  1. First, you have to decide what you want to see, and how to get to it. I suggest you get a copy of Rick Steves’ Mediterranean Cruise Ports. He describes your ports and what there is to see/do in the time you have to do it. And how to do it yourself, and how much it might cost. He doesn’t cover many of the islands, such as Mallorca, Sicily, Malta, and the Greek islands, but they are covered in other of his travel books, and by Lonely Planet. Guidebooks and websites can tell you what entrance fees might be charged for some of the sites. Some ports you can just walk off, others require a shuttle as attractions are an hour or more away. We were long retired seniors and in new ports, usually booked half day basic tours from the ship. But many places we just walked off and wandered. We took the train to Rome and walked…a lot. With a map. We rode the subway in Barcelona, wandered all over Venice. it takes research. Join the roll call for your cruise and see what your fellow guests are planning. EM
  2. Did you try it with liquid in the glasses? Just curious if sloshing liquid might be a problem. EM
  3. It was reported here that in Oct. 2017, following a hurricane that closed San Juan, leaving Fascination with no home…they sent her briefly to JAX and called (casino players) people and offered a free cruise if they could sail the same day. Unfortunately we weren’t called, as our contact with the casino is to hurry through, trying not to inhale. EM
  4. Certainly this is true, but it has been reported here that if a cabin can hold 3/4, you can’t book it for 2, at least not online. EM
  5. Oh dear. I lived in NYC for ten years, worked there again for six months 15 years later, and I don’t think I owned anything black…. But that was many, many years ago. EM
  6. I don’t think 4033 is far forward enough to hear the anchor. But it is a connecting cabin with 4031. EM
  7. I can only sort of answer your question. Ten years ago we sailed Nieuw Amsterdam from Venice. We went in a day or more early, and stayed in the hotel that HAL was using, though our TA did not book it through HAL. We found out when in the morning there were lots of bags with HAL tags in the lobby, and people wandering around. I believe they load all the bags in water taxis and transport separately. Guest’s travelled separately, although we were sailing from marattima in Venice. EM
