  1. I agree. Besides having so many 4 and 5-star Mariners on the VOV this year, we also had a bad Noro outbreak the first 2 weeks. Due to all the extra laundry because of that, there was one time it took 3 days for our laundry to get back. The laundry dept. even borrowed extra staff from another ship in port with us.

    Hi Carolyn!

After daily posting prior to our VOV on the Rotterdam, I have CC withdrawal and was happy to come across your post!

The only time we have EVER used on board laundry was on the July VOV cruise when we were caught in the rain during our kayaking excursion. We returned to the ship dripping wet. Since the weather was cool, we had on heavy clothes and there was no way we could hang everything in our bathroom and wait for it to dry. So, we stuffed it all in a laundry bag and were surprised it all fit! We even had enough room to throw in 2 long-sleeved shirts as well. The bag weighted about 20 lbs and was dripping water. I called the front desk to request a laundry pick up and within 10 minutes, the bag was gone. Our clothes came back the next day fresh and folded. The shirts were on a hanger. Well worth the $20.

So even with 700+ 4 and 5 stars on our cruise, the laundry service was excellent! This was near the end of the Noro crisis and may be due to the extra help on board. Never the less, we were satisfied.

  2. Great, great cruise! Arrived on time in Boston. Immigration on board the ship was a breeze and this dramatically expedited disembarkation for us as we were among the first off the ship. We used Uber to get to our hotel in Revere where our car was parked for 38 days.

We have only good things to say about the ship, food, ports and especially the crew. We did have some minor issues with our account and made about 6 visits to Guest Services during the cruise but they were all resolved.

We met so many nice people on board and made some new friends. Hope to cruise with them again sometime!

Our Cruise Critic M&M's really helped people get acquainted early. It made the cruise much more "friendly" to meet folks we knew in all the ports! We never felt like strangers!

Also, special thanks to Fr. Roman, Pastor Pat and Rabbi Elliot for their kind words and continuing prayers during the cruise. We're happy we could share the experience with you!

Happy sailing Rich and also to every one reading!

  3. We booked our VOV while on the Koningsdam in Dec 2016. It was nice to see her in port. She is much bigger than the Rotterdam!

We spent the morning walking around Isafjordur. It's 47F, windy and overcast. Rain is predicted to begin at 1:30 pm. Hope it doesn't impede our scenic cruising at 5 pm. On the way back to the ship, we stopped at the bakery for 2 coffees and 2 donuts. Total was 1650 ISK, about $16.50 USD!

    Next stop is Greenland!

  4. Sitting in the Kaapse Brouwers (brewery) in Rotterdam enjoying a tasting board flight of craft beer. Today was a beautiful day in Rotterdam! Looking forward to another one tomorrow.

We toured the town of Gouda which is 18 meters below sea level. How the Dutch make dry land out of low land is fascinating! Tomorrow, we will go to see how the windmills work and learn more.

I have been very impressed with the ship, the ports, the entertainment and the staff of this ship. IMO, if we cross the Arctic Circle, it will make this our best cruise ever! If we don't, it will still be our best cruise ever!

Looking forward to our M&M on Tuesday, just to refresh my memory of who is who and meet up with our new passengers.

  5. No hot weather yet for us! 63F and cloudy today in Alesund. What a great town to walk around! We hiked up the hill on the steps and took the trail back down. The Alesund Museum was interesting.

So far, we are healthy and no one we know of has been ill.

Looking forward to another M&M next week!

  6. How does this work? My son's are going on a cruise and sharing a cabin, but do not want to share the SeaPass account on one credit card. Can two different folio's be set up?
I have done this on HAL, NCL and Carnival. I entered the passenger name and CC number to use. 2nd pax same card, yes or no? Say no and enter another CC number.

I suspect RCL is the same.

    Good luck!

  7. My doctor ordered me to drink beer. I love my doctor!!!

Draught beer is better for me than bottled beer. I've sailed on eight different cruise ships (Four belonging to HAL, but not the Rotterdam). And every ship offered different beer/ale selections.

Not all of them had draught beer.

On the Voyage of the Vikings cruise aboard the ms Rotterdam, will the Ales and Spirits Bar offer beer-on-tap? And if so, dare I hope that for the return trip from Rotterdam to Boston, they will bring on board some interesting European beers and ales?! Upon leaving Ireland, would it be too much to ask for a keg (or two or three) of Guiness to find its way on board the ship? (Guiness being the preferred "medicine" according to my doctor ... who am I to argue.)

If anyone can shed light on the matter it will be much appreciated. I have to prepare my kidneys for what lies ahead. :halo:

Hmmm. I tried to find some info on the Mix Bar but came up empty. The one discontinued thread on Trip Adv said draught selections on board, if available, were pretty poor.

Rob has already scoped out the local breweries on all our stops so he might be a good source for ports when you get off the ship!

    Happy Canada Day!

  8. Z , Thrilled you decided to post this thread! Just wish we were joining you and Pam.

We will have Bloody Marys and big hugs waiting for you both in San Fran hotel. Keep the Mariner neat and tidy for our boarding on May 6.

Party hard, enjoy the delicious food, relax, get well, and send pictures.

    Hi Karen!

Just found your post here and was wondering if you are still going on the Voyage of the Vikings in July. Have not seen you post anything to the Roll Call since you started it.

    Happy sailings!

  9. Just got an email from MSC saying they discovered an issue with the survey and that I may have been "unintentionally disqualified" from completing it. They asked me to retake it.

Win a cruise for 4 adults. Okay. I'll see what happens this time.

  10. I got it too. It said it was going to take about 25 minutes to complete. It asked my age, if I was male or female, if I was Hispanic/Latino, and then it asked what my race was and what our household income was. I chose “prefer not to answer” for both of those and then the survey ended. Weird.

I had the same result. Just chalked it up to poor IT issues at MSC. Or, MSC is only looking to survey specific demographics and they lost interest when I said "Prefer not to answer".

  11. Dear MichiganTwoSome,

Our experience was nearly identical 4 years ago. We just got off the ship with everyone else and had no problems. Alla Tours was top notch in every way. It was the best excursion we have ever had on our 16 cruises. Happy to hear they are still giving good service. We would gladly use them again!

  12. We were on Splendor out of LA last month and it was awesome. We did check in. No picture taking; they used our passport picture. The card was in the slot by our door at about 130. We did not have FTTF.
Same on Victory out of Miami in April. We loved it! Never waited in a line anywhere until the MDR at 6! Just be sure you have only what you need in your carry on because you have to keep it with you until 1:30.

  13. It was tiny. It was just before you get to Eden Rock.

Enjoyed your review! Just read the whole thing! Looking forward to the finish.

We like Eden Rock too and have been there twice.

Are you aware that Carnival offers discounted fares for teachers? NCL and others might also. Worth asking about.

  14. Sorry Dad is no longer going.

I think Uber is a smart move. Public transit would involve a shuttle to the blue line at Wonderland, ride to the airport stop, free shuttle bus to a Logan Terminal, free SL1 Silver Line to World Trade Center, and transfer via elevator over the track to the SL2 Silver Line to Black Falcon.

You could shave some money off your Uber cost by taking the Blue Line to Aquarium and Uber to the port.

Mom and Dad decided they would plan for VOV next year, so our experience may be helpful for them. Thanks for your input and ideas. I'll follow up on the Blue Line.

  15. My confirmation from ParkSleepHotels shows dates for 1 night stay July 17 and car pickup date of Aug 25 and the total price. So, yes, it's in writing.

Is it reasonable to do public transportation to the port from Revere? There are routes online but well have our bags and my dad is in a wheelchair. What if I drove everyone to the port, dropped them off then return to the hotel and do public transportation alone? How long do you think all that would take midmorning on a Wednesday?

  16. If you dock at the Pan American pier you cannot walk to OSJ. Lots of taxi's at the pier. If you are at the Old San Juan pier you are right in the thick of the area.

Been to SJ 5 times and only once saw a ship at PanAm pier. We have always docked at San Juan pier. When you exit the pier you are in OSJ! If you are healthy, you can walk to both forts and all around town.
