  1. I'm looking forward to it. I like the concept provided that it's well executed.

My DW, on the other hand, is an MDR fan

I, too, am a MDR fan and since I travel solo, I don't know if the DD is right for me. I would rather have a table where I can "make friends" for the week and discuss what we did that day. Makes for interesting dinner conversation. I am wondering, however, with the DD, will there still be formal nights on cruises? Being a solo traveler as I stated before, why would I get all dressed up just to eat alone? Happy and safe travels to you ALL.:)

P.S. Sorry if the above question has been asked and answered. Thank you.

  2. That would be nice if they did ships without a dedicated Diamond Lounge first. I wonder if emails only went out to those who are on ships it will be rolled out to by the time they sail? Interesting....

Between this and the Diamond Lounge (for ships that have it), it's another reason why the drink package would be a waste of money for me:D

  3. Think about it this way, if the average drink costs 8.50, tip would bring it up to around 10. Have a couple of cocktails over the course of the day, maybe throw in a beer and a couple sodas and you'll hit your $55.

It feels like a lot to me, but when I do the math I know I'll end up ahead by buying it.

Since I don't drink that much, it would be a waste for me:(. Now, if they had a casino package - Whoo Hoo :D

  4. The Diamond Club is located on deck 14 - right side of the Viking Crown Lounge. The Concierge Lounge is located on deck 10 as you indicate.

IMO, the Diamond Club is by far the nicer of the two with floor to ceiling windows and a private outdoor deck as well.

ssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Now they'll all be coming to the Diamond Lounge:eek:- LOL

  5. My wife was very happy to share good news with me.

She mentioned to her supervisor that we had a cruise booked prior to her starting her new job but was resigned to the fact she could not go. Much to her suprise her supervisor said she will check bit felt sure that they could excuse her for the trip.

We will keep you posted with any updates.

Again, thanks to so many of you for your input.

Well, I guess that means I can't come along.:) I hope she is able to get the time off and that the two of you have the greatest cruise ever.:) Good luck.

  6. You have his first name, his ship and itinerary, and where he worked on it. That should be enough info to allow you to contact RCCL with your satisfaction and praise of this employee. ;-)

This is true. Back in 2010 I sailed on Serenade and had the nicest, sweetest cabin steward I'd ever had. Could not remember his last name, only his first name and where he was from. When I wrote to RCCL to "praise" this employee, they knew exactly who I was speaking of. I'm glad to read that someone left that good of impression on you and your family.

  7. Upcoming booking in a JS for DW & myself in Nov. She's not going to ne able to go but I still will sail. Airfaire and ground trans already paid for, cruise not PIF yet. I know we can get back the ground trans fee for her, loose $ for airfaire.

My question is, how much of her cruise faire will be refunded & how much do I have to pay as a solo cruiser? Lastly, I belive I will get triple C&A points...right?

Bummer my wife cant make this trip and no, we never buy cruise insurance. This is first time in 15 years our travel plans have been interrupted so we are ok w/o insurance and are still ahead overall.

What now? I'll go with you:D

  8. We just stick to the soda package.

We enjoy a few drinks before dinner in the CL

If we want a drink at dinner or a show we just buy it. Most of the time we dont.

Between the two of us our booze purchase has always been less than $100 dollars for the whole cruise.

    Sea Ya

See, Sue, that's how I am. I drink more than you, but not that much. My total bar tab for a 7 night cruise runs around $150 (which includes adding an additional tip, sometimes). I also go to the Diamond Lounge, so that would "cut into" the package also. Man, where was this deal when I first started cruising and rank like a fish? Oh well:D. Whatever anyone decides to do, remember drink responsibly, you'll never know when the Captain will ask you to commandeer the ship;)

  9. When did they raise the age? I thought the minimum age for ALL venues was 18.

I think she/he can go to the club, they just won't be served alcohol. I took a young man with me to the club one night, he was 20 and we sat together at the bar. He was served soda. The same at the Casino bar - this was on Freedom last September.

  10. I believe they check ID for the nightclub as well. The Crypt I think it was called.

Yeah, it's the Crypt. There are also security guys at the entrance downstairs to check ID's and a guy at the opening upstairs checking them. These guys are strict, too.

  11. If something was left in the stateroom, does RC contact the person to whom the room was registered? This is assuming of course, that someone was honest enough to turn it in.

Would YOU need to contact RC? Do they just automatically ship the items to you?

How does this work? Just off a cruise and a friend left something in the room.

    Thanks!

If it's clothing, they won't return it. I called the 800 number for lost and found and told the young lady on the other end what I had left. She apologized and said they did not return clothes. I was really pissed off at myself because it was a really nice, long, blue jean (light blue) coat that my sister had given me. I'm still hurting over the fact that they would not return it:mad:. I guess from now on, I just won't bring anything I care that much about in case I leave it behind:(. Good luck to your friend in getting his/her item:)

  12. The bar in the picture is in center of the pool deck and right by all the line dancing. It also has great views of the ocean while you are sailing! It's not the only pool bar though there is a also a large bar under the TV screen. I never visited this bar because I felt like it was away from everything going on. But if you were looking for a quite option that might be a better location for a poolside drink.

I was on Enchantment a few years ago and she had the "typical" pool bar, which is okay. I love spending time at the pool bar and checking out the activities. But Oasis looks like it's the place to hang out on the pool deck. As for a "quiet" option, honey, I'll be quiet when I'm dead - maybe not even then:eek:. Thanks for your response and I am truly looking forward to my trip in 88 days.

  13. Hey Sheila, small world! Have you tried Akron-Canton? We just cancelled 2 cruises b/c we could not get airfare to Ft. Lauderdale for under $5-600 bucks from either airport. It is CRAZY. Good luck!

I have not checked out the fare from A/C. I don't drive and have no way of getting there, except by taxi, which I wouldn't do. If I can find a ride there, I'll check it out. Thanks.

Bye the way, the air fare I saw was lower than $500, but the arrival times were bad. I'll keep looking though.

  14. Thanks for the review, nice that you were able to get away for a weekend! Wish I could right about now...but airfare is ridiculously high from Cleveland :(

Hey North Royalton - University Heights here:). I know what you mean about air fare from Cleveland. I'm still looking and hoping I get something fairly decent for my trip. If not, I'm going to have to do something really bad to get it:eek:

  15. You can pay anyway you like as long as you pay it off by the final payment date. I usually make monthly payments. That's easier for me. :D

I work with a Certified Planner through Royal. She's really great. My cruise is coming up in April. I booked with her, she told me when the payoff date was, and I just have been making payments since then. I only have 2 more payments before the payoff date. She told me it is easier to make a payment directly through a planner than on the website. Whenever I book a cruise, either through Royal or my TA, I always make monthly payments - it's easier on the wallet that way. Happy and safe cruising to all:)

  16. Hi fellow CC'rs....Just off the January 5 Western sailing on the Freedom of the Seas...Visited Jamaica, Haiti, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Formal nights were day 2 and 5. No escargot available. Lobster(fishermans plate) also on day 5. Mike Hunnerup is the cruise director and did a really good job.

Any questions I will do my best to answer.

Did you find my blue jean coat that I left on board in September 2013?:(

Did you have fun?:) I love, love, LOVE Freedom. I'm going to try and sail her again this year.

  17. OasisOTS2013, I think it is time you step up to Celebrity. You might be pleasantly surprised. These days we pretty much split our cruises between Celebrity and Royal Caribbean.

I do love Oasis and Allure. I don't know what ship in the nineties offered the entertainment options and dining options that these two ships offer. So far they are my all time favorite ships.

I was thinking about trying Celebrity, but heard that the ships "close down" at around 11:00 p.m. Is there any truth to this? I still may try Celebrity anyway. Thanks for any and all responses:)
