  1. That has been the normal system at Southampton whether on Princess or Cunard. Seems to be just the way they do things. The earlier you arrive the lower the alphabet letter is you receive with which you are called to check in. So arriving at 12.30 you would be a way down the alphabet Then there are individual problems that delay check in. Twice we have had computer problems at Southampton. We always arrive about 11.15 and boarding time varies quite a bit at that.

  2. We use a fake candle in the bathroom. Just enough light. Usually from the bed to the bathroom there is enough light from outside coming under the door to see your way. Unless you block it out with a towel anyway which my hubby has a habit of doing:rolleyes:.

  3. Why is it that those from the UK insist on paying USA prices? When I go to the UK, I don't insist on paying US prices for gas, hotels etc. Trying to beat the system is shady at best, if not outright illegal.

Shady maybe but not illegal as far as I can make out, not yet at any rate People just want a fair deal and I would feel the same if it was the other way round, and we had a company that charged people from different countries dfferent prices for the same product. I would want to change it for you, not criticise.

  4. Do you own a house over there or ask a friend if you can use their address? Sorry if that is asking too much, just don't answer if so. We have lots of US friends but no address we can call our own sadly;) My husband so wants to try booking the USA way and I get a bit worried about it.

It really shouldn't have to be that we need to try this to get better prices.

  5. Thank you again, I am loving seeing in photos what I will be experiencing very soon I hope.

It looks like seats in the foyer/piazza area are hard to come by. We had big problems last year on the Crown on a TA and was hoping that in the sun more people would be up on deck, leaving seats free elsewhere, but it doesn't look that way. In fact finding seats anywhere inside was a problem. It seemed like there were too many people for the number of indoor seats, and I believe this ship has an extra deck and some extra suites too so even more people.

You mention formal night. Were many men in tuxes? We are trying to decide whether to take my husbands or just his dark suit. Not much different for packing but would rather feel dressed accordingly. Thanks.

  6. The normal PG cabins on the QV and QE are the same as the mini suites on Princess which we cruised in last year. Not real suites, no suite perks, just normal cabins but bigger. I was so surprised and quite disappointed that Cunard used this design for their PG cabins and not something more special. However the Grills experience overall covers the special I suppose.
  7. Please let me know how you get on as we are in 5002 in December, just identical on the opposite side of the ship. These two rooms seem to be a tiny bit bigger and a different shape to the normal PG cabins. I think we have a bit of a walk to the dining rooms etc but that can be a good thing;) I am really excited about our first PG experience.
  8. Thank you for your review. I am so pleased you had so many good things to say about the CB. I am rather disappointed in the embarkation time though. I hope it isn't normal to be so late. In all our cruises we have never boarded so late when arriving earlyish. Also a shame about the facilities at the terminal. We did disembark there after a TA and though you are more or less passing through it did look very uninviting. I wonder why it has to be that way as with the number of ships using Port Everglades there must be enough money available to upgrade.

  9. Curiously, the simplest necktie knot is one of the least known. Try the Simple Knot.

That is the way I learnt back when I was a youngster at school, maybe 55 years ago, for our school tie. I never knew there were other ways:rolleyes:.

My husband says he can't tie his own bow-tie - of course what he means is he won't try! So I tie them for him from behind. If I wasn't there I'm afraid he would wear a pre tied!

My husband desperately wanted to buy a proper bow tie, but with written instructions, Youtube videos etc, he still hasn't mastered it. So we had to go and buy a ready tied one. Oh the shame:o.

  10. Thank you all so much. I know I invaded the thread but all the information is very helpful to others who might search Princess Grill.

Our roll call thread, or should I say my roll call thread:rolleyes: has only my post there so far and I was hoping to ask questions there. As the two of us might be the only folk on board(;) I know not every cruiser is on CC and not every CC member joins the roll calls) it might not matter what I wear:D

  11. Your ideas will work really well, you might consider a couple of black skirts with different blouses/scarves/bling. A sort of mix and match. :)

Yes that is a good idea thnaks.

Do ladies wear long dresses/skirts on nights other than formal? How about breakfast and lunch? Not long dresses of course;), just what kind of clothing? I am thinking cropped trousers and tees might seem too casual. Though our cruise is December and going from Southampton down to southern Spain, so not red hot weather, so mght only need the above clothes off the ship in spain.

  12. I don't know why they all just don't tell us the truth that it is all cost cutting rather than saying all the other rubbish they expect us to believe.

There are still plenty of nice things to look forward to though. I just hope nothing else is banished before we get a chance to experience the experience:) in October.

  13. We are in PG in December for the first time and very much looking forward to it. So I am very interested in this thread.

I have a few long dresses for formal nights and a couple of more cocktail type dresses. Would some dresses less formal but glammed up a bit with jewellery, do for some of the other nights or would I be best buying some more, or just re-wearing those I have? I just don't know what the average dress code for non formal dinner would be. My husband will take his tux and a dark suit plus probably a blazer or sports jacket. I just want to do right but not sure I need any more cocktail dresses;)

  14. Oh dear. What a shame. In themselves they seem minor but when you look at it overall it looks a bit mean. We seem to be coming late to these niceties of cruising and missing out on so many things that used to be. They just keep chipping away and chipping away. I wonder if they think we won't notice:rolleyes:. These things that have been removed or lessened were on the list when we booked and I was quite looking forward to having some flowers in the cabin, others no doubt wouldn't bother at all, but it is something that just makes a difference.

It isn't just Princess either. I was actually surprised to read in a post earlier that HAL and Celebrity are adding 'perks'. They already have some good reasons for choosing their suites so adding more will be interesting.
