  1. I can see Henrys point.

This board has a slew of parents who believe that their children should be exceptions to age rules. Usually the reason given is that they are mature for their age and are very well behaved.:)

So who gets to make the decision about which child is the exception? If one pax can bring an underaged child, why shouldn't another, whose child may not be well behaved and mature for their age?

So a "cut off" age is established. Many may say it would be unfair. There are plenty of things in life that aren't fair.

If I am booking what I expect to be an "adult" venue, and when I arrive or shortly after I arrive someone is given entry with an underaged child then I am going to protest. It doesn't matter if that particular child is mature and entertaining. It matters that someone else may demand the same courtesy regardless of the way their kid behaves or misbehaves.

I'm sure there are plenty of posters on this board who have raised lovely children. I would be happy to dine with them, in the kind of venue we are discussing, after they turn 21.:)

  2. LOL.......how can this discussion still be going on?..we all do need a life......;):o:D

We have no information about how this family made their reservation, heck for all we know they could have been a relative of the Captain, they could have been comp., they might have been staying in the most expensive suite.

Exceptions are always made..........and rules are always broken....an people interpret guidelines differently.........it's life.

Yes it is the responsibility of RCI to intrepret and adhere to their own rules.

We are talking about an "upcharge" venue. Pax are told the venue will be a certain atmosphere. Listening to a crying child..or having a child playing with a noisy toy or watching a movie while others are trying to have a nice evening isn't fair to those who booked a special evening and paid more for it.

If RCI has an age limitation they should stick to it, regardless if parents throw tantrums because their kids aren't welcomed.

  3. Oh yes it does. If Royal Caribbean will not enforce their own rule, then it is a non-existent rule.

    Not true.

The rule exists. Unenforcement does not negate the existence of it.

We have plenty of laws on the books in this country that aren't enforced with any regularity. That doesn't negate the existence of the law. It merely demonstrates that there are plenty of idiots out there who ignore them.

  4. Have anyone use Executive Vip limo service lately? I'm trying to find any reviews, pictures, or limo type info if you have any. I'm hoping to use them for our Disney Cruise in June. TIA

We just used them and were extremely happy with their service.

We rode in a stretch limo from MCO to the Radisson(The town car we were to use was running late. So Mike used the stretch....:D)..and had a Lincoln Town Car for the ride from the port to MCO after our cruise.

Cars were very clean and in good condition.

PS...I would book them ASAP..they are very busy with cruise pax...and they are reasonably priced so they book up quickly.

  5. We dined at Portofino last week..a couple came in with what appeared to be a 1 year old.

We had an early reservation and are fully aware that kids are allowed prior to 7 pm.

The baby starting screaming and to the credit of the mother she removed him from the dining room. She could have stayed and forced the rest of us to eat while her child was screaming. Would other pax be as considerate? Maybe not..probably not but we certainly appreciated her consideration.

If that had happened at the Chefs table..we would have left and demanded our money back. I'm glad the OP gave the kids a chance and didn't just leave.

Sometimes things work out but I can understand why some would question why children are there in the first place, regardless of their good behavior.

  6. No problem Shirley...Joe P and Robert did everything they could to make our stay a great one and they succeeded.

They have a beautiful property..there was a wedding being held the day we arrived..I figured that would impact our stay...not at all. If I hadn't walked past the convention center I wouldn't have known there was a wedding there at all. No noise and the large property easily accomodated hotel guests as well as the wedding guests.

The foyer is gorgeous...nice sitting areas...I walked the property and it is well lit and I felt very safe there. Every staff member was courteous and helpful. Robert is a scream and very professional. He asked us several times if everything was to our satisfaction. He is a very "customer service" oriented person.

There were a lot of "cruisers" staying there...the day we arrived, Saturday, the shuttle was taking Disney and Carnival pax to the port. The whole procedure seemed to be very well set up and it went smoothly from what we could tell.

VIP...very professional as well...we were supposed to be picked up in a sedan at the airport but that car was being used..so they picked us up in a stretch limo!!! Very nice ride indeed. They really bend over backwards to make certain that their customers are taken care of. They are very friendly and professionals. We could highly recommend them!!

Thai Thai is a busy little place. The sushi is wonderful and their other dishes are as well. They have an extensive menu and they were very busy lunch time. Alot of locals go there as well as Radisson guests...

  7. Shirley...Radisson at the Port was FABULOUS!!!..The property is beautiful..the pools sparkle...and the Koi pools are gorgeous as well. Joe P and his staff are great as well. They just couldn't do enough to make certain our stay was a great experience.

The rooms are nicely decorated and the beds are very comfortable...we did have breakfast and the food was very good and the wait staff friendly.

They do have a seafood buffet every Saturday night..look yummy but we had eaten a late lunch at Thai Thai and were still full dinner time.

The food at Thai Thai was outstanding...great recommendation.

VIP limo...class act. We were picked up at the airport right on time and delivered safely to our hotel. Return was great as well..once we were through customs we called and were picked up and transported back to the airport.

Thanks for your great advice and recommendations...!!!

  8. We are staying at Residence Inn and want to try to get to the port early for our cruise. The earliest hotel shuttle is at 11.30, which seems a bit later than we would like. How much would a taxi cost for 4 people from Residence Inn to the port? Also, the lady at the hotel advised that taxis are not allowed to drop people at the port before a certain time - is this true?!?!

I don't know what the cab fare would be but yes, incoming traffic isn't allowed into the port until a certain time.

  9. Wow, I guess no one has anything good to say about FOS. Should I cancel?

I have checked out all threads I could find on it, I just thought it would be fun to hear what people find special about the ship.

There is a thread out there called "All things FOS"..I can't imagine if you found that one that you would still need more feedback on that ship.

  10. I wonder if that "lady" posts on CC? Sounds like a member of the clothes police unit.

Probably not a member here if I had to guess..only a small portion of cruisers even know this board exists.

She is probably recalling earlier years of cruising where pax stayed dressed for the evening.:)

  11. My wife got threatened by a group ( actually a mob) of former Cuban nationals on NCL...we had picked up 6 "Cubans" at sea, and the Coast Guard came to take them to Miami..in foul weather, in a lovely cutter. Her brother is a CG Officer....she was watching the Coast Guard and then was accosted by about 40 ( out of 300 or so ) people who were watching the exchange! They were booing, she voiced TO ME her disapporoval at booing these brave men and women who serve...these irate folks heard her and started to encircle us....

This was 18 months ago...there was no security and it was ugly.

The crowd was chanting 'F the Coast Guard...SCr%%...America" and then asking my wife if she thought her "friends" at the CG would save her a@@ if they threw her overboard.

    We exited stage right...

But , other than that, n oone has ever been rude to us on a cruise..passengers, anyway ( except drunken bozos in the casino, but that is part of the fun!)

Good Lord...did NCL security do anything about that mob scene?

And as an aside I always love hearing stories about people, who couldn't wait to get to this country, trashing it. I imagine if they were adrift at sea they would love to see our Coast guard.

  12. When traveling with my parents (mid 80's), we ask for a table of 4, by ourselves, for breakfast and lunch in the MDR (and try to get a small table for dinner). It's not because my parents are snobs, but rather because my father cannot hear that well (but doesn't need a hearing aide, LOL). He can follow a conversation in a small setting, but gets lost if there are many people -at a table, especially if there is more than one conversation going on. Sometimes you have to cut the older people a little slack. Maybe they are not talking to you because they really aren't hearing you that well. Even with hearing aids, there can be a problem (as it magnifies all of the noise). Working with older people I realize there are those who can be very disagreeable or feel "entitled" (the Greatest Generation label has gone to some of their heads). Sometimes meds can cause them to be cranky too. Just be pleasant, do your own thing, and realize it's "their" problem, not yours. If they think they're superior it does not make it so. Shucks, there are still those who belong to the flat earth society-doesn't make the earth flat.

Excellent points...I can imagine that if someone is hard of hearing they may be embarrassed about it and avoid conversations because of it.

But of course there will be those that will jump to conclusions and immediately think them rude for not acknowledging the presence of others. I'm not sure where it is written that if you sit at a table it is imperative that tablesmates have conversations with one another.

  13. WOW!!!!!!!!!!! they are in the right place for right across the street is Thai Thai - they just cross the street and they are there - the decor is beautiful, the food is excellent - pricey but since they are the only ones in Cape Canaveral, they go for the high price.

I love and it is my favorite is Siam Orchid but that is all the way in Cocoa Beach - your friends will enjoy Thai Thai since they will be walking - PLEASE PLEASE tell them the highway is very very busy so to be extra careful .

    Glad I could help

    Thanks for the help!!!

I'm going to check and see if I am in their wills before I tell them about the traffic.;):p

  14. Shirley...I have friends leaving from Port Canaveral who will probably be staying at the Radisson, pre cruise...they are sushi lovers..any suggestions where to send them for dinner? I would love if the Radisson shuttle could get them there..so location is an issue. They are trying to avoid renting a car and will have a limo service drop them at the Radisson post flight to MCO.

    Thanks.:)

  15. I was a bit concerned with some of the reviews on CC about this property..as I have booked a room for pre cruise.

So..I emailed Joe P...he called me to discuss my issues.:D

He assured me that the property is undergoing some serious renovations..and that 1/3 of the hotel is still waiting for its "facelift". He anticipates those rooms being completed by the end of the last quarter of this year. The other 2/3 of the rooms and the guest common areas and pool area are completed.

After speaking with Joe I feel I made a good decision by booking a room at the Radisson. I've stayed at other properties but wanted a change of scenery and booked there. After speaking with Joe I feel more than comfortable with my decision. While 1/3 of the rooms are still undergoing the change..he assured me that every room is kept clean and ready for guests..and while some may be a bit "outdated" guests should feel comfortable knowing that those rooms, like all others, are kept neat and clean and "guest ready".

I'm also going to say that Joe P could give lessons to other businesses about customer service.:) Radisson is lucky to have him!!! I can't wait for my stay..I hope I get to meet Joe and thank him for addressing my concerns personally.

  16. Hi Shirley..great job on this thread!!!

I'm not sure if you have contacts at the businesses you feature but I've been reading some scathing reviews of the Radisson lately. Old..dingy rooms..etc. alot of pax are saying that the photos on their site in no way represent what the true property looks like.

I understand that people can be subjective about things but wanted you to be aware.

    Keep up the great work!!
