruises over the next 12 months starting in September not including the lifted and shifted cruises.

Is anybody else starting to book cruises for the next year beacuse feel that they will really go?

With all the restrictions, that's a big waste of money.

Among the side benefits of a mandatory vaccine requirement is not having to cruise with people who are buying into fake science about natural immunity and other wingnut conspiracy theories. One of the first hints is when people declare they are not anti-vaxxers then proceed to tell you why they aren't getting the vaccine and why you shouldn't either. Leaving them on shore sounds good to me.

Same as a vaccinated person telling people to get it. Hypocritical much?

We will have a bigger party, 15 of us at least and we live on a mountain 20 miles from the nearest city and at least a mile from the nearest neighbor, we can see 360* around our valley and we have a star party every 4th, we can see tons of fireworks from our perch.  We have dealt with covid on a close and personal basis and we are over it, philosophically and physically.  All of us have been vaccinated and we will all be bare faced and lovin it!  And we are huggers too! 😛

By the way, I used my common sense to make that decision and I think it's sound, no matter what the "Government" says.  Make that "or anyone else".

Going to a graduation party in 3 weeks.  Will be hundreds there maskless and most not vaccinated.

You might want to do some research on why this policy is being put into place. Trying to protect kids does not border on child abuse. Not agreeing with the policy is one thing but acting like there are no reasons for it is just not true.

Yes it is child abuse.  There should not be any kid 16 or under who should be wearing a face diaper.  it's ridiculous.

In the last year we have had our bathroom remodeled, had HVAC people in to do work, electricians and plumbers to do other work, house cleaners (every two weeks for the last few months).  We've also been eating out, going to church and seeing our grown kids.  None of us got sick.  My BIL, who was much more careful than us to the point of not going out anywhere except for groceries (working from home as is his wife), got his first shot several weeks ago and three days later got sick.  He tested positive and spent a week in ICU on oxygen, remdesivir and other meds (steroids and antibiotics) because he had double pneumonia.  He's home and doing a lot better now, but masks didn't protect him.   BTW, his wife didn't catch it.

This is a good post.  Doesn't matter what you do.  The people who listen the most catch it.  We don't wear masks anywhere, inside or out.  We've travelled, had work done in our house.  Two guys remodeled our bathroom for 6 weeks.  Told them not to wear it.  They actually said if you make us wear it we're going elsewhere.

You know what?  We people who comply with the mask rules are sick of dealing with people like you who don't comply with them and walk around with a look of smugness and disdain on your faces.  The only people who have been hurt or killed are people who have challenged maskless people who have become belligerent or violent.

Got some really bad news for folks like you.  If there is a mask requirement for cruising, and there likely will be for some time to come, you will not be able to stomp around shouting about your personal freedom and liberty.  Won't be tolerated and you'll find yourself dumped at the next available port.  So I guess you'll be doing something other than cruising for a while.

Doubt it.  I'll do just like airlines.  I wear it until takeoff.  Take it off until beverages are served.  Milk out 2 or 3 drinks and a couple snacks and a couple cups of ice and the flight is almost over.  Barely wear it all.  Lady sat beside me on my last flight and said if you want to take your mask off, fine with me.  She said it's a scam.  I said you are right.  Had nice conversation.  There's always ways around the system.

  13. Just read an article that many states are returning their vaccines or requesting to the government not to send them as much.  Seems as though that most people who wanted the shot have gotten it.  The rest of us are not interested in a rushed emergency gene therapy injection that was rushed in 6 months.
