  1. And just to ease your mind further, the event wasn't terrorist or drug related. Arson and an insurance scam by new operator who was losing money. Hundreds of Mexicans take those ferries daily to work, either on Cozumel or the mainland.

Hi - the only reputable article I find is the following:

    https://www.businessinsider.com/mexico-playa-del-carmen-security-alert-us-embassy-ferry-bombing-2018-3

Is there new info about an insurance scam? I cannot find that. Regardless, innocent tourists were injured so not sure it is worth the risk as Playa del Carmen is still restricted for US govt employees. The State dept has warnings. When you go on a ship excursion do they use a private ferry that is different?

  2. Heads up for those going on a cruise this week in the Caribbean. TS Issac looks to become Hurricane Issac and is moving west coming across the Lesser Antilles later this week. Should make for some interesting weather for those who will be near Barbados, Martinique, Antigua, the BVI and even P.R. Definitely pay attention to models and changes as it seems to change rapidly. I will be cruising in this exact area at the beginning of November. This is always the risk we take cruising during Hurricane season. So the ships may reverse some itineraries or substitute a port or two to keep guests comfortable. It is an adventure! We are far out and anything can change but it shd be watched as it may also affect some US homeports next weekend (ie, Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, etc.) Just too early to know but makes interesting reading at

The storm no longer has a sheared appearance, andinstead microwave images reveal a well-defined curved band thatwraps a little more than halfway around the center. Despite thechange in the storm's structure, the Dvorak classifications areunchanged at 3.0/45 kt. Based on that data, the initial intensityis held at 45 kt for this advisory. Now that the shear has lessened, Isaac should steadily strengthenduring the next few days as the storm remains over warm waters andin a low wind shear environment. Beyond a few days, however, theSHIPS model shows a notable increase in shear, in part due to theoutflow from Florence, which should end the strengthening trend andinduce some weakening. There was no significant change in theintensity guidance this cycle, so the official forecast is largelyan update of the previous one. This prediction lies fairlyclose to the IVCN and HCCA models.Isaac remains on the forecast track and the initial motion is thesame as before, 270/7. A strengthening subtropical ridge to thenorth of the system should cause Isaac to move westward at anincreasing forward speed during the next several days. Althoughthere is some spread in the models, the usually more reliable GFSand ECMWF models have been consistent in showing a due westwardmotion through the forecast period. The NHC track forecast leanstoward those models, and it is fairly similar to the previousprediction. Based on the current forecast, Isaac will be near theLesser Antilles in 4 to 5 days and interests there should monitorthe progress of this system.FORECAST POSITIONS AND MAX WINDSINIT 09/0900Z 14.5N 38.1W 45 KT 50 MPH 12H 09/1800Z 14.6N 39.6W 55 KT 65 MPH 24H 10/0600Z 14.7N 41.9W 60 KT 70 MPH 36H 10/1800Z 14.7N 44.6W 70 KT 80 MPH 48H 11/0600Z 14.7N 47.5W 80 KT 90 MPH 72H 12/0600Z 14.7N 53.1W 85 KT 100 MPH 96H 13/0600Z 14.9N 58.9W 80 KT 90 MPH120H 14/0600Z 15.3N 64.5W 70 KT 80 MPH$$Forecaster Cangialosi

I like to save money as well and wd hate to pay the $200 change fee. But you are in a unique situation and can go early. I believe it is worth it to go ahead and pay the $200 and try to go Monday or Tuesday. You will have a relaxing time in South Florida and not have the stress of worrying. $200 is a small price to pay for piece of mind! Trust me you will be happy you did! This is a great time of the year in South Florida....kids ae back in school and beaches are less crowded.

  4. Hello fellow cruisers! When making plans in Barbados, it is best to go to beaches north of the port in the northwest area. Avoid the South as they have had raw sewage issues for several years now. From all my research today (several hours worth) it appears that the beach where Harbor Lights & the Boatyard are have not been closed or affected whereas Rockly & Accra & Crane have. I am attaching the link that reviews the last 9 months. It has been a big issue for the island, affecting residents & tourists. If you scroll to the very bottom of the link it has current reports. Open up a detailed map of Barbados and you can see the areas they are talking about.

  5. Can some of our experts help me out. I believe there are several websites that help you see if there is a large group on a specific sailing. For example I am an attorney and I know we sometimes have classes on a cruise ship and there may be 500 on a ship. For many people 500 attorneys is a fate worse than death!~ I ask this because I was on a cruise and there was a large group before and they monopolized the pool with games, the bars, etc. It was not fun. I do want to try and avoid it in the future if possible by doing my research and am hoping you all can tell me where to look. Not to mention the fact do not want to accidentally land on one of the nude cruises! Thank you in advance!

  6. I fly into and out of Fort Lauderdale every month as we have a vacation home there. They have just opened up new additions to the terminals. I find the different restaurants to be good with reasonable prices. Not typical airport food. I have only eaten in terminal 3 and terminal 4. Fort lauderdale any day over Miami. FLL is for the most part new & clean and much friendlier. MIA is my least favorite airport in the US. There are always staff cleaning it and it makes is more pleasant. Lots of very nice shops as well.

  7. Board the Summit as early as 10:30am. U cannot access your cabin until exactly at 1PM. Eat lunch early, leave ur bags in the cabin & take a taxi into town at 2PM and wander around for three hours bag free. Leave at 5PM as it gets dark. I do this every year!

  8. I’m at the airport waiting for our flight.

The cruise port is open. The high gangways were seriously damaged so we disembarked at pier level on deck 1. It was a short walk to the luggage/immigration building. Inside there was a 30 minute wait for immigration/customs. That building has no A/C currently. There are ceiling fans but it’s quite oppressive heat and humidity.

The cruise itself was wonderful as always.

Thank you for your post! Am hoping you can give us additional advice. If we only have carry on bags, do you think we would get thru the hot building faster if we get off early and do self debark. Or should we get off last with our carry ons? We do not fly out till 10pm so we had planned to stay on as late as possible (which is about 9-9:30am.) My biggest concern is standing in extreme heat. Am definitely going to stick a cold bottle of water down my shirt!

  9. I stayed in one of them on 7 on Constellation (sister ship). It was much bigger than a regular inside. This used to be a library area that was converted. However, the ceiling is lower in these than in a regular cabin. Do not get if one is claustrophobic. I cd not sleep the first night but then it was OK. I wd def do it again as I had a whole sitting area!

  10. Nice job and congrats on getting the clown$ to rebook you with no penalty. I asked for this option 3 weeks ago and they would not do without penalty. Called the clown$ again today (1.5 hour wait to get thru on 800#...mmm wonder why?) and low and behold got the same offer to rebook onto any celebrity cruise within 6 months with NO PENALTY!...Celebrity clown$ must be waking up and getting the message finally and or getting tired of the social media firestorm. So now that they have shifted gears I will move on from this #$%^ mess and book something that has a chance of going smoothly.

This shift in being willing to allow canceling on the summit with NO PENALTY this late in the game tells me they are seriously thinking about canceling these sailings out of PR anyway and are looking to save what few customers they have left! Good luck and Bon Voyage in PR to all of the Celebrity kool aid drinkers!

Oh My Gosh. Boy are we lucky that you have canceled your reservation because all of us would like to ban you from our cruise! Dude, your glass isn't just half empty......can you be anymore negative and caustic? I respect everyone's opinion and we are 61, 71 and 88. We are not moving to PR, we are just sailing out of there. And yes we have had to make changes to things as well as flights. Hope you are able to develop perspective on what really matters in life. I also hope that when you go to these islands eventually, you can ignore the imperfections left from Mother Nature. All of us including our home lands have flaws, but I remain open to new adventures and accepting less than perfection. And I look forward to carrying my PR taxi driver $100 worth of D batteries and bug repellent wipes that he can share with his friends on 11/11/17.

  11. Flight arrived into San Juan with no issue, but it was very crowded. Shops and restaurants were open. I only have carry on bag, but others mentioned they had to wait a while for their bags to be available. The RCCL transfers were crazy only because everyone was using them so I would recommend taking a taxi it was less than 15 minutes to get to the pier. Once at the pier check in was quick and easy. Elevators on the ship were very busy so I just carried my things up 5 decks to my cabin on 10.

Thank you for this info! Definitely plan on grabbing a taxi! And we are like you and travel light! We will each have a wheeled carry on bag with a tote so we do not have to wait for luggage! After all - we really just need bathing suits for the daytime!

  12. Yes, Marriott is open now for the day

On the Marriott Stellaris FaceBook they say they are not taking reservations so it sounds like maybe just 1st Responders there. Pls let us know that everything is OK with your day pass. I hope so! And many thanks for your review. We are on Celebrity Summit in 11/11/17 and cannot wait to hear how everything goes! And want to hear all about a single cabin as I did not know they exist on RC! Bon Voyage!

  13. I just read how many of the Fascination cruises are cancelled thru Feb so the ship can house FEMA workers. Which I completely understand, but feel sorry for all of the people whose vacation is cancelled. So I want to point out that starting 10/28/17, the Celebrity Summit sails from Puerto Rico on a 7 day voyage leaving every Saturday. It is a fantastic ship (going on my third voyage with the Summit this November) and I am sure that many Carnival fans (I sail both lines) would enjoy. So before you cancel you airfare, check with celebrity!
