  1. What is the drink maximum amount that is covered by the UBP, and if you go over that do you just pay the difference? Our TA says the max is $11, and if you go over it isn't covered at all; NCL's website says the max is $15, and if you go over you just pay the difference. I hope that our TA is -- as usual (she's the queen of misinformation) -- wrong.

  2. I would love a refurbished ship but I chose the Sun for a 2 week adventure August 15th because of the the Glaciers. I read about Glacier Bay and I really wanted to see Vancouver. I booked a balcony for the view and I am not expecting it to be as pretty as the Carnival's Dream was. I hope it isn't as outdated as some people whine about but hey, it's Alaska and being happy is a choice that I am going to make. I just really hope I don't get sick after leaving Florida during the hottest time of the year to go to a chilly, rainy, ice filled area! I'll just have to kill the germs while enjoying that Free Ultimate Drink Package ;-)

We Floridians will all have to be prepared to bundle up on our Alaska cruises!

  3. What about those emergency silver mylar blankets? Anyone use those on the balcony? If yes, do they keep you warm? Or are they too noisy? They pack to nothing, so was wondering if they would be helpful for the balcony in Alaska?

I have had one of them for several years, but never used it. Mainly because, whenever I think I might want to use it, I cant find it. I guess I should conduct another search, and if that fails, hope the Sun provides blankets or use something from the beds -- although duvets now seem a lot more common than blankets. And if none of that works, we can just bundle up!

  4. We did the Secret River excursion last February off of Carnival and it was our favorite out of everything we did. If anyone in your party has any sort of mobility issues or problems with Claustrophobia they would probably want to avoid this excursion as there is a lot of close areas, darkness and some climbing involved. They provide everything you need - life jackets, water shoes, wet suit, helmet w/head lamp, etc. The trip was fascinating and flew by. Nice meal at the end of the trip. If you have any specific questions I'll try to answer.

Is all that equipment necessary? I'm thinking of doing the excursion on an upcoming Celebrity cruise (which I imagine is similar to Carnival's), but Celebrity's description sounds more like an easy swim (or wade).

  5. Yes, you should have "Classic Beverage Pkg for 2" as one of your picks for Go Big. Did you already pick another Go Big perk? Are you getting a special or discounted rate, such as a senior or veteran's discount or a guarantee cabin? The Go Big may not apply in those cases (I'm not sure - would need to ask travel agent or Celebrity). Celebrity or your travel agent should be able to explain why you cannot choose the beverage package as normally it should be a Go Big offer available to you.

Thanks. Yes, I think that's what it was. They were giving me the resident's rate. It would have been clearer if they had told me that.

  6. I plan on taking two bottles in my carry on, 2 in our checked luggage, 1 in my hoodie, and 1 in my pet kangaroo's pocket (shhh its a service animal) my husband plans to do the same less one since his service animal is a tarantula!

    Happy sailing. Keep smiling!

How do your kangaroo and hamster get along together? And with the tarantula? You must need to share your wine with them to keep them under control.

  7. Hi Judy, did you know that you and Celebrity cannot be looking

at your reservation together? That is wrong too. In other words,

if you have a question about your booking and are looking at it,

the folks at Celebrity cannot be in the reservation with you.

I think that is ridiculous. But what do I know?

Wow! I didn't know that -- that's just plain crazy. Not to mention, also very inefficient.

  8. Many of the shore excursion descriptions are unnecessarily repetitive. On first glance, this may make it seem like a comprehensive description, until one sees that it merely duplicates the same wording. For example, here's the beginning of the description of the "Highlights of Split Riviera" excursion:

    Overview

A scenic drive along the "Riviera of the Seven Castles" takes you to the island town of Trogir, home to some of Croatia's most incredible landmarks. It's a town of stone homes, regal palaces, green parks and incredible cathedrals. You'll see all the best sites and then visit the restored Pantan Old Mill for lunch and a performance of Dalmatian songs. Return to Split for a walking tour through the city's 17 centuries of history. AT05

    Highlights

Visit the charming town of Trogir and Diocletian's Palace in Split, both UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Enjoy an authentic Croatian lunch and a folklore performance at a restored countryside mill.

Stroll through the ancient streets of Split on a guided walking tour.

  9. 1) Not including a maximum age restriction anywhere in the excursion description. For example, the description of the Hiking in Paklenika National Park excursion at Zadar, Croatia contains no age restriction, but when I tried to book it, I was unable to because it then showed a maximum age of 65. Some descriptions include the age restriction; this one does not.

    2) Requiring input of booking number, name, ship name, and sailing date every time the passenger want to access shore excursions. Why isn't just the booking number enough?

  10. 3) locking out a cruise record for 20 minutes after you make a change is incredibly frustrating. I realize this is a harder fix, but it shows that the entire backend probably needs to be rewritten on a modern database platform. Someone has to bite the bullet and spend the $'s to do this.

Locking the passenger out of the website for 20 minutes when NO change has been made. If I inadvertently back out of the site while I'm just viewing it, I have to wait 20 minutes to get back in. Sometimes it just isn't worth the effort.

  11. We are continually told that Celebrity is aware of the problems and that they are looking into fixing them. Of course, this has been the company "line" for years now. Things just keep getting worse - not better. They should just say - "we are aware of your concerns with the website and appreciate your putting up with it".

That would be a lot more honest, wouldn't it?
