  1. Do any of the other guests who enjoy good quality beef notice that there has been a change to the texture of cuts being served in the MDR? I have hesitated to write this review but on our cruise earlier this year I became increasingly concerned about the quality of the beef, each time my DH and I had beef it had a jelly like texture which I can only compare to previously experiencing from Danish bacon joints/steaks bought in the UK. The beef and the Danish bacon had obviously gone through a tenderising process changing the structure, instead of having a bite and a resistance that you would expect in good beef the texture was overly soft and yes jelly like!

We eventually stopped ordering beef as I take care with the food I purchase at home and I am prepared to pay to ensure the provenance of the beef I buy so when I am on an upscale cruise I would expect to at least be served beef that has been unadulterated. Being Scottish we have access to quality beef and recognise an inferior product and while I may not expect to be served the same standard I would not want the product to have been processed.

Are my DH and I alone in this observation?

Seems to me that Celebrity seems to be sourcing more and more food from Sysco type companies. The food quality has gone down and down over the past few years. X seems more concerned about building fancier ships with more extra pay venues then maintaining a high quality product. Service is worse, food quality is worse, live quality acts are disappearing and being replaced with canned music and DJs. All very sad.

  2. Tell the agent to contact X. Tell the agent to say this is not acceptable late seating or no booking. Late seating is never sold out, has never been on any X cruise I have taken. This is just a ploy by X to force people into paying your gratuities up front which is required when you accept select dining. When you pay them up front they then cannot be removed once onboard. They have tried to force us several times to accept select dining but I have always refused and been given late seating. I have never removed the automatic service charges but I gather more then a few do. X is trying to reduce this by forcing more people into select dining. Just say no!

  3. To finish this conversation I would like to add that whatever people wear on P&O it far out weighs some of the other cruise lines. Just back from a lovely cruise on a Celebrity ship and what I saw I could not believe. Sitting at the bar in the Casino on a formal night a man casually walked through in his dressing gown - enough said, and there were quite a number of men in shorts. I don!t think anyone can complain about P&O cruises.

Totally agree about Celebrity, they have really gone downhill fast. Used to be our favorite cruiseline but.... looking forward to our first on P&O Arcadia Feb. 8 2016.

  4. Hi Guys,

I just signed on for this cruise ... The Panama Canal is on my hit list but, I seem to be the only one of my friends that can take the time off from work in Dec ...So, going single ...looking forward to this! Another friend told me about this site so, I thought I would sign in and say hi! BTW, I am Jeff

Hi Jeff. Sorry but we have changed cruises. We got a great deal on P&O Arcadia Feb 4th 2016 from Santiago to Sydney. Five guys we have meet on other cruises are still going on this cruise though. Enjoy.

  5. We just arrived home from the Century. Loved, loved loved it. Best Celebrity service. We stayed on deck 12 but not in a sky suite this time it was our fifth time on deck 12 our favorite on any ship. We have been in that cabin once. It is like a super large cabin almost twice as wide as a regular cabin with a super large marble lined bath with a huge tub. Amazingly spacious cabin and huge balcony nearly twice as wide and twice as deep as a standard balcony. But.... It is only a cabin not really a suite as in separate spaces for sleeping and sitting. But I would love to stay in one again. But I am cheap and always stay inside. Say hi to Jose Batista and Budi. They will most likely be your cabin stewards. They were the very best we have ever had plus you will have a butler too. Enjoy!

  6. I think it depends partly on where you are cruising. On our last cruise from Sydney to Hawaii guys were wearing jeans and t-shirts to both the dining room and Murano even on formal nights. Seems like Celebrity does not really strictly enforce their code. That cruise was the most informal cruise we have been though Caribbean cruises are too. While we always wear dress slacks and button down shirts in casual nights and Tuxedos on formals nights we are no where near the norm on Celebrity anymore. Modern Luxury seems to also mean dress as you like more and more these days.
