  1. I'm guessing that you are thinking the others at the two tops might have wanted a private meal. That may be the case, and hopefully they could let the "talkers" know, in a polite way, that they prefer to keep to themselves. It is rather difficult to do, though, since the tables are so close together.

  2. We prefer a table for 6 or 8. Any larger than that and it's impossible to speak with people as the table is too big. A table for 4 seems very "iffy" as you could end up with people you don't care for (or you could be the people the other couple doesn't care for!). We had TD at a table for 6 going to Alaska and it was fine. Our last cruise we had a table for 8 but one couple never showed up and another moved after the first night as they were part of a larger group that had ended up being seated separately for some reason so we actually had a large table with only 4 of us eating each night. As it turned out the other couple were very nice so there was no problem for us.

We don't really need a table for two. We've been married for a very long time and have had a bazillion dinners for two. :)

Couldn't agree with you more. Part of the fun of cruising for us is meeting people. Knock wood, we've never had awful table mates. We always request a table of 6-8 for TD. One time we were at a 4 top and the other couple moved, as in your case, to join the rest of their group. We went the rest of the week with just us at the table and, as much as I love my husband, I spend most of every day with him and neither of us talk just to hear ourselves, so the dinners were very quiet. We've had some breakfasts or lunches in the MDR with people who would have been very difficult to have dinner with every night, so I know it can happen. I don't think we'd hesitate to request a move if we felt the need.

If it's the Crown' date=' you're returning on the 21st, as Pam stated above.

It's possible that not all the ships are listed yet.[/quote']

We are returning on the Ruby on March 21 and our itinerary says we will be in San Pedro, but that isn't what this calendar says. Interesting. Hope they can put two ships there.

We considered the exact same flights as the OP and we decided to book the earlier flight to Portland from Long Beach. We just couldn't imagine having to sit around LAX for 7 or 8 hours waiting for our flight. It's a smaller airport, closer than LAX and we're confident we can get there in time if we do the "carry our luggage" thing. We'll just take a taxi which should be about the same or a little more for the 2 of us as Super Shuttle but we won't have to worry about the shuttle not being there. We've had a bad experience with them before.

  4. We ALWAYS go willingly to the drill and listen to every word. On our first cruise in 1996 on the old Golden Princess we had a fire on the second morning while we were having breakfast. Since we had paid attention to the drill, we knew what the 7 bells meant; we knew to walk back to our cabin, collect the life jackets, warm coats and medicines, and proceed to our muster station which was one of the restaurants. Our kids were not in their cabin so we were confident that they had also gone to the muster station. (I will admit that I was quite relieved to see them at our table when we got there.) Everything was very orderly and we waited for a couple of hours at our station until they had everything under control. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the fire destroyed an engine so we had to be towed into Victoria. Quite an experience. I've always been one to take safety seriously and it paid off. For those who think these drills are a pain in the neck and choose to ignore them - get ready to be pushed aside by me if you don't know what to do or where to go in an emergency.

  5. Seriously? (Not about toothpaste,) but was the sarcasm necessary?

I guess we all read things differently. I didn't think that was a sacrastic response. I thought it was a legitimate question.

  6. The images you attached seem to have two colors, inside, OV, balcony and mini-suite in black and then suite in red. My interpretation is the ones in red would get the perks and the others would not...

I believe you are correct. I've come across that before where the "Sale" (in red) only applies to the fares that are in red.

  7. We've had the regular coupon book in our cabin - I think everyone gets this and it has always been useless to us. The only one we ever used was given by our TA, I believe, and it used to have the 2-for-1 coffee card (no longer included) and the 2-for-1 on the slot tournament entry fee. That was the only coupon I used!

  8. Our next two cruises have prepaid gratuities and I just checked with Princess to make sure that showed up on our reservations and it did, but I will still check it again as soon as we board.

We have prepaid gratuities on a cruise in March, but I don't see it on the Cruise Personalizer, only from the confirmation from the TA. Did you see it on your account, or did you call Princess to verify the credit?

  9. We have just put down a deposit on the 49 day Baltic cruise in March 2016. Our full payment is due in December 2014. Our TA quoted travel insurance from his agency (using CSA) as $3,115 and insurance from Viking (with Travel Guard) as $2,438. That's quite a difference, but the Viking has to be paid with full payment, which is stupid since, as others have pointed out, the penalties don't even begin until December 2015. I'll do more research, but I'd much rather wait and purchase the insurance when we make final payment.
