  1. We are planning a cruise on Carnival to the bahamas. We don't really want to take a snorkeling excursion. So I have 2 questions. 1) Can you recommend a beach where you can go and pay a small fee, and just enjoy the beach. and 2) is there a place either on the ship or at the beach to rent snorkels or can/should you bring your own?

    Thanks for any help!

  2. If only they do develop a manual for walker users so they don't almost run down the professional keeners and moaners. Almost doesn't count. They should be able to easily take their target down quickly and quietly!

LOL gotta love it! Thanks for the laugh, I needed that today! It's 583 days before my next cruise, so I am living vicariously through others on the boards til then. I absolutely agree though. Your vacation is what you make of it!

  3. I'm sorry to hear that. Amazon has a waterproof leg cast protector that you can buy. It's really hard to be non weight bearing so maybe you can ask your doctor to prescribe you a knee walker and he has plenty of time to practice. Good luck!

I broke my ankle in December and had to be non weight bearing for 6 weeks. Crutches were not an option for me (too much of a clutz) so the knee walker was a God send. I know that doesn't answer the shower problem, but it might make it a lot easier for him to get around on the ship as an alternative to crutches. If you can't get insurance to cover it, search online, you can find a ton of the for sale used and fairly cheap. OR you can rent them by the month as well, which is what I did for $50 a month. As mentioned above you can get a waterproof cast protector and use that if you can find something to set in the shower for him to rest his knee on, that might work.

Try not to stress, this too shall pass. Go and have a good time!!

  4. LOL! I am sure some of my issue is anxiety! I am a single Mom, with a booming business, a large home with no help there and an active social life. And on top of that, you would think someone that just spent the last few years in chemo off and on and would know how to slow down and nap! BUT NOT ME! But really THAT isn't the question....

I am sure that SOME of it is having cruised enough to be at top tier status, which isn't important to me, but tells you at least how many days at sea I have..... but also that I think it may be the lack of changing the events up and making them not the same as they were 10 years ago! I love to take newbies and truly enjoy watching them experience it the first time. If you look back at Fun Times from two years ago it is almost the same as today or even 5 years ago! Try it!

My question was just out of curiosity as to how everyone else can unwind and find that happy medium.

I am interested as well. I also LOVE to take newbies because it's almost like experiencing it yourself for the first time again through their eyes. And every cruise I vow to slow things down, not try and do EVERYTHING and rush from here to there, but it never works. I always end up wanting to cram in as much as possible every time! lol

  5. Boarding time depends on many factors, but once boarding begins, you will be called to board behind wedding parties, Platinum and Diamond, then you. So you will be one of the first to board, but what time depends on how fast the ship is cleaned, if there was a delay getting into port, when the ship is cleared, etc.

Your room should be ready when you board, if your itinerary has a port, or ports, that have a tender, you will get priority tender to the port, but not from. You will also have a separate line at GS in case you need to visit them. Last, you have your choice of debarkation..

Your luggage (if you don't carry your own on) should be expressed to your cabin faster as well. We bought it on our last cruise and the option of being able to go directly to our cabin on boarding and not having to wait, plus the dedicated line at GS was well worth the price to me.

  6. I was looking over the menus in the MDR for our upcoming cruise and there are several nights that the selection is not that great but my FAV desert is served that night. My question is, if we were to choose to go to the buffet for dinner instead of the MDR, do they offer the same desserts as the MDR; mainly the crème brulee and bitter & blanc?

Go to the buffet a little earlier for dinner, then head to the MDR for dessert. :D

  7. All you really ever need from room service is a BLT and the chocolate cake. Oh, that chocolate cake is absolutely heavenly. Those remain free so I am happy as can be. :)

I have a weakness for chicken tenders, I am like a 5 year old boy that way. I will try not to spend $5 on those but if I am drunk I can't make any promises. lol

My thoughts exactly. Those two items are a MUST on every cruise!

  8. You're very welcome! Enjoy. I'm a fan of the card (which will be pretty obvious after you read a few of my many posts on the subject:o). The way I use it has gotten me several thousands of $$$ back (statement credits) in just 11 years. It's been totally Free Cruising Money:D - I've never paid a penny in fees or interest. ...I only wish I had switched over from using my debit card for everything to a rewards card like this years before I did.

I am so excited! I just got an email from Carnival today inviting me to apply, so I did and was approved. I will be using it on my next cruise, that's for sure!

  9. Seroiusly, they took my drink coupon away to buy time for that commercial?

I don't think that inspired ppl to cruise. It was boring.

My thoughts exactly. It was beautiful scenery, but boring. And I, for one, did NOT COME from the sea. Sorry Carnival. I much preferred your much older commercials showing the daughter who sees a totally different "vacation Dad" letting loose and having fun.

  10. This is what I suggest. I am turning GOLD on the last day of our upcoming cruise yet the cruise docs have me as GOLD :D

I just checked. Mine is showing me as gold now too. I turn Gold the 2nd day after we sail. :D

  11. I will! I emailed him with no response. I did send John Heald a message on face book also. Someone replied and asked me to repost my request to John on Feb 4th, so I will do that. I feel certain we will get our request for a table for 5. I will let you know how the MDR was though when we get back.

  12. My dearest and I will be cruisin' on the Magic Feb 8th - 14th. I am a first time cruiser. I will share my experience upon return. I appreciate all the people that contribute to these forums. AS I see the glass as always half full you will expect to see more of the good and very little if any of the bad. It's like going to Disney World and only experiencing the que wait. That's not how we roll. I'm of the opinion that the grass is greenest underfoot.

This will be my first time on the Magic, but have been on Carnival 4 times previously, and 2 on NCL before that. IMO Carnival beats NCL hands down for fun. But just a warning. This being your first cruise.......it IS addicting! lol

We are on the same sailing as you! Have a great cruise!

  13. EXACTLY!!! I am always on the hunt for that elusive 24 carat gold piece of ship on a stick! I need to know what time trivia and that stuff starts so I can continue the hunt! I have a watch that is in my "Cruise bag," along with that damn battery-operated alarm clock.

Me too! I am on a mission in 2 weeks to bring home a ship on a stick this time! Do or Die! lol

  14. i enjoy not having to look at clocks while onboard, we use the wake up calls for getting up if we have to get up early.

How do you know when to be somewhere for some specific activity without a clock? I normally do not wear a watch, but I always buy a cheap one just for a cruise. I want to make sure I am where I need to be for the things I want to do. I don't worry about it for getting up in the morning. Just activities during the day and making sure I am back on the ship on time!

  15. Thanks! That helps. We are staying in Galveston the night before, so we'll be up having a free breakfast at the hotel and ready to head to the pier ASAP. So I think we'll probably set our goal for arriving at the pier about 10:00 AM and see what happens! We are on the Magic too, on 2-8-15. Have a wonderful cruise!

    :D

  16. You just go to the pier and check in and tell them he is sick he can't make it. At that point nothing will change you just won't get him money back. Your rate won't change. I see this all the time when I am working.

I have a similar situation, in that we booked 3 to a cabin, one being my daughter's boyfriend who now will not be traveling with us. I did not want to cancel him because I did not want them to bump us possibly to another cabin because there are now only 2 of us. So if, when we check in, we just tell them he is not able to make it, then will I be refunded his port fees and taxes? I know we will not get his fare back, and that is ok. But since it was all paid on my card, will they refund the port fees and taxes to me later or will I get them as OBC immediately?

  17. What is the absolute EARLIEST anyone has boarded in Galveston? If we head to the parking lot at 9:30 and arrive at the terminal by 10, do you think we'll be able to get on shortly after? We do have FTTF too if that makes any difference?

  18. What all is included in the $15 price for dinner at the Cucina del Capitano? I realize alcohol and specialty coffees etc. are regular bar prices. But does the $15 include appetizer, main course and dessert?

On a side note, anyone who has eaten there in the evening......did you like it? Was it worth the extra $?

    Thanks!
