  1. We were on Dec 24 Asia cruise round trip from Hong Kong. Celebrity provided no shuttles at any of the ports. Hanoi and Ho Chi Min City are hours away. Also no local maps were provided. If you do private overnight to Hanoi, be careful who you choose. We also most miss ship on return. Ship held last tender 20 minutes for us but left before last 2 passengers returned.

  2. We understand others’ perception on the matter and we just practice our own health protection using ship’s facilities like the wash sink at buffet entrance on some ships and Purell dispenser

This is why I avoid touching the door handle when leaving. I’ve noticed many public restrooms have paper towel or tissue dispenser with trash can near the exit.

  3. Can someone tell if they obtained their Vietnam visa on board for a tour done on their own. My travel agent insists that onboard visas can only be obtained for ship excursions. He says for us to do a tour on our own we must obtain visa in advance. That's not how I read the Celebrity statement on VisaCentral.

    Thanks.

  4. We arrived two days early and stayed at the Holiday Inn. Had a rental car from Enterprise who will deliver you to the pier after car return. Hotel very near ship but you wouldn't want to walk with luggage. Hotel package with port drop off sounds good. Enjoyed walking the old walls of Southhampton.

  5. I have organized many private shore excursions and have participated in others I didn't organize. 99% were great, met wonderful considerate people. Had one couple that thought they were on their own time table.. they were left behind, the tour company had another group going ,so they joined them.. I would definitely do it again. On large bus tours there is always someone that is not on time.

Have done several private tours that have worked very well. Some very nice people most of the time. Did one where we had a rather unpleasant couple. Complained when driver was a little late picking us up at a point during the tour. Traffic was the problem. They continued to talk about how they had paid a lot of money for the tour and didn't like the wait. Also they made a point of buying wine and putting it in their water bottles to sneak back on the ship. Only one bad tour out of several.

Also in Pisa we had signed up with a group for a wine tour. The women who had organized the group took ill and missed the cruise. Others in our group knew this in advance and didn't show for the tour. The tour organizer said we shouldn't have to pay for the entire group and gave two of us a beautiful tour for a very reduced price.

  6. No, I just looked up our RS cruise. We did not receive OBC from X. We received the Grats, Drinks and internet.

I just finished my second cup of coffee, I am now awake.;p

We were booked in a suite with resident promo and did not receive promo packages. When I asked our TA we had to cancel resident rate and rebook to get The 4 perks. But it was only a couple hundred dollars more which was less that the OBC of $350. Later the price of our suite was reduced so we rebooked again paying less than first booking but still getting 4 perks. Guess in US you can do this until final payment is due. Pays to watch pricing as TA may not keep you informed.

  7. We are taking a cruise out of Southampton. For the port of Southampton, do we fly into London-Heathrow? Also, how far is it from Heathrow to the port? How long does it take to get from airport? Thanks so much

We had a very good fare flying to Dublin on Aer Linus with a connection on Flybe directly to Southhampton

  8. All of the ship's tours are operated by private companies which each set their own rules and regulations. The ship is just passing that information on to the passengers -- Celebrity didn't set the age limit, the tour operator did.

Which is not to say that you can't find a private tour operator in any given port with different requirements. It comes down to are you set on going on a ship's tour, or open to a private tour?

Would be more than happy to take a private tour.

  9. December 24, 2017: Millenium Hong Kong Holidays Cruise

:confused:Interested in a day tour to Hanoi. Just read on Celebrity site that there is an age restriction! 80 years is the upper limit. I turn 81 before cruise. In excellent health, never had any problems with extensive walking or moderate climbs. Do the really enforce this?

    Thanks,

  10. Our last time on Celebrity you could order any kind of drink. Of course with the Classic package you could only order a martini if you paid full price. Seems I read that now you can order a martini and just pay the difference.

  11. Why do you think it was cheaper?

I asked to book a non handicapped cabin and was told none available in that category, only a higher category. I made it clear to travel agent that we are not handicapped. Will gladly give up it needed. Someone posted that Celebrity will ask me to complete a form about need.

Some have decided to judge me based on their own bias. I would never park in a parking space marked for handicapped as I wouldn't know when it is needed. In this case I expect the cruise line to tell me if the cabin is needed as they do check for need.

  12. If your daughter is in Westborough, its very easy to get to the airport. All she has to do is hop on the Pike and keep going until she gets to the airport. The only crazy Boston driving is on the highway, if there is traffic. If you are coming in on a Monday evening, traffic to the airport shouldn't be too bad. Might hit a little leaving the airport.

I live just south of Westborough.

The other option as I previously mentioned would be the Logan Express. You pick it up right outside the terminal, and it will bring you to Framingham. One way fare is $12.00. The depot in Framingham is right off the Pike.

I hadn't thought of the Logan Express which is an excellent idea. I would not recommend a new comer to drive to the airport. Having lived in the Boston area for 50 years I would say the Boston driving is crazy on both highways and streets.

  13. For a first timer, 5 minutes probably won't be enough time. The Silver runs every 8 minutes but may run late if heavy traffic on the T. Once in the lobby of South station you must check the departure board to find which tract from which your train leaves. Rushing around is part of getting around in Boston. You may just have to wait until the next commuter train for Framingham. I'm not sure but it was possible to pay for your ticket on the train for an extra fee during rush hour.

  14. If you've been there before you should know to stay out of the port area. Get off the boat and go directly into a cab and go somewhere. Nothing to do in town except look at poor people and likely get mugged or worse. We're enjoying the boat the day we're there. It's a crummy port in my view other than visiting the Gatun locks

We disembark in Colon. Any issues with leaving the ship and getting a taxi to take us to our hotel in Panama City?

  15. We sail on QE in October to the Greek Islands and really looking forward to it.

Having just returned from TA on the remastered QM2 we were spoilt with the lovely new and v large flat screen tv on the wall opposite the end of the bed. Just wondering if the televisions on QE are still located in the corner on top of the fridge area where they were last time I was on her in 2011. We are on deck 5.

Just returned from QE sailing. TV's are on the wall. In our stateroom there were 2 TV's. Problem was when turning off the one in the sitting area, the one in the bedroom would turn on. After a week still didn't know which remote to use or how to stop this.

  16. Is it possible to drop off our luggage and then return later to do checkin? We have a rental car wonder if at the Queen Elizabeth thermal we could drop our luggage and then checkin later.

  17. yes but now that all the flambe items are off the ala carte menu, they flambe only when the item makes its appearance on the daily menu. So we got chateu briand one day only, lamb one day only, no duck yet which is my favorite.

my complaint is that Cunard sold tickets based on promoting the a la carte menu that was then summarily removed as a presumably cost cutting measure while we en up paying the same price. i doubt anyone was clamoring for turbot, sirloin, and raviolievery night instead of duck, lamb, filet, and chateu briand.

Having scallops on the ala carte menu is not a cost cutting measure. Scallops cost as much as the beef needed for a chateaubriand where I live which is the Atlantic course of the USA. I would rather have a special prepared ravioli than a boring shrimp cocktail anytime. I also like duck but once if it's on the daily menu is fine with me.
