On our upcoming cruise we have not been given an actual time of arrival back to Southampton. I don't think that Cunard gives an exact time of arrival. We were told that we will dock as an estimate at about 6:30. That is not a quarantine. We are doing self disembarkation to make a 10:15 flight from Southampton airport. I believe if we miss our flight is entirely our responsibility since we booked on our own.

Now after reading I am a little worried but that's my nature.

Due to Queen Elizabeth's late arrival at Southampton we missed our flight from Heathrow to Prague and were denied a refund by the airline.
SAZ.

We are looking at 2 longer cruises on the queen Elizabeth and wont be able to indulge in a suite . Have past travelers felt slighted because the couldnt use all the bars and restaurants
I think most people chose the grills because they want a larger cabin and a smaller, quieter dining room. Excluding others is not the goal. I know for me for drinks and entertainment I prefer a large friendly group.

I am on this cruise. QE will be in Flam on 25th July and as one of the excursions commences at 07.30, we should be docked quite early.
Yes, my itinerary also shows us in Flaam on the 25th and train excursions are being sold by QE for the 7:30 trip. To me that means we arrive before 11:00 am.
Looks as if the port schedule is not up to date as it reports the ship leaving Flaam for Geiranger but our itinerary has been changed for the next port is Olden.

Your allocated table number will be in your suite on arrival on a card.
Get upstairs early and get a seat in the Grill Lounge to be certain that you'll be one of the first in the restaurant at 1:00pm. Present your card to the Maitre d' or Head Waiter.
If the table size or location does not suit you, politely ask for it to be changed.
In most cases they will oblige if possible.
Stewart
If the Grills are sold out , as in our situation, and tables assigned before arrival how can your table be changed?

We always have nail scissors in our hand luggage and have never had them taken away or even questioned.
Not sure with Cunard.
I know of a situation on Celebrity where scissors were taken from a person. They had forgotten to bring their own and bought a pair at one of the stop over ports. When they returned to the ship the scissors were confiscated. Didn't make much sense to me as others had them on the ship because they brought them in their checked bags.

When Cunard states "early morning arrival", what time frame does this generally include?

It goes to the Kennedy Museum and the Adam's residence.
In my opinion, the Kennedy Museum is worth the trip. The Adam's Museum is good if you're already an Adam's fan. Otherwise it's not that interesting. You can get to the Kennedy Museum via public transportation.
While off-topic: Do not waste time going to see Plymouth Rock. It is probably the most disappointing of all historical sites. Last summer I was driving some friends down to Cape Cod and they wanted to see the rock. I tried to talk them out of it even though we were passing through Plymouth. After the viewing, they all agreed it was not worth the 8 minute detour. Need I say more.
If you're interested in the formation and history of the U S, the Adams National Park is a must visit. It contains the birth homes of two American Presidents. There is no comparison in the contribution to American History between Kennedy and Adams. And I love the Kennedy Family.
If You only visit Plymouth Rock it is a waste of time. However Plymouth is also of great history. Walk the streets of the town and see some of the oldest and beautiful homes of early America.

Has anyone done the tour named "American Presidents" while in Boston?
The brochure and website show it's a 4-hr duration, but takes 1 3/4 hours to get there. The time aren't making sense. Thx!
I don't know the tour but if it goes to Quincy where the Adams Park is located then time may make sense. Quincy is just south of Boston but the traffic can be horrendous and can take a long time in travel. There and return can easily be that long.

Though I would happily pay a premium for the experience of a 5-day crossing, there are probably not enough of us willing to do so. Those of us who complain over crossings getting stretched to 8 days are admonished, "If you love sailing on QM2 why would you want to shorten your experience?"
I would also do the 5-day. If you want more time do the round trip.

Great idea. Our very first cruise was the QE2 on the 1000 crossing. Beautiful ship and never been matched.

Yes connections in both directions are through Dublin. A very convenient flight for Bostonians.

We're on the July 22 Fjords on QE. Flying directly between Boston and SOU.
The return flight leaves SOU at 10:50, July 29, the day we complete cruise. Told ship docks very early around 6 AM. Should we be concerned about making our return flight without problems.

Are there any advantages to making the final payment before the due date?
Expect a cancellation would be a problem even thought I think in the US you can cancel before final due date.

Well, be careful what you wish for, or at least please don't assume that gay tablemates will necessarily make for good or better dinner companions. A couple of years ago we were in a Pied Piper group, and one of the guys at our table was totally off-putting in his lack of manners and the offensive political comments he would make. Pretty much drove people to specialty dining.
Totally agree.
We have had some great tables with "mixed couples". Once we had a table for two and the table next was also for two which happened to be two gay guys. Very compatible and had a great time.
Not every gay person is a good companion. Most are however.

The excursions can vary. Our Cunard trip went to the station in Myrdal, but there was no time to tour the area. A few days later friends who were on a Holland America ship were able to book an excursion only to the hotel. They paid about US$50 more than we did, but they had a waffle at the hotel.
Booking direct with the railway makes it possible to take a stopover at Myrdal. Advance bookings were not available to individuals, only to groups, hence the mad dash to the station. Perhaps this policy has changed since 2013.
Appears can book for two or more people.
Has anyone done the Skagway train in Alaska? How does this compare to the Flamm train?
Thanks.

Just received notice that Geiranger will be replaced by Olden.
Is this a significant change? First cruise in the area for us so don't know if we're missing or gaining

I see now that the QM2 is doing some crossings at 7&8 days(which some include stops in S'hampton & Germany). Having done crossings in the past on QE2(and other classic OCEAN LINERS) in 5 days and found it to be the perfect amount of time onboard when there are no ports. Certainly the 7 & 8 day sailings are too long even with all there is to do onboard & the size of the ship.
The 5 day crossing allowed us to enjoy weekends in Paris & London all in a weeks time and we were never bored while onboard any of those ships. On longer holidays after a few weeks in Europe a westbound crossing provided a good rest before reentering the real world. I only regret never being able to sail to Italy on the old liners...nobody did it like the ITALIANS!!!
Of course Cunard is now Carnival and life changes & the longer crossing cuts fuel costs & also provides longer periods of time for the passenger to spend $$$ onboard.
Anyone else like the idea of a 5 day crossing - and even bring back the ship to LaHarve once in a while?????
I totally agree. Loved the 5 day crossing on the QE2.

I've been told that lower decks at midship have less motion. I try to book midship but usually use higher decks for the view.

Interested in opinions on the therapy pool in the QE spa. The Thallasotherapy pool on the old QE2 was wonderful. QM was nice but not as good. This is our first time on QE.

Please don't wait any longer for a call back. Call again and if you don't receive an adequate response ask to speak with someone higher up.
Claim for out of pocket expenses.

I always do online check-in and never have a problem arriving much less than 2 hours at the airport. I fly quite a lot.
