1. I found the exact opposite. We were just on the Solstice, Sydney to Hawaii. Dress was quite casual. The Aussies in particular. Remember this cruise is a bit like a Caribbean cruise to the Islands. It will be very hot in Polynesia. Celebrity has become more lax in the dress code area. Jeans are very common in the main dining room. Young men wear t shirts to dinner and girls in sun dresses. Worse yet is seeing guys in jeans and t shirts in Murano on Formal nights. The Aussies are very used to spending a lot to eat out so the extra pay restaurants were very busy every night and even more so on formal nights since there is no dress code in the extra pay restaurants on formal nights. Yes, many still dress. We wore our tuxes as usual. Dress slacks and long sleeve button down shirts on other nights but you will find many, many people dress much more casually then ever before. I find the dress of X passengers is becoming more like NCL with many fewer dressing formally and X does not seem to be pushing people to adhere to their code. So.... Dress as you feel comfortable. I stick to the old styles but many, many more and X seem to be going the much more casual way.

  2. My husband and I did it 4 years ago he was 67 and 49 for me. It was not very hard just a bit long. We passed a group of young guys half way up. They seemed to be struggling but it was not bad at all. Great views along the way.

  3. Thanks Richard and John for sharing. We will be on her Aug. 24th. Love reading anything about her and Alaska. The Century is our favorite Celebrity ship we were on her back in Dec. to Hawaii and she was in superb condition other then the chairs in the Crystal room. We were told by the Captain and the Hotel manager Sheldon Thompson that they were being redone so nice to hear it happened. We too are formerly from the Boston area, Ogunquit to be exact. Have we met? Enjoy your cruise!

  4. Thank you for the review. We board her on the 24th. This will be our seventh time on the Century and probably our last since she is being sold next spring. She was our first X cruise. Still my favorite X ship. We sailed on her to Hawaii in Dec. she was in fabulous shape then and by far the best crew Celebrity has. We will miss her greatly. Glad you enjoyed your cruise.

  5. The Infinity has the Constellation Lounge, all the way forward up high. We spent most of our inside time there on our last Alaska cruise. The Solarium pool area also is inside where you can watch things go by plus sit in a hot tub or the heated pool, really nice after a cold day in Alaska. You can also go to the buffet area, grab a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate and sit by a window. We never had a problem finding a place to watch and see. Great cruise!

  6. RC not Norwegian. If your choice is Oceanview or inside go inside. The money you save can be used on tours. We always take inside. Look at the deck plans and try to find a cabin that is closest to getting outside. Alaska is such a beautiful place to see. Sailing the inside passage is fabulous. We are going back in August. Do it you and the kids will love it.

  7. Make several copies of your passports, the main page with your photo, leave the real one in the safe and carry a copy each of your own plus have a copy of your better half so that if one of you loses yours you are safe. Also carry a drivers license. Never bring your real passport unless the ship tells you that you must have it.

  8. We were on the Solstice back in April. The shows in the Theater were never anywhere near full. Most nights before a port day the shows will be at 7pm for those with late dining and at 8:30 for those with early dining. We never had a problem finding a good seat even arriving just minutes before the start. For the one show called the Solstice show which is sort of like Cirque try to sit in the front row of the balcony for the best views . By far the most popular performances on the ship are a group called Top Notch. They are a Filipino group lead by two girls that are incredible. They play most nights in the grand foyer before each dinner seating. It is always standing room only when they are there. If you like to dance find a place down by the dance floor early. If you are people watchers try to get a table over looking the dance floor one deck up. I know they are still on board. Enjoy!

  9. Epirotiki cruise line the ship was the Pegasus and we sailed for 28 days from Athens to Rio back in the fall of 1987. By far the best cruise ever. Nothing ship but fabulous interesting people and ports and the amazingly beautifully calm south Atlantic. I miss the old days. Smaller more intimate ships that didn't cost an arm and a leg.

  10. March 2015, Celebrity Infinity, Buenos Airas to Ft. Lauderdale and will be Princess virgins :) 9/2015 Ta from Southhampton / NYC.

We are doing Infinity Dec. 5 2015 FL to Santiago. We just got back from the Solstice Trans Pacific Sydney to Hawaii. Next up this summer Alaska Aug 24 on the Century.

  11. We were just on the Solstice Sydney to Honolulu. Home since April 29th. Still no comment/cruise review in my email. I have never failed to do one on board. I would love to have the opportunity to review this cruise. It was a great cruise, wonderful staff, food, entertainment etc. X please get your IT department together if you are going to do this.

  12. OK, Bob and Jeff here Jeff doing the posting,

Bob is on the left and I am on the right with David and David in the middle they are joining us on the cruise from Scotland along with Vince and Mike from the Boston area and our future best friend Bryan.

Bob and I have been together 27 and half years. Eee gads we must be old farts. Bob is a very young 71 and I am and old soul in a 52 year old suit. We meet in the middle. We met in Oct of 1986 in Ogunquit Maine. Google that one girls. A small resort town on the southern coast with a large gay following not unlike P-town. Bob and I ran an 18 room guest house catering to the gay community. We retired in 2002 and we now spend our winters in Sarasota Florida1395601214826.jpg.03bedd1ad67f24da9a6de4a2b55d8f91.jpg the view from our log cabin in the woods. Quiet and peaceful.

Tuesday we begin our journey to the cruise and Australia. First we have to head north to New Hampshire to leave our pussy Jasper with his grand parents, my parents. 1395601431424.jpg.a97ec61bcfc5fbab6e6ebbd44bee38aa.jpg When we return from the trip we hope to be able to head up to our northern home so we fly out of Boston on April 1 leaving the frozen tundra behind, they are due for another 6-12 inches of snow plus they have 3 feet on the ground. There is 10+ feet of snow up in Canada. Ugh!

Oh well enough for now we do have lots of days at sea. We like card games, dominoes pretty much open to anything. We are Elite so assuming there is an elite cocktail lounge we will go there from 5-7 with the Davids and Vince and Mike.

Looking forward to meeting everyone on board.

  13. Hi Bobnjeff,

Thanks for sharing your insights with us. Your comments make us more excited to sail on Century, in February after her Drydock. Happy Holidays, and welcome home !

P.S. We sailed on Eclipse a few weeks ago, and I'm happy to report the crew was outstanding, and the issues you described at the buffet were not the case on our sailing. FWIW, the previously reported issue of constant loud music was also resolved, as it was virtually non-existant on our sailing.

It is great to hear that things have improved on the Eclipse. I was talking with someone on the Century who was on The Eclipse last Feb and she too had a very bad experience. So I hope that means that X is listening and fixing things. We have a big trip planned in April 8 nights in Sydney then 18 days on the Solstice to Honolulu. I wish it was on the Century but will hope for the best.

By the way X has added two new cruises to the Century March-April of 2015 one from Singapore to Dubai then Dubai to Rome. Great prices if any one is interested. Plus I hope this means that she will be in Europe starting April of 2015 for the summer. I would love to do an eastern Med. On her or Norway. I am looking forward to more the scheduel to come out hopefully March or April so we can book something when we are on the Solstice.

It was so nice to have such a great cruise on the Century. The Captain and Hotel manager say they are on for the duration so...... she is in great hands.

  14. Right from the start I new we were in for a great cruise. Checking in took all of two minutes. No long lines and very friendly staff. Filled out the usual papers and we were on the Century in all of ten minutes. Definitely a record! We have been on 20 + cruises and 10+ on Celebrity and this one is certainly at the top.

We boarded just in time for lunch about 12:30, went to our cabin first to see if by chance it was ready as it was only one floor above the Lido dining area and surprise, all ready so we left our carry on bags and headed down for a little lunch. The Lido was comfortable and not too busy at all. Unlike the Solstice class ships which are often mob scenes. We found a table and got a nice lunch. Great food, fresh salads, nice servers and spotlessly clean. This area was a real sour spot on our last cruise on the Eclipse. Rude staff, filthy tables and so crowded was this area on the Eclipse that this was a very nice surprise. Oh and no loud music blaring at us from the over head speakers, just nice soft background music so easy to have a conversation. Kudos to the staff off on the Century for realizing that most of us like to have a conversation during meals. We had lunch here all but one day. Never too crowded always clean and just super staff. From this moment on things just got better and BETTER!

No Elite cocktails were done on the first night as usual so we decided to head to Cova and have a drink and people watch and listen to a super group, The Sound Track Trio, a wonderful latin jazz group. So into their music and so talented these guys quickly became our favorites of the many, many bands on the Century. Several nights they had Jam sessions with other band members from other bands of the ship. All I can say is WOW! You would pay big bucks in any city to see such talented performers and this was all free. There was more great talent and bands on this little ship then any of the larger ships. Great drinks were served here not just coffee though that was super too. Best part was Manuel Fernandes, one of the servers here at Cova, after ordering one drink from that moment on through out the cruise when ever we walked through this area he would make a point of calling us by name, asking how our day was, having a good time, anything I can do for you. Superb hospitality considering how many drinks he must serve in a day. Simply Amazing!

Despite what some may say the Century still is in excellent condition. The only real wear we saw was on the furnishings in the Crystal lounge which according to the Captain are to be replaced during the coming dry dock. Everything else on the ship was spotless and beautifully maintained. She may not have all of the wiz bang gizmos of the newer ships but she is a very lovely traditional cruise ship in wonderful working order.

The dining was spot on everywhere on the ship. Excellent food, superb service and spotlessly clean. We had the most professional waiters ever and a truly super Asst. Maitre'd. I always wondered who they were and what they did but not with this one. He was there nearly every night making sure everything was just right. The second night he asked if we had any other problems and one of our tables mates mentioned a strange noise in her cabin disturbing her sleep. He got on the phone called someone and it was resolved before she went to bed that night. No kidding. And again, soft lovely background music, made conversation at our dining table easy and pleasurable. Why do some of the other ships feel a need to bombard us with loud music? None here. Even the Martini bar had a bit softer music. Could it be that Celebrity is listening?

We had five days at sea before Hawaii and again after. No shortage of things to do on board. The cruise Director John Grantham had everything covered from Zumba to crafts to music and everything in between. Never a dull moment. But also he was never in your face. Everything was done with style and class and a healthy dose of fun. He is now my favorite Cruise Director, sorry Sue Denning!

What really makes the Century unique is her service and HOSPITALITY. Hospitality is something that is being over looked and lost on the newer and bigger ships. They are beautifully designed but cold spaces with the hospitality being overlooked in running these massive ships. What you get on a smaller ship such as the Century is true care and concern for the guests and their happiness. The Captain was ever present greeting and talking with passengers. The superb Hotel Manager Sheldon Thompson was everywhere leading by example for his hard working and super friendly crew. Have a question or just simply want to chat, feel free. He is so approchable and so friendly. He also leads the crew volley ball team! He and the captain run this ship as if they personally owned it and it was their private home.Kind of like being in a nice B&B. After the first day so many crew members were calling us by name greeting us everywhere. Wishing us a good day, can I help you, anything you need or I can do for you. I can not say enough good things about so, so many of the crew. I will simply say that the crew on board the Century easily, easily put the crew on the Eclipse to shame. I can only hope that Celebrity will read this and take a few lessons from the great people on the Century and apply them to the larger ships soon.
