  1. When we were on Deck 7 (2004) with a verandah cabin (not aft) I asked our steward when I boarded could we please have a lounge brought to the verandah.

The verandah was able to fit that and the small chair and table. It is not huge but will hold one lounge.

I am looking forward to having the larger aft verandah next year in 7116.

  2. PRINCESS, we sail in oct. When do you sail. 7116 is right below 8066. As I see it on the diagram, 7116 has a larger balcony than 8066. I have heard that they fit 2 chairs and 2 lounge chair aswell on 7116. But I haven't heard anything about fitting any lounge chairs on 8066. That would be nice.

We have booked 7116 for the 5th June sailing, Tahiti to Honolulu. You mentioned that 2 lounge chairs will fit on the balcony. Are they already there when you embark or do you have to request them from your steward?

When we were last on the TP in 2004, we had a normal verandah cabin on deck 7 and I requested for one lounge to be brought to our cabin which was organized very quickly. I am just wondering if they are part of the furniture for the aft cabins.

  3. Jennie, are you talking about the drinks that are also extra charge in the dining room? I know about soda, alcohol, and bottled water being extra charge. However, if I order tea or juice to the room WITH room service, I am not charged extra......am I?

We leave on our first HAL cruise THIS UPCOMING SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I am trying to learn all that I can.

    Thanks!

    THLB,

You are not charged for tea or coffee in the dining room nor if you have a tea or coffee in your cabin and it is brought by room service.

Have a wonderful cruise and I hope you enjoy your time on one of HAL's lovely ships.

  4. Twopeas,

I am not sure what you mean by special areas for lounging. We have never paid to sit on special lounges anywhere on a HAL ship.

Yes you do have to pay for services in the Spa and Beauty Salon

The Pinnacle Grill is also the only place that you pay for food. We used to get our espresso coffee gratis but that changed when they upgraded all the ships. Room service is free and you can order a full breakfast as well as at night you can order what is on the dining room menu. During the day there is snacks menu that you can use.

You can have cooking lessons and that is also a charge. I believe it is well worth the money.

Of course you have to pay for photos but the same applies to most ships.

Drinks of course are charged including wines at dinner, drinks ordered to have in your room and in the various lounges and bars. I know on some ships drinks are included but not so on HAL. Also if a bar service has been set up in your cabin, I believe that the drinks used are also charged.

I think I have covered everything that we have ever paid for on our account. We are not gamblers so we do not buy any chips etc.

Last but not least, a set amount of $10 a day p.p. is charged to your account. This includes all tips though you can personally hand over extra to your favourite steward if you like, it is up to you.

  5. Funcorn,

Even though we pay for our laundry to be done on each cruise, sometimes we get it back the same day obviously due to not many people sending their laundry out. On the Maasdam 17 day cruise in July to Rotterdam, we sent out items every day. We do not send jeans and certain T shirts, but we do send out my DH's chinos and polo shirts as well as his dress shirts and business shirts that he wears with his reefer jacket.

I handwash my underwear and anything that is made of silk etc. As K.K. said do not send anything out that you would be worried about. On the Maasdam last July I think the package for 17 days was around $90. We always use it on every ship and as we fly into a port at least 3 days precruise, we find that we have spent the $90 or whatever on the first couple of send outs.

We believe in having a proper holiday with no washing to worry about.

  6. Hugger,

I can only answer for the Veendam and Maasdam. The only difference between an A balcony and a B balcony cabin is whether you want to be on a higher deck. I personally do not and therefore we have booked a B verandah.

The bathrooms have what they call a "whirlpool bath and shower" and a refrigerator in the cabin as well as a mini bar.

    GloriaF,

When we are on board a HAL ship we always purchase the unlimited laundry package, even though we are not in a suite and therefore not entitled to the free laundry package.
