@hcat thanks! The mugs were $20. DH thought they were more expensive than the ones we usually purchase, but I like a travel mug for coffee in the mornings to keep it hot longer. We purchase them on most sailings, sometimes they get abandoned if there’s little space left in the luggage, but I’ll be keeping these. Better quality than the plastic exterior insulated mugs we normally get from Royal

Apparently there was an oil spill on the oil boat filling Royal Princess today in Vancouver.   We were told Princess is responsible for the clean up since they were purchasing the oil.  We were supposed to leave Vancouver at 3:30...it’s now almost 5:00 and we’re still alongside Canada Place 🇨🇦.   Now we’re hearing we maybe here awhile as the tides coming in and the ship will not clear Lions Gate Bridge until the tide goes back out.  We’re waiting on an update now.   Supposed to arrive in LA on Tuesday morning at 8:30....Doubt that will happen.  The 12-day to Alaska might be delayed?   Will update when we hear....

  3. We recently got back from Riviera (Venice to Rome). We have cruised extensively, but this was our first Oceania cruise. We chose the cruise for the itinerary, which was unique, and worth the high price paid. That said, Riviera itself is in need of

refurbishment. Our stateroom was a good size, but maintenance had to fix several

items immediately- two drawers didn’t work and the closet door was not sliding. There was a very loud air conditioning related knocking in the ceiling, extending from the hallway that kept us and our neighbors up at night. This eventually was

adjusted to a not as loud knocking...

The service, in general, was excellent on board. The food was very good in the

Specialty restaurants, but average in the MDR. Terrace Cafe and Waves were better

Venues compared to other lines similar venues. Really very little entertainment. The ship almost always seems deserted, except at meal times. We are in our late 60’s and early 70’s and felt like we were in the younger crowd. I would guess we would not try Oceania again unless there was another unique itinerary.

  4. We’ve had no problems getting luggage to the stateroom.

I often wear nice sandals into GDR. No issues. They don’t want flip flops.

I have worn Capri pants or docker slacks I wore traveling into the GDR. No issues. Put on a collared shirt, blouse or sweater and you are fine.

We prefer the dinner GDR or specialty restaurant experience over the Terrace grill. We enjoy the Terrace for lunch, especially on embarkation day.

My husband got turned away last night for wearing sandals. Note, I was wearing the exact style of sandals and was not asked to change. Double standards?

  5. Not me personally, no! Nor have I seen bathrobes, although I've read reports of people wearing them to the Executive and Concierge Lounges on the "L" ships.

You mean it wouldn’t be a good idea to get my early morning coffee from the concierge lounge wearing my

robe? I will be staying just down the hall....

  6. I find that the Rick Steves city guides have some great self-guided tours mapped out. Very detailed. They also have variations depending on how many days you have available.

    Enjoy your trip!

We do a few prearranged tours on each cruise, but not usually through a cruise line. The rest of the time, we do some research, and go into town on our own. Rick Steves is a good resource. Oceania has free shuttles to most towns, if they are not easy walking distance from where the ships dock.

  7. Glad to hear this! I'll also be on the Insignia for 6 months and want to take my electric toothbrush, but was hoping to keep it in the bathroom, not the bedroom. I've never understood why the bathroom outlet says "electric razors only" on many ships....guess I figured that somehow I'd blow a fuse or something by plugging anything else in it. Anyone know why they post this?

So jealous that you will be spending 6 months on board. The most time we have been able to spend on a cruise was 1 month. New Jersey to Dubai.

  8. We got our blue book about 60 days out. We appreciated the beautiful colorful hard copy we didn’t have to print ourselves. Yes, the only real documents in it were our luggage tags but all the shore tours are detailed in one place, etc. as well as information about pre and post tours . It is something we can show to family and friends , etc.

  9. In 2012 we stayed at the Hotel Colon. It is situated opposite the Gothic Cathedral with good reasonably priced Spanish restaurants(ie local Spanish were eating there) in the Cathedral Square It had very helpful staff, clean comfortable rooms and was close to a Hop on Hop off bus stop. I would stay there again. We didn't have any meals there preferring the nearby cafes.

Hotel Colon is our choice too. I understand that it has recently been renovated-even better!

  10. If you go to the Captains Circle Party you can ask for a Chairman of the Board when they offer you the rum punch or cheap ship champagne. It might take 5 minutes, but they will bring it. Worth the wait.

Thanks for the valuable information! $9.50 x 2 = 19.00 (Plus, no tip).
