  1. Of the 3 pictures that were posted, the top one looks very tasty, but the other 2 look dry. I've only had the Pizza Pirate, not the Pizza Del Capitano. And I'll agree with another poster and say if pizza is important to you, unless they change things, avoid Royal Caribbean. Woof!

  2. You only have until midnight for this, and last I looked there were only about 7 cabins left. Celebrity Silhouette, Port Everglades, Jan. 8-12, 2017. (Sunday-Thursday.). Concierge class cabin at same price as balcony, would be $279 x 2 people if 2 in a room, but $469 for a solo. Total with taxes & prepaid tips, $605. Concierge is also a balcony room, but with more perks and amenities like fresh flowers, fresh fruit, and a bottle of bubbly in the cabin. Evening hors d'oeuvres also. Priority boarding and debarking. The only port is Cozumel, and 2 sea days. Don't wait, expires at midnight tonight! I grabbed it.

  3. I've never gone a day or more early to any port, even when I lived in New York. I took early flights and crossed my fingers that no problems cropped up. I live in SW Florida now, and it's a little over 2 hours drive to Tampa, Miami or Fort Lauderdale. So I always go to those ports on cruise day, usually driving myself. Earlier this year I cruised out of Port Canaveral, and that was a long drive so I took a shuttle service. Getting there was fine, but when I returned, the shuttle service stranded me and 2 other passengers. So I wound up having to rent a car and driving myself home anyway. In late May I'll be taking my first Alaska cruise out of Seward. For that, I will fly in 2 days early!

  4. On my very first cruise, I was at a table for 10. On each successive night, more and more people were no-shows. Finally on one night, I was sitting alone. Some kind people at a nearby table took pity on me, and invited me to join them. Since then, I always choose anytime dining.

  5. When I was on Norwegian Spirit in April, it stated in the disembarkation instructions that we must vacate our cabins by 8:00 am. On that morning, I always like to go to the MDR for a leisurely breakfast before leaving. I'm usually off the ship by 9:15, and on the street by 9:45. That should be enough time for anyone to relax and enjoy the ship a bit before leaving. I agree, don't be that person who they have to page or come looking for.

  6. Not sure why you're answering with Carnival policy since this is NCL board and that is NOT NCL policy. NCL does not upgrade until AFTER cruise is completed.

Sorry. On my phone the heading just says "Forums", no particular cruise line mentioned. I merely posted what I did for information/comparison purposes. Mobile platforms don't always show the same information that desktops or even other types of devices do.

  7. Carnival does credit you with status change during a cruise, for the whole cruise during which you earn the status change. For instance, I achieved Gold status in the middle of a cruise, but when I checked in I was given a gold card and got the other (small) benefits at the beginning.

  8. As a solo traveler, even the 100% single supplement is unfair to me. I may take up the space of two people in a cabin, but I don't eat the food of 2 people or use the resources of 2 people. My bar tab is probably close to two people's! I also make purchases in the gift shop. So they are not losing any money on me cruising solo. So I only cruise when I can find a bargain. Living in Florida helps.

  9. I also vote for Royal Princess. I've taken several Caribbean cruises, and with the exception of St. Thomas, have never visited those other ports. That is a wonderful itinerary, and the extra $1500 is icing on the cake!

  10. There is a Cozumel bar tour, not affiliated with the cruise lines, but it must be booked in advance. If this is the one you mean, then you would have paid a small deposit on line, with the balance to be paid when you joined the tour. You would have been given instructions on where to meet, and probably would need to get a cab there. I took this tour, it was fun!

  11. There is nothing wrong with staying off-site, especially if you are only staying one night. You are really just looking to sleep and shower there! Be aware that parking at WDW is about $20 if you aren't staying there. Also, hotels & motels in Kissimmee are much closer to WDW than those in Orlando. They are all competing with each other, so the prices are very reasonable.

  12. We did Celebrity Solstice to Alaska this year for our wedding anniversary - sail date was May 27 - so right at your time of year.

I packed Woolley hats, scarves, fleeces, gloves etc - needed them all - We took the catamaran excursion (which is amazing) up the Fjord on the morning of Juneau as it takes you right in close to the glacier whereas the ship can only go so far in. That for sure requires your woolleys!

The balcony isn't as cold as being "outside". But you will feel it more than we do - we are Scots and hardy to it. I am sure Norwegian do as Celebrity does and provides warm blankets for the balcony viewing?

For sure no sunbathing the entire trip. We did the zipwire in Skagway and that was the warmest day.

If you are "cold sensitive" - urm - wrong time of year its gonna be chilly!!

(and wet - bring your rain jacket).

Loved every single glorious moment and wouldn't have swapped it for the world! (aside from the zipwire - the story of which is in my review)

If you hunt down my review there are pics along the way - it was sunny - but brrrrrrrrr .... as we say in Scotland "nae taps aff!":D

Thanks for your reply! Of course I would have preferred July or August, but an amazing deal came up for this cruise (it may have been a mistake on the cruise line's part), and I couldn't pass it up so I booked it immediately. (As a solo traveler, I have to take advantage of bargains when I can get them!) I appreciate you letting me know that you did find it to be chilly. Coming from Florida I will have to pack any heavy clothing, and need to stay under 50 lbs. in my suitcase. It won't be easy!

  13. I'll be cruising Alaska for the first time next spring, May 26-June 2. I chose an oceanview cabin, because I thought it would be too cold to enjoy a balcony. I live in Florida, and I'm very sensitive to cold weather. I'm already stressing about what clothes, outerwear, etc. to bring. Am I wrong about being cold on a balcony at that time of year? Thank you!
