  1. Hi Turquoise,

Unfortunately all cruise are fully booked and yes these ocean liners are indeed at the very cutting edge of Naval Architecture :D

The more experienced eye will note the bow and stern are based on the Queen Mary 2

Duke of Edinburgh being a modified Queen Mary class.

Queen Catherine is based on the Vista class with a stern similar to the Queen Mary class and the front of that ship from the bridge frrd is also based on that class ship which will see the vessel cutting through the sea as opposed to slamming into it. :) A very comfortable, stable ride.

The Duke of Edinburgh has a number of differing types of single berth accommodation located in the dummy funnels all of which offer excellent panoramic views and are proving to be very popular. ;)

    Meanwhile getting back on topic

All being well RMS Queen Mary 2 will depart Southampton Ocean Cruise Terminal at 1900hrs tonight :)

Your fleet is very impressive. I would like to be on the wait list,if it ever opens.

Ahh , Thank you!The QM2 is back is Southampton, where she belongs.

Now back to business and the doing the transatlantic run..Very late in the season, but I will look on the bright side.:D

  2. I am slightly confused by your post but having said that I am always in a state of confusion. The Queen Mary 2 per year does more trans Atlantic trips than her predecessor IF, if we pretend her predecessor was the QE2. The Queen Mary might not be as fast as the QE2 but on just about everything else ism she a better ship? She is without any shadow of a doubt a better sea going vessel, a more stable vessel and might I suggest she is more luixurious?

The only better looking ships in my opinion are those belonging to my fleet but sadly trips on those two vessels are by invitation only :p

I like your ships. Do you accept bookings on line? One question:are the stable?

  3. It is a shame, but Cunard is now part of the NWO brigade. On the surface, the company must do what it can in these endlessly harsh economic times . However, the British tradition of Cunard had to be very gradually dilluted. Hence, QM2 is now a tourist cruise ship.

Yes , it is true and sad of what you say. I had expectations that the QM2 would take over from where the QE2 left You are so correct to say QM2 is now a tourist cruise ship.

I sailed march 30 from NY to Southampton,on the Queen Elizabeth. it was 8 days and the trip was excellent. The Queen Elizabeth did very well in moderate

seas. But the Queen Elizabeth does a limited sailings on the transatlantic run

  4. It's March 21. Where is the QM2? Not in New York

Or Southampton. This is the beginning

    Of the Transatlantic crossing season.

This is a disappointment and I will have to fly

Across the pond for Easter .

The QM2 was far off from New York,So I sailed on the Queen Elizabeth from

NY transatlantic and had easter sunday on the Queen Elizabeth.;) March 31,2013 Easter at sea

  5. Just wondering why you only hang out on the cunard boards when it seems you really don't like them all that much.

So, according to your definition, a ship can only be called an ocean liner when it travels Southampton - New York? There are a few more oceans than just the Atlantic and a few more countries than just USA and UK.

Maybe next time they'll consult you when they prepare their schedules.

I am doing what one should do on cruise critic

    Be a critic!!! About Cunard

The QM2 is not. Blue Water Liner.

    It belongs on the transatlantic

As prior QE2. It's spring and there is a huge market

    Who want to sail transatlantic

There is no legacy for QM2 for sailing as a glorified

    Cabin Crusier around Australia

  6. Qm2 is in Australia, where she was this time last year. When I was lucky enough to be on her. And I'll be on the QM2 this time next year, when she is also in Australia. This is the time that QM2 has been doing world cruises.

Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego ?? Where in the world is the QM2?

Australia now and Australia next year ,same place ,same time.

As for me I will be booking my flight to London, next year, same place, same time of year.

Bye QM2 ocean liner, Hello QM2 Cruise Ship

  7. It's March 21. Where is the QM2? Not in New York

Or Southampton. This is the beginning

    Of the Transatlantic crossing season.

This is a disappointment and I will have to fly

Across the pond for Easter .

  8. If history is any predictor, Mr. Shanks will not be at Cunard in another year or so. Someone else will be making their own changes on Cunard.

True Cunard has 3 ships , a small fleet compared

With NAL, HAL, Carnival , Princess

A new Ocean Liner for Cunard may be in the future?

  9. I am on that sailing, and not only have I crossed the Atlantic on Vista ships but also the Pacific Princess which is a small ship. You're right, it's not for sissies.

Well Bon Voyage!! I'm talking about the Sea sickness factor. Pitching and rolling, rolling and pitching. It must be felt more on those cruise ships?

    Bon Voyage:)

  10. WOW, with all said ,at the moment, about True Ocean Liners and how they are capable to sail transatlantic. The Queen Elizabeth(Vista ship) will be doing

a TransAtlantic on March 30,2012. After this post, would any would want to sail on the QE to Southampton?

  11. Stabilizers are important for smoother ride in rough weather. The Queen mary,in the 1930s,40s (don't know if the ship had them installed later?)

Did not . There fore the heavy rolling. The Ocean liners transAtlantic, use the stabilizers during the day for a smooth ride, but the would not used at night to maker up speed. Ships as United States,Constitution,France, etc

The QM2 have more advanced stabilizers. Of course stabilizers help to reduce roll, but have no affect on bow or forward movement.

  12. No I am not a spokesperson for Cunard. I'm just repeating what the designer of QM2 said during a talk about her on QE2. It was shortly before or while she was being built, and part of the discussion of design was about the goals of the design--what was the intended use of the ship.

Determining needs and goals is the first part of any good design process.

The audience had no trouble comprehending or accepting the idea of a ship designed to have two purposes--crossing and cruising.

The Audience? LOL. That says it all?

    I guess they love gossip

    Cheers.

  13. I am concentrating. That's what alerted me to your contradictions.

First you said Mary was a cruise ship.

Then you said it was an ocean liner.

Which is it turquoise, a cruise ship or an ocean liner? Or did you start this thread because you want our help in figuring it out? :)

LoL. Read my lips: Qm2 was made as an Ocean liner

But she lost that role and became a cruise ship.

That's good for you, since the QM2 can cruise around Australia

    Hope you feel better!

    Cheers

  14. In genetics, a hybrid is a cross between two different species. The goal of hybridization is to get the best of both species in one organism.

In the case of QM2, she has the speed and hull structure to fare well in potentially rough seas of the north Atlantic. That's the liner part. As Ginny has pointed out, the ship has balconies, which are typical of cruise ships. QM2 also has lots of open deck space and pools up top, which are considered necessities for a cruise ship. On the two TAs I've done on QM2, it was always too windy to make much use of these open areas. But they were very well used on her cruises.

    Does that help. Your question?

Are you a spokesman for Cunard/Cunard?

Are you making an official statement about

The Qm2.? And how Carnival planed the making of The QM2

And the intended use of this Ocean Liner?

    Thanks

  15. (NB: I have quoted the entire post, but the bold is mine)

How did they "make it into a cruise ship"? They have not altered her. The France was built to be an ocean liner. when NCL bought her, they added decks and another pool and made other changes so that she'd be more suited for cruises. That's making an ocean liner into a cruise ship.

Yes, QM2 was built to be a good/sturdy/stable (choose your own adjective) ship for the transatlantic route. But from her first season, she has had a mix of crossings and cruises. It was always Cunard's intention to use her as a sort of hybrid.

Cunard is using QM2 in the way that makes the most money for them. Considering the discounts on last year's crossings, I don't think the demand is there for more crossings.

So the QM2 is a Hybrid. Can you explain. What that means?

    Thanks

  16. Thank you. I couldn't find an 'Introduce yourself' section but i'm new here and relatively new to cruising, having always wanted to do one being a Titanic/Passenger liner nerd. I sailed with my Fiance on the Navigator of the Seas last June and we both loved it and as she is American, her parents have paid for us to sail back on the QM2 instead of flying so we can have a proper honeymoon!

Planning on doing another Med cruise before the end of the year if funds allow too .

Hi, Welcome to this site. It's all about Ships. I never sailed on the Navigator of the Seas,.I'm happy you enjoyed your Honeymoon
  17. Oh okay. But that's not what you said back in post number 31 on this thread.

    You said:

So which is it? A cruise ship or an ocean liner?

Please follow my post and read it!! You don't seem to comprehend my post.

Again.. Cunard or Carnival has taken The QM2 which was built as an Ocean Liner and made it into a cruise ship. ::( Which means the QM2 is not doing what it should: Be a TransAtlantic Liner.:)

  18. Why didn't someone explain that to me before. It's all very clear now.

Yes you quoted only a portion of what I wrote , so u distorted my quote to fit

ur needs...SEA TIGER IS:( GUITY OF DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER:(

The only thing clear is UR SARCASM AND DEVIATION FROM THE POST:rolleyes:
