  1. Just to let you have an update : 45 days out and I am now officially ticketed.

Thanks to all of you that helped me understand the process and the majority who were so kind in explaining so patiently to a nervous novice like me.

    Happy travels!

Since you have until 45 days out to make changes/cancellations, it makes sense that they won't actually ticket you until that deadline has passed.

  2. A few years ago we were upgraded from an oceanview to a balcony on 14 (I believe). We didn't really want to be that high, so I called and was able to move our upgraded balcony to one on Caribe with the larger balcony because it was the same category as the one on 14. That was very nice. We love the upgrade fairy.

On our last cruise we got an upsell offer that we accepted. That was an expensive upsell in the long run since we now prefer the mini-suites, but I think that's Princess' goal! :p

  3. As one that has been involved in sales for over 30 years, I can say that people value things that cost something even if it is a small amount more than free stuff.

A good example is a free ticket to an event, half of the people won't even bother to show up, but charge even a minimal amount and that changes completely. This is a case of perceived value at work to some degree.

If you order a drink at the regular price, you will always take the second one if it is free, however, i wonder just how many of those are unfinished and dumped out? If you charge $1 for it, many people will take a moment to decide if they really want or need it before taking it. Of course for some it is still a no brainer!:p A drink on a cruise ship for only a dollar?!! Of course I will take one!:D

    Just my thoughts,

    Dixon

I agree with your assessment of perceived value. This $1 charge might cut down on waste.

  4. We were able to get the promo on our Baltic cruise next June, with no increase in cruise price. We don't usually drink that much, so we might just take the $200 (each) OBC instead. Then again, it's nice to have the option to have a drink or two a day without thinking about the bill!

Does anyone know if you can get wine by the glass in the MDR? We've never tried that before, but it would be nice to do that with the package.

  5. It doesn't really matter - I was just curious why on a new ship there would be that notation when I looked at deck plans. It makes sense that the changes are some adjustments to the categories of cabins effective April 17. Thanks for the answer.

  6. I couldn't find a thread discussing this. Why does it matter whether you are sailing before or after April 17, 2016 when you are looking at the Regal deck plan? Are they planning changes already? I suppose I could go back and forth between the two plans, but that would take a long time and I'm hoping someone knows the answer.

    Thanks.

  7. Does your mug have a handle? Can you share a picture of it? Trying to decide if I want to bring one of hubby's old mugs (he likes one with a handle) or wait and get him a souvenir?

Wondering if anyone is getting one free with the coffee card?

Sorry, I don't have a photo, but the insulated Princess coffee cup doesn't have a handle. It's more like a tall insulated metal glass with a lid.

  8. We pay nothing for a 10 day and a 15 day cruise for two in a suite. We have already booked the first cruise. No bill. Nada. :D

OK! Now I see what all the fuss is about. You have hit the lottery!! Congratulations! I don't know how Princess can give you 2 free cruises in a suite AND a full refund as an OBC, but I'd take that offer in a heartbeat.

  9. I check on my cruises all the time...it is easier on Princess than most lines because Princess' website shows all of the UNASSIGNED cabins...What I do is a dummy booking, then counting category by category, section by section deck by deck...Much easier to do toward the end when there aren't many cabins left...

But, realize I said unassigned...not unsold...

Princess books a lot of unassigned bookings..."to be assigned prior to sailing"...

So, there are really a lot less "unsold" then show as "unassigned"...

Thanks Steve. I believe it was a post of yours that I remember. Thanks for explaining how you come to your numbers.

  10. If the 8 people are your whole group and you have similar eating styles, I'd say you can probably have a speedy meal, especially if you let your waiters know you want to move along quickly. There are many variables, such as how many courses each person orders, how long they take to eat, any special requests, etc. But our experience has been that if you are ready to order quickly, your order gets put in right away and comes to you pretty quickly. We are usually at tables of 8 and I've noticed that other tables (usually smaller I admit) are leaving while we're just finishing our entree. But sometimes someone at our table will order 3 starters, which can slow things down since the waiters won't bring the entrees to the table until everyone has finished their starters.

  11. I think it might be free altogether now, not just today - based on a response to a reviewer. However, I didn't want to take a chance so I downloaded it to my iPhone and Samsung tablet. This will come in handy for our upcoming South America cruise. Thanks for posting!

  12. A word of caution first, the 6:00 early traditional dining usually is 5:30 or perhaps 5:45, depending on the ship.

Our experience has been that the 6:00 pm dining is at 6:00 pm, but there may be an additional earlier seating (in a different restaurant obviously) at 5:30 pm. or 5:45 pm. Your cruise reservation will tell you the time you have reserved.

To the OP, Is the later seating (around 8:15 or 8:30) too late for you? That might be an option.
