  1. Flying into Hobby isn't a good option for us. We need to fly United for a myriad of reasons, plus I've flown into Houston several times so I'm a lot more familiar with the surrounding areas.

I don't have a problem driving down around Hobby the night before and getting a hotel there. I wanted to avoid staying in Galveston the night before d/t prices being jacked up and many hotels requiring a 2 night stay. Are there any other areas worth staying that I can avoid the 45?

You could also look at staying in Kemah. It would have a much better vacation feeling than near the airport. If your arrives late at night, I would probably stick with your original plan, if not come on down to Clear Lake, Kemah, or even as far as Texas City if you want to be close but not on the island.

  2. Living in the area.. hopefully the construction on 45 will be opened up and you will be able to get to Galveston easily. That said, I agree with the poster above. Go on down to Galveston... Why would you want to stay near the airport? Hobby is considerably closer if you have cheap flights from Southwest, but IAH, is only about 45 minutes farther if that's a better flight for you.

If you stick with your original plan, leaving the hotel no later than 9 sounds about right. You shouldn't have much wait and would be able to get right on the boat.

  3. Anyone else getting an error message when you try to get into your booking the last 2 days?

Wondering if it's just me and I should call.

    Here's what i'm getting:

cor_systemerror_ico.gifWe're sorry, but we are unable to retrieve your booking information at this time. For assistance, please call 866-562-7625.

    I'm getting the same error.

  4. I have tried 4 browsers and mine have been down for almost 2 weeks! Royal's IT department is the worst! I called and all I get is "IT is working on it"-for 2 weeks!!!!! Get real. So disgusted with it. I have 10 cruises booked and cannot get into any of them.

My sister is having the same problem, almost 2 weeks and cannot access her reservations either.

Wow! And I wondered if it was just me because they recently changed our itinerary backward. I've been on there in the last two weeks. I hope they get it working soon for you!

  5. -----Realize Houston is cheaper to fly to BUT cost of getting to port is not easy or cheap. The week she went, hotels were averaging $300 a night. Just check the cost to and from port and hotel cost if you fly in the day before like we always do. Another issue with Liberty...even if you have a drink package, all alcohol has to be purchased the first day due to Texas alcohol laws...you can't use the package.

My daughter went to Roatan on the Breeze and it was just ok for her. Port wise, I would do Oasis over Liberty. We love Labadee as we always do the excursion to the private sandbar/island.

    ----

This is not accurate information. You CAN use the drink package immediately upon boarding the ship. This is Royal, not Carnival.

I love the Liberty, but I'm doing my first Oasis class ship in August, so I can't really compare. I love the solarium and the crew is second to none. Which airport would you be flying into? If Hobby, I wonder how much it would be to Uber?

For the Costa Maya port there is an AWESOME place to do a all inclusive beach day called Almaplena. We had a very nice time there. Because I've been to these ports a lot, the Oasis itinerary is a little more appealing to me.... Come to Texas. You will have a good time. :-)

  6. Rhapsody vs Oasis is almost like life boat vs mother ship. Personally I like the mid-size ships quite a bit but if you are a big ship fan then Rhapsody is probably going to disappoint.

I would likely agree with this. If you thought Adventure seemed old... LOL. I love Rhapsody. She will always be special to me. But I like the smaller ships, closer nit groups (both crew and passengers).

  7. Depends on what you like to do onboard. I love the small boats. I think the staff and the service is much more personable. We are doing our first 'big boat' trip on Oasis. I like Liberty, and Navigator size... but I had an awesome time on Serenade too. What is it about the big boats that you like so much?

  8. Reserved through Island Marketing. It was awesome. The meeting place was a little hard to find and our ship was having a hard time with tendering (one of the tenders was not working -so they were not very efficient). Fortunatly there was a whole group from our ship that arrived at the meeting spot at the same time. And we had called them and they came back to get us.

The tour went via van to the Holiday Inn. There we got life vest and snorkling gear and had a quick 'here's how things go' lesson and we were off. They were really good about letting us ride fast and have a good time. It was about 4 miles from the Holiday Inn to the stingrays. We got to hold one and feed it and such. Be prepared with your own camera though. The excursions from a boat usually have a camera person to sell you photos. This trip did not. We went to see star fish. They kinda let us do what we wanted to do. We snorkeld for a bit over a reef and that was nice.

We really enjoyed it. My husband and I are 40 and the group ranged in age.
