  1. I started cruising solo after I lost my husband three years ago. We loved cruising and the first one was sad and happy but it was the best thing I have ever done and now I love cruising solo also. Take the plunge and know that your late wife is with you and would want you to live your life to the fullest.

Thanks, I sat here yesterday on this sight so long I took the plunge. I book a studio on Epic for next Jan. I will break the news to the kids when I go see them this weekend. I know they will be happy but sad. (They can't go) LOL. Hope you have many wonderful cruises.

  2. I'm a retired teacher, 61. I've traveled independently all over the world since 1975. I took up cruising with an SO about seven years ago, but he died earlier this year. My first solo cruise will be to the Caribbean on Jan. 20. I like to travel alone, but I'm sure I will have mixed emotions on this trip.

I am still trying to take the plunge. I lost my wife last year and I love to cruise. Kids keep telling me I can do it but I think the first would be hard. Like learning to walk I guess. One day. I am looking at Epic Studio. Best of Luck.

  3. I'll back up the poster who suggested the NCL Epic. I'm 70 and not necessarily looking for a relationship, but I'm not averse to one. On each of my cruises in the singles studios, I have run into women who made it clear that they were looking for something and were interested in me. Since I was just there to enjoy a solo cruise, it sort of surprised me, but it worked out pretty well. In my opinion, because of the studio rooms, this is a great ship for meeting singles. If you get your father to try it (and if he really wants to meet women), tell him to be sure to attend the evening get-togethers, especially the one the first evening, so you can meet people. Even if he doesn't meet a "special" woman, he's sure to run into people he can enjoy spending the week with.

I am now a widower and love to cruise. I am not young and was worried about being old and cruising alone. I guess I can now try NCL and get a studio. Happy cruising dublell.

  4. I am with you. My daughter planned a cruise over a year and a half ago....I booked along with my wife. My wife was not willing to go on a cruise because she gets ill from very little motion. Well to make a long story short my dd found out that she was expecting and was told after trying four years this might never happen. We changed cruise dates and I can tell my GD was far more of a joy than leaving her at home and everyone thinking of themselves.

The crew loved her and it brought some to tears talking about their little ones they will not see for a year. 10 of us had a great time.. Our best cruise yet.

PS. My wife passed away 18 days later. GD will never remember all the attention she got nor will she remember her GM but we will have the pictures and we will go again. (WITH KIDS)

  5. Mine was on the Big Red Boat (anyone remember who owned that line? was it Premier?). The itinerary was Bahamas, and the date - this is where it gets sketchy for me ;-) I believe was around May of 1994

Loved that cruise - I've been hopelessly addicted since then! :-D

Yes Premier! That was my first, on the Big Red Boat II. We sailed from Canaveral and went to Abaco Islands in the Bahamas. They called it their on private Island. Went back years later and stayed on the island and took a rented boat over to the part where they had huts set up and a serving line for lunch buffet. It was all but gone. My kids took four pieces of tile from the serving line. Sad. It was partnered with Disney.
