I just read that. The CDC is regressing and changed their guidelines for vaccinated people. I cannot believe what I just read on the CDC site. I'm gobsmacked............

"Wear a mask to keep your nose and mouth covered when you are in shared spaces. Masks are required (even for fully vaccinated people) on planes, cruise ships, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports, seaports, and train and subway stations. If a conveyance has outdoor areas, wearing a mask is not required while outdoors."

Wouldn’t jump to conclusions just yet. The guidance of the CSO has not been changed. It still gives cruise lines discretion on fully vaxxed cruises to lift masking requirements or requirements in vaxx only segregated venues as per the May 26th update.  Masks are still required by the CSO for mixed cruises or mixed venues.  They have not yet updated or walked back anything in the CSO technical guidance for cruise ships.

Carnival's policy is for their FIRST month only. July. Nothing has been stated any later. Their strategy is to 'test' cruise w/ paying customers. As cases continue to drop across the states, the CDC will be forced to drop some of these very tough, restrictive living arrangements. Soon enough, all sghips will be sailing under the same format. What amazes me are the folks claiming they are canceling their Dec or Jan cruises based on policy of the first cruises. I simply do not get it.

Carnival announced on Friday that their August cruises are vaccinated only as well.  It was the last piece of the graphic they posted on social media. So no, not just July.

You may not be going to GT.  The August Mardi Gras sailimgs that were going to go to GT are now going to.....Nassau.   Gives you more time to explore the ship (especially the new Serenity area)

Luckily it’s not til later in October on the Pride.  I saw an article from GT quoting their head of government saying he expected ships to be calling by October at the latest, so crossing my fingers.  We’ve never been there or HMC but we will roll with the itinerary changes. Heck this cruise is free and was paid for by the Sunrise hurricane cruise to no where FCC.

It has been a long time since i sailed on carnival.I am a diabetic and need to keep insulin cold. Thanks for your help

Call special needs dept and put in a request for a medical fridge. The ones in the room are glorified coolers on some ships

I'd speculate because Carnival is hoping Canada changes their mind before fall.

Or, if you want the cynical answer, because they want to keep holding your money.

    • 2021 season out of NYc on the Magic was cancelled back in the spring.

Legend was supposed to be in dry dock April 10-May 16, 2021. Did that actually happen? GoCCL doesn't have any details for the 2021 dry dock like it does for all of the previous ones. Legend was supposed to sail Europe this summer, and that was pulled a while ago, so I suspect Legend still needs dry dock work. If the original schedule was a month, that certainly would include painting the new livery.

I would expect Pride would get the call in Baltimore if Baltimore restarts before November just to salvage 5-8 weeks of sailings. That and the September 12 Pride sailing is the earliest available for booking.

There's also a Panama Canal partial transit sailing on October 31 to reposition it to Tampa. If it has to be delayed to November 1 due to the CSO, Carnival probably just drops Amber Cove or Grand Turk, which don't qualify as "distant" under the PVSA anyway. Doing one-way sailings to/from San Juan would also be a possible replacement.

Either way both ships need to recrewed for the fall.  The question is that repo cruise and what they do about it. Prices fell on it recently...so I wonder  if they’d consider canceling it. Interesting times...just something I’d thought about. Wouldn’t be the first dance of ships we’ve seen

  7. Trying to think as Carnival would....if Baltimore does restart in September, does anyone have a suspicion that they’d swap the Legend in early? Does it make sense to run the Pride for 6-8 weeks out of Baltimore before moving it to Florida?  Or would they just bring in the Legend for the restart and move those of us booked (we are for Oct) over to Legend?
I don’t think Legend has anything before Baltimore in November. I’m not sure where it was supposed to be before that...was it Europe?

I think it's not easy finding vaccinated crew. The start up might be slower than planned. Sept out of calif might or might not be. Carnival only announced 4 ships so far, I expect mardi gras next.

They seem to be running crew into shore a few hundred at a time to get vaccinated.  Still slow imo.

Vista has a CD who boarded last week on the plus side... .progress and  news is slow.

I was a watching a crew blog from RCCL. They said RCCL would take care of getting them vaccinated after their met their 14 day quarantine when they arrived on ship. I'm sure many are coming to their contracts with no vaccine.  Seems like the cruise lines are taking care of the crew with their port partners.

I will infer that when you check out you're  going to then park at the port.   The web site I mentioned offers stay, park and sometimes free shuttle to ship.  This way you don't  need to pay for ship side parking for 7 days.

We've looked at them before but prefer parking at the port.  We actually need to go 95N back to NJ and love the ease of just popping right out of the lot and onto 95.  We really only stay over as we've had some bad experiences (not with cruises thankfully) where 95S has been shut down due to an accident and really threw off our itinerary. Just makes for less stress in the morning of the cruise. Don't want to miss the ship!   Usually we end up paying for our room with hotel points anyway, so we only incur the parking charge at the port.

Thanks For the advice, i would like to see Camden Yards and Ft mchenry...but if Baltimore is anything like St Louis, Its best to skip the tour and head for the ship!! Thanks Again

Camden Yards is neat to see as it's very easy to see in and see the field, etc from the sidewalk/concourse. It's unique in that way.  Ft McHenry was really cool...they do a really nice intro presentation in the visitors center about the anthem.   It's really your call and what your budget is and how much time you have.  We spent a weekend trip without a cruise doing just the Baltimore highlights.  Then again, we live a little over 2 hours away.   Upside to the airport hotels is that the only US Guinness brewery is a quick 5 min ride away 🙂

Speaking about Baltimore....Any hotel recomendeds for cruising out of the city...Is it better to stay at the Airport the night before or near Camden yards? Thanks

We're staying by the airport as we've explored Inner Harbor before and we're driving in the afternoon before the cruise and check out the next morning.  For one, hotel rates are cheaper out there and two, parking is free at those hotels for your overnight stay.  Any downtown hotel will charge you 30-35 a night at least for valet parking and some hotels down there are still not doing valet parking.  If you're flying in, only you can determine the Uber/cab ride worth to downtown and then out the port.  There's plenty of restaurants out by the airport hotels, some in walking distance depending on where you stay.

We've stayed at the Hilton BWI aiport before but this time we've booked the Hilton Garden Inn BWI. It was a super sale of like 76 dollars a night and the reviews look good on trip advisor

A few weeks ago someone posted a cut-and-paste communication piece from Carnival that said all repositioning cruises for 2021 were canceled.  But at that time, just like now, the cruise is still able to be booked.  We looked at that cruise and we were tempted but ultimately agreed we can't be away from the animals for 14 consecutive days.

We just have to acknowledge that things are evolving daily and hope for the best.  We're on the Pride's last Baltimore R/T cruise, October 24 and I feel fairly confident it will sail just based on all the developments we've all been following here on cruisecritic and elsewhere.  Hope to wave to you as we disembark on Halloween.  😁

Check out the Mardi Gras before booking!  I would cruise on her ASAP but I always wait for a great deal.

We’re on the one before you and are optimistic things will be up and running for the Pride for September/October.  I just hope they don’t just skip her fall season and have her go right to Florida

Oasis out of Bayonne got pulled through August.  That's the 4th cruise that has been cancelled on me.

I saw the Bayonne cancellation coming as they’ve always all said Florida restarting first. I’m in NJ and sail both RCL and Carnival and follow both. I didn’t think we’d see the northeast ports open (and I lump Baltimore in with that) until September. I’m hoping my Pride cruise end of October goes at this point.

Exactly! Masks, social distancing, tests, more tests, heath checks, temp checks, restricted port access, no sitting at the bar, no shows, eating a sacked lunch outside etc etc etc. No thanks, that's not a product I want to pay for, wouldn't even cruise for free under those conditions. Not even sure why the lines would even waste time with such a pointless endeavor. Fiscally imprudent to say the least.

This is exactly what I was thinking when I saw Royals statement. Will they make those “other protocols to be announced” for the unvaxxed so unattractive that will turn people off?  Bc I’ve read the suggested cdc list condoning separate venues, ships only excursions, masks, tests, etc.

I have to gather that’s what Christine Duffy is referring to when she said right now we can’t deliver the product we want....aka they’d make everyone wear masks, excursion restrictions, distancing, etc.  Not really a Fun ship cruise.

Sorry about that, if it is the case.  I am sure this is very disappointing.  Did the Carnival person say if it is just temporary?

Assuming temporary due to covid risk and the age of typical Cunard passengers. If you look up the Cunard policy, it explains that they will be maxing out their medical center with oxygen for emergencies and don’t have the space to carry extra for passenger support. Same with any kind of mechanical ventilation or concentrator other than CPAP users.  Cunard stated they are reserving ventilation support and oxygen on board for true medical emergencies...basically saying they don’t want to support those with existing issues if their own supplies fail.

Although the Breeze, Vista, and Horizon were initially excluded from this letter, we have now received one also.

We are booked on the the Breeze's first sailing (July 15h/Galveston) and just received an email yesterday, subject line, "Final Payment Extension for July and August 2021 Sailings, Carnival Breeze, Carnival Vista, and Carnival Horizon departures."  Original payment due date, May 31st, now extended to June 14th.

I'm trying to stay positive, but we have been down this road before, and the cruises ended up being cancelled following this notification.

I’m going to hope that delaying final payment has to do with them finally announcing protocols for sailing by the 31st as they’ve stated. It would give people two weeks to decide if they still want to sail under those protocols or if certain ages may be required to be vaccinated. Why take payment and have to turn right around and give refunds.
