  1. I remember reading that X would sometimes make a special dinner if someone requested.

Is that still the case in MDR?

Also, do they do ‘special orders’ in Normandie if Maitre D is given enough notice?

I’m not tlaking diet restrictions but rather…. just requests for dishes such as entrees not on menu, but you want to try.

  2. I’ve been on 2 NCL’s and have written rather positive reviews.

And I’ll get flamed but I’ll say this anyways. One reason I like X more is the crowd. Yes, sadly I have no choice but to leave out of NJ, so the typical NJ/NYC element will be there, i.e….more pushers, shovers, and rude people. (not all, but easily more noticeable than leaving out of Fla)

If you aren’t into partying, and perhaps you like decorum, and don’t want too much of a baggy pants-backwards hat element on your vacation, then Celebrity is the choice.

  3. Thanks for responses everyone.

Gracie, you’ve not changes. My feeling is that quality of food and service has gone down, because consumers are willing to accept it. Many businesses have figured out that it’s all about price to many consumers, and so they cut cut cut so that the prices are cheaper.

It’s too bad. How hard is it to have a nice restaurant, charge people EXTRA, and prepare food well, with very good service.

I’m basically trying to figure out: IS Normandie Food better than MDR?

  4. We’ve been on 3 X Cruises, all in Penthouses. Never got an invite to Captain’s Club.

I suspect it’s because we have 2 kids. But we either have my Mom, OR a nanny traveling with us so kids are with them at night. I guess no way the Captain’s social club would know that.

Whatever. If I were Captain I’d want a harem instead of having dinner with strangers each night.

    I bet he would too.

  5. Hello,

Was hoping to get feedback from folks who ate at Summit’s Normandie anytime soon.

We ate there once, and was not impressed at all…..but that was also 3 years ago so stuff changes.

Any recent details on Normandie I’d love to read. Thanks

  6. Obviously, different strokes for different folks.

But for me, what I’d be willing to pay more for:

1.)Less passengers, OR more staff and other things that would keep lines shorter and crowds less.

This could be or boarding, leaving, buffet stations, buffet tables, deck space, BBQ station, whatever. Of course, I love all of you that I share the human race with but on vacation, the less of us the better imo :)

2.)Better Quality of Food. Be it fruits/veggies, meat quality, or preparation or even being served at proper temp... I’d would happily pay for better food,

3.)Anything that reduces any scintilla of ‘cattle’ factor.

  7. If they are offering a sex change for free, I’m going to have them turn me into a woman on my next cruise.

    I have lesbian tendencies.

And even without that, if I got turned into a woman I’d just stay home every day and night, do all sorts of stuff to myself and I’d never have to leave the house.

DW would lose any bit of leverage over me too.

    Sign me up!

  8. Why not allow it?

So many grown ups can’t put on a tie 1 night on a 7 night cruise, then everyone starts whining “oh now we’re becoming carnival”….well, it happens in dribs and drabs.

So if Jimmy wants to wear a wife-beater to the dining room, so be it. If “i don’t wanna be forced to wear a tie on vacation” is ok, well then “i don’t wanna be forced to wear a nice shirt on my vacation” is ok too.

The Wife beaters will go well with the loud music.

Maybe a few belly flop or hairy legs contests too.

Enjoy…..but at least you may not have to wear a suit and tie for 1 night.

  9. It’s been years for me too, but it seems many of the MDR menu items are similar. IF the quality is like I remember, here’s a few I love:

*French Onion soup. As long as cheese isn’t burnt, it’s awesome.

*NY Strip Steak with cafe du paris butter. (Hate to admit I like something remotely french but whatever)

*Shrimp Cocktail appetizer was always great.

*Crust French bread from the bread basket. (By the 3rd night, the waiters realize….no multi-grain stuff here)

*Short Rib Lasagna: I LOVE that one.

    Great topic.

  10. If there aren’t $5 blackjack tables, then I won’t play at all. Usually I like to start at 5..and then eventually I get to 10’s.

If this is true DW will be pleased. No gambling for me, more time with her just hanging out.

Less spending money on the ship. Good strategy x :)

  11. We’ve cruise I think 45 nights thus far and have never, ever done the group dining thing.

    Just me and DW.

The thought of just sitting with strangers is terrifying to me but then again, I’m rather reserved and introverted. Hate the idea of polite small talk, but on the other hand when I meet someone I like, then can’t shut me up.

Going on a 7 nighter in May….yep, table for 2 will be the goal :)

  12. Well said.

Sent from my Samsung Note 2 on the T-Mobile 4G LTE Network

Where have you people been? Everyone is knocking the potential problems of class-disctinct-cruising because those in the bottom inside cabins may get cold soup.

Just remember that if you are down there, you’ll enjoy wild parties, good music, and Kate Winslet will take off all her clothes for you and ask you to paint a portrait of her after which, well, she’ll extend the date and you both can fog up the windows together somewhere.

I dunno. Cold soup is appealing.
