  1. Try HAL. They still allow smoking on balconies (for now). An added bonus: MUCH better food in the MDR and buffet.

The food may be a bit better on HAL (Although lately everything downhill on those ships, i.e. early Port departure, bad entertainment, much less staff, etc. ). :(It is definitely NOT a 'lively ship' at all.... HAL is not what it's 'cracked up to be' and quite costly.

I'll stick w/ NCL, Princess or RCI ~ Happier people, whether they smoke or not....

    Safe sails.:)

  2. It would make more sense at this point to make the smoking on balconies ban effective, January 15, 2015, after all Holiday Travel....Also, would give people the opportunity to decide if they have other vacation options. There's always HAL, but I guess they will follow in short order....

The casinos will be worse.. No air filters in there at all. At least, you are OUTSIDE in the air on a balcony....JMHO

For a smart man, Mr. Sheehan hasn't thought this through enough and what impact it will eventually have....

  3. Hi

It says on the coupons EXpiration date 12/26/2014. it has my name on it and the second one has my husband's.. and says redeemable only on Breakaway.. I will try to call Casino at Seas and see what they say...Thanks...and if I can let someone else use.. them.. they are already paid for..::(

Hi, Slot Play and Casinos at Sea 2 different things. You might want to try Slot Play (where u got the coupons), as the other poster suggested, get to the correct section, ask the question about name change (maybe you can get a refund), etc.

If the names and ships can be changed, we'd be interested in buying them from you..Let me know, please.

    P. I'll watch here and give u my email if it can be done.

    thanks and good luck :-)

  4. Sorry but I believe you are incorrect..smoking is permitted port side of the Bali Hai Bar on the Gem and was banned from all outdoor areas of the pool deck last January we saw the HD and staff enforce this very strictly on a few cruises . There are certain smoking areas on one or two small areas outside on deck 6 or 7 and the Casino. Unlike Carnival there is no smoking in any of the clubs or bars. The Cigar Bar is very small and located next to Le Bistro on the Jewel Class ships. The Breakaway has a smoking room (enclosed glass panels) on the pool deck. I agree most smokers are very considerate, I know we are

I may have written incorrectly. If so, I apologize. Just going by the recent Jewel ship. Some tables toward the back Port side near the pool. That was it. They may enlarge the areas, now that Carnival is banning smoking on Balconies.....NCL will get more cruisers....Smoking hasn't been allowed in the bars or shows for many, many years now. I remember being able to smoke in the DR and shows...Times sure changed. I'm still OK...

What happens if NCL bans smoking? Oh well, the only one left is HAL...AND I don't think it's our style. TOOO laid back and mellow. I'm older, but still very much alive...Don't need to go to sleep at 10...LOL....

    thanks.:)

  5. If it is a trustworthy source, they would let them use it for research on school projects. They don't allow it in our school because it isn't trust worthy and answers can be changed!!

As for the nasty smoking habit regardless of source, I am accustomed to one small area on Disney for that. I hope my upcoming sailing on Norwegian isn't a huge disappointment. I keep my body healthy I don't want others polluting it!!

Sorry to be one of the many to 'burst your bubble'. ;) Smoking is permitted on balconies, all open areas on the outside decks (except near outdoor food stations, i.e. BBQ at the pool), and the Casino..... There is also a cigar bar on most ships if weather prohibits outdoor smoking. I find most people are pretty considerate and do not deliberately go out of their way to annoy fellow passengers who do not smoke.

Hope it helps. Have a good cruise:)

  6. I purchases two $25.00 coupons equal to $100.. for A cruise on the NCL Breakaway but ended up canceling...has anybody used the coupons for another cruise like the NCL GEM..it says one year expiration but using it for another ship?

Hi Slotlady888 ~ Are you asking if you can use them on another ship? Yes you can as long as it is before they expire? When did you purchase? I'm guessing from Slot Play on line (miss that - didn't know we were going in Dec. or I would have gotten them before 6/15). Oh well.

Do you want to 'sell them"...What's the expiration date?

    You can reply here..I'll watch.

    Thanks.

    P

  7. Yes, print-yourself coupon booklets are still available from NCL but they do not contain anything worth printing.

See a recent thread from couple of days back here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2065500

Thanks a lot. We'll check them out and see if anything is worth 'wasting paper'...

Just checked out the coupons...Not a one that's useable for us...But thanks for the direction :-)

  8. Good day cruisers, We were wondering if NCL still gives coupon books? If so, does your T/A provide them or are they in the cabin upon arrival? I don't recall if there are any 'worthwhile' items. If anyone knows for sure, we'd appreciate knowing,

We are sailing 12/1 for 12 nights on the Gem! :D Hope it will be great in all aspects.

    Thanks for your help:)

    Safe sails always ~:)

  9. Hi, we recently booked a 12 nite on NCL Gem..Got a Northeast resident rate which was the same $30 less p/person, which is also the same for AARP....Not a big deal. It is very rate to get a military rate. Princess offers on OBC, p/p depending on the length of the cruise.

It will cost way more than $30 for AARP.

    Hope this helps.

    Safe sails :-)
  10. I go into whatever cruise line I've booked, and I check at least 2x a day! Call me crazy. We had booked an 11 night (NCL) and a 12 night showed up $100 less + Northeast resident rate. Pays to keep looking. Obviously, we switched cruises.

Have fun checking and enjoy your cruise :-)

  11. OK We are already getting a $50 OBC from the T/A and we'll use some of our Loyalty Points from their agency, so we'll actually have about $175 OBC in total. So, we're good with what we have....A couple of doors away from mid elevator.....works for us.

    Thanks and be safe.

  12. Dash sale is obc based on cabin category. It is only "new" bookings.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using Forums mobile app

Hi, we booked the Gem, 11 night in Oct., on May 9th, BA balcony cabin. Could I cancel that today and rebook it with a different cabin and get the $250 OBC? Our T/A is off today. Could we do through NCL directly?

    Awaiting your reply for guidance.

    Thanks in advance.

    Safe sails.

  13. Thanks. I also think what the OP particularly needs to see is a pic taken on the balcony itself, showing the framing. I will keep looking; I know there are a few buried on this board somewhere, as I was looking into this several years ago when we had a balcony that was pretty far forward on the Jewel. In fact, were it not for CC, I wouldn't have even known these balconies existed. The deck plans don't identify them as such.

HI Turtles and Sparks!! Thanks to you both for your input and pictures, we have changed to a BA Mid-Ship Balcony:D....We knew after seeing the pix we would not be "happy campers"....Thanks ever so much. Maybe if we're lucky, we'll get a little price drop on that category. It is the ONLY one that did not go down in price.

    Safe sails always:)

  14. Hello UandMe4Ever

Are sure you are booked for Novmeber 11 this year. If so you may have a problem , Norwegian Gem's 9-Day Eastern Caribbean sailings from New York on November 5 and November 15, 2014 have been

cancelled as Norwegian Gem will enter a dry dock for maintenance and enhancements from November 9, 2014 to November

22, 2014 in Grand Bahama Island. Make sure you have the proper dates,

Apologies...It's Oct. 27th, 11 Night Gem....We were thinking of November for a repo on RCI, but that didn't work out.....Yes I see that the Gem w/ be DD in November...

    Thanks for paying attention!!

  15. Thanks so much for your reply. Sometimes I get a little "queasy" even mid-ship, just depends....I'm usually OK in the theatre unless it's very bad and then lots of folks feel the same way...Looking forward to more news after your cruise. I check back here.

Have a great cruise and safe sails :-)

  16.

    Good Morning Cruisers,

We have booked the Gem for November 11 Night Eastern from NYC...We took a guarantee balcony, as the price had just dropped $110. p/p. Good deal. However, NCL immediately assigned us Balcony cabin 8518!! We've never get a forward balcony, and I'm a bit concerned about the motion, especially if the seas get a little 'rough'.

If anyone has any information about that location, we would greatly appreciate your honest opinions....It could be a 'make it or break it' deal. We've said NCL 3x previously and usually take a cabin near mid elevator area... Hope the Gem is nice and food/entertainment is good as well.

We appreciate any and all HONEST input. I look forward to your replies and thanks very much in advance.:)

    Safe sails always.

  17.

Well, America got it right this time! Amber deserved to win! It wouldn't have been fair if Corbin won...A somewhat professional dancer to start. I was also hoping Jack would come in at least 2nd....

Done for another season! Hope next time they get all non professional stars who have NO dancing experience. Let's make it a fair completion next time.

Happy and Safe Holidays to all:)

  18. I do agree with Lois about the show being "fixed" or set up to a certain extent. But what galls me the most is having one or two who are really great dancers with training, and the rest who are rather klutzy. Personally, I would much prefer to see all the contestants with equal talent, or lack thereof, who compete on the basis of who progresses the most each week. I would find that much more interesting than having a show with 10 untalented and two ringers.

I agree with all of the above! I can't believe Elizabeth was voted off and Bill is still there! I like Bill, but a dancer he is NOT! Sorry. I think something is wrong with this picture:rolleyes: Let's keep it real for the next season or lots of viewers will not be watching. We need "newbies", not professionals or anyone with dancing experience "under their belts"..

    I feel better now, thanks!;)
