  1. It happened twice last year. In June for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and then again on 13th July (I was on the QV that day). The reason for this second coming together was so that photographs of all 3 ships leaving Southampton could be taken in daylight. (In June they left in the dark). There was a helicopter taking photos for an hour. I bought a 2014 calendar on board the QM2 a couple of weeks ago with these photos on it.

The May 2014 get together is to celebrate QM2's 10th anniversary.

Good that you bought the calendar .I sailed in on the QM2 from

NY for the Jubilee. The ships were docked in the early am on Southampton

And we passed & saluted the Qm & Qv . It was amazing .

The crew , passengers on all shops ,all wide awake

    Waving and cheering. Music blasting

The whole of Southampton was awaken

  2. I am not on board the QM2 now, but it so easy to see " virtual computer"where, the weather conditions, the wave height, the milage from Brooklyn and the distance to Southampton .

great,great... but "virtual Computerization " can't replace a Martini in the Commodore .

  3. In a word; depends... (:D).

I've been on short cruises where there was no formal night listed... but passengers decided independently that they were going to have a formal night without Cunard's permission! So, on one cruise, around 10% of the passengers were dressed "black tie" on a semi-formal night. And very fine they looked too, well done them I say (and wish I'd taken my formal wear as well).

On the other hand, someone wearing formal wear to lunch... or wearing "white tie" or "court dress" to dinner would be considered, by many, as "over-dressed" these days. Whereas "white tie" on men was almost universal in 1st class for dinner on board the great liners before WWII, these days, for dinner on land, it is very rarely seen, other than State Dinners, in the UK.

So, while I don't think you can be over-dressed for dinner, there are limits if one doesn't want to stand out. Or look foolish.

Surely the whole point of "black tie" is NOT to stand out...

A gentleman should allow the lady on his arm, in her stunning gown, to gather the attention, not divert eyes to his over-colourful bow tie/dinner jacket/cummerbund/waistcoat etc.

To be correctly attired for every occasion is my aim... :)

it appears to me that this Dress Code thing has become all HYPE! : to the point that everyone here on this post,(this is not the real world)made to feel the need to consume it.

Take your formal dresses, your diamonds, your tux, and ENJOY IT ,as has been done since before and after TITANIC

Gute Reise! Safe home to you Turquoise, and your fellow passengers sailing back to New York. Man, you were in the right place at the right time: the heat wave in NYC (and most of the US) was really nasty.

What a great time to be at sea - hope you all enjoyed your voyage.

    Cheers from a Sweltering

    Salacia

Thank you Salacia, I do appreciate your thoughtfulness.:)

I hope you fared well in the heat wave.

My time clock is off and I do enjoy gaining an hour traveling to NY.

I am able to use my I phone to log on to the internet at any hour in my stateroom. Since I am a Diamond member, I am able to get get extra time.

    Cheers and all the best

    T

  5. I can't imagine it. Visions of "lifeBoat"
With all due respect to my fellow passengers on Cunard ,or any ship; I made a foolish, untrue statement. I have sailed with Germans, and I have spent time in Hamburg,Germany with my dear close friends. Sometimes

I get caught up in the internet frezzy.

As far as the movie Lifeboat: Is a vintage Hollywood movie, nothing more.

Happy sailing to everyone!! Ich wunsche eine gute Reise.:)

  6. No it isn't, they do 2 night trips to and from Hamburg and sometimes Cherbourg.

Interesting but disappointed:( I didn't think the Queen Mary 2 did the party cruises .

Carnival,NCL do a day at sea from NY,which is about 2 days. once or twice a year. I haven't done them nor will i do them

  7. as I have written , the "push " is working by Cunard to sail 1st class ,Queen and 2nd Princess class, not 3rd. class(Britannia).

The class system was not popular as cruising went . The France had the largest and the best Tourist Class and the smallest First Class .

The class system on Cunard is not a class system of the past. It is a dinning

    experience.

The Queen Elizabeth has the largest ,best situated Queen & Princess grill.

I really believe that Britannia is the dinning experience I prefer

  8. Blue Ribbon has written an informative and interesting log of the July 6, crossing:)

it's been an unusually calm crossing , a true pond.

The first class Queen G and 2 class Princess G seem to have been booked fully. I noticed on the July 4 Cruise ,every balcony on the Queens G suites above Deck

8 aft was full and being used.

The Hot tubs on deck 8 full, and pool standing room only.

  9. The QM2 is sailing in exceptional calm

    North Atlantic . Very nice

I notice there seems to be a "push"

By QM2 to book the "grills"

It is a very subtle sale but its persistent

I like Britannia , but I don't like that I have to rationalize this fact to

    Crew members .

My observation , any one have experienced this?:D

I am curious if any passenger who has been sailing with Cunard In 2013

    been "PUSHED" about moving up to 2nd class:Princess G or 1st class:Queens G?

  10. I 'sea' that you are plodding along at a very nice 19knts and just to cheer you up the weather in the Western Approaches of the Atlantic is beautiful clear blue skies, a calm sea and a nice cool breeze to ensure we get sunburnt without realising it ;) The weather is purrfect

Great News. !!!and I can do with a tan , something we don't due often on the North Atlantic :)

  11. The QM2 is sailing in exceptional calm

  12. it looks like it will be exceptional calm seas all across the the TransAtlantic

    crossing.

There is a tropical storm brewing in the Caribbean:eek: ,and will not affect this crossing.

The name is tropical Storm Chantal . We will be watching its path

  13. Sailing TransAtlantic is wonderful. Foggy at times. Much more formal than the

4th of July cruise.Britannia dinning is 5 star. There is a classical group that plays music on the upper level of Britannia ,which makes the dinning experience so much more in the Tradition.

    :):):)

  14. As I am typing this she is in the process of entering New York

yes ,that was very early NY time. At 4 am the QM2 passed under the Verrazzano Bridge,an hour earlier due to tide.
