  1. Hi My wife and i are cruising on the sillouette from southampton  in july for 12 days we have onboard credit . At the moment we have the  classic drinks package but have an option on cruise planner to upgrade to  premium for 18.88 british pounds   pp per day.

We are also entitled to a 5 % discount as captains club members on drinks packages however am i correct in saying we are as well waiting till on  the ship to do the upgrade and this discount could then be added, whereas if we did it now on cruise planner no discount would come off. Probably only talking about £ 20+ saving but as well in our account to use for for other offers.

  2. Wife and I on our cruise on Silhouette in July have anytime dining. None of the times on the app suit us, either too early or too late. We prefer  to eat between 19:30 and 20:00 every night at a table for 2 . What would be the advice regarding what time to turn up at restaurant every night. Would 7 pm be a good guess and collect a bleeper. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a programmatic response, if it changed by 10 mins.  If it is now 10 mins later, I’d just show up at the original time.  Who knows if it is correct?

Screenshot your 1st night reservation on the App.

My DMW says guests or travel companions on the App.  There are 2 of us. They’re covering all bases.  🙄

This is on the Sky Princess from Southampton on sat so quite late to let you know, don't know if it's anything to do with the refurb and the other restaurant they are adding but you wouldn't think 10 mins would make much difference?

Is there a reason you are splitting amongst 3 MDRs?  I think the advantage of sticking to a single MDR is the likelihood you will be recognized by the staff and treated with just a little more personal service.  There are those among us here who long for the days of traditional dining.  If you are one of those, you may find the experience more to your liking if you return to the same dining room night after night.

We had the same headwaiter each night and got to know him pretty well, and vice versa,  We did not see the same server every night but when we did get a repeat, he remembered us from a couple nights earlier. Being served by the same staff just makes for a smoother experience, like knowing not to put butter on my bread plate or remembering that my wife drinks cabernet so that a drink reorder took a few seconds less.

And as several others have pointed out, you may be able to secure the same table and server for the entire cruise which elevates the experience just that much more. Part of the pleasure of cruising is being treated as if you are much more important than you might be in real life. This helps with that.

Of course, none of this might matter to you. But if it does, something to consider.

Doesn't matter to us we have been on 20+ cruises, we just like to try each place that's available

  5. Hi everyone my wife and I are on a princess cruise in May from Southampton

First time with Princess so this medallion and app are new to us . We have filled all our details on the  princess app and have reserved a time each night splitting between the 3 main restaurants. We have a private table marked against it so does that mean it's a table for 2 which is what we are looking for and are we guaranteed that without a wait or is it a case that we will prob have to wait for a table for 2 despite reserving it. It's my wife's birthday one of the nights and we haven't reserved anything for that night and as we have cruise credit will prob use this however it wants to take it off our credit card  if we reserve in advance ,so we have just left it for the moment. Sorry if the answers to this are on this post but it's 69 pages long and didn't want to trawl through it😊

  6. Apologies i havent read every post on this thread but my wife and i are booked on the Celebrity Sillouette  in Aug 2023 ( scandinavia cruise) we have  $850 (£714) onboard credit to use

Can anyone advise if you can use it towards .Excursions, speciality dining or .upgrade our drinks package to premium with our onboard spend at the moment when they are offering there sale prices, or do you need to wait till after embarkation before you can use your OBC.

  7. My wife and i have booked a cruise next May from Southampton on Sky Princess. I have managed to reserve tables for 6 of the 7 nights on the app at the three main restaurants so twice at each of them. (Is this the correct thing to do) On the other night we will prob go to one of the speciality restaurants to celebrate my wifes birthday ( any reccomendations appreciated) 19:30 each night, we would prefer later but a later time option isnt there. Also we prefer a table for 2 each evening but although it does say private dining im still not sure if this is for 2 or sharing a table ?. Can anyone please advise.

  8. My wife and both in our late 60's I did our first silversea cruise 10 days Athens- Athens in May on Spirit we have previously done 20 + cruises on various other cruise lines. Overall we enjoyed it most nights meal was lovely, short of some wines my wife preferred and not quite the choice of rums for me that I have seen on other ships. Our butler and cabin maid were good but we never asked for anything extra anyway. Excursions were good and well organised. What did strike us was a distinct lack of atmosphere at nights especially on the ship, where a few would sit and listen to the lady pianist or the jazz band. At 10 pm we went and watched the show that was on but only about 40 /50 bothered turning up each night.About a  mad dozen would then make there way up to the disco! up the top.😊  We knew it would be nothing like a bigger ship but were surprised how very low key it is. After the long day trip into Jerusalem half the ship seemed to dissapear for 2 days.! Still debating if we would do it again or not, price and intinary will decide.

    Day 3

After breakfast we did take the tender to town a short 10-minute boat ride.  After a 1 hour walk around town we were back on the tender to the ship. The town was very nice, clean and friendly people.

There are 498 passengers on board so pretty full. We looked at the MDR for lunch but nothing exciting, we decided on the classic burger around the pool with champagne, what else! There was only about 30 people on the pool deck only four eating at 1pm very quiet.

Quiet afternoon catching up on some much need sleep after the trauma of being ill, now back to something like normal.

Tonight, we ate at hot rocks by the pool. For those that have never tried it the concept is that when you arrive there is a very hot lava stone on the table, you order your food as normal and is presented to you raw, the idea is that you cook it yourself.

Now then, some people say “why would you come on a cruise and cook it yourself” Well, there is a point there however, the chef will cook it all for you if you prefer, once the long bib is around your neck away you go, we think its good fun, the steaks are huge as are the king prawns.

3 years ago on a cruise I tried this the night before we were due to arrive in Hong Kong where we had a 3 day stay before flying home somehow it wasnt a success and the best way to describe it is I ate nothing for my full stay in Hong Kong . Needless to say when I tried it on Silver Spirit in May this year I declined to try it again and allowed the chefs to take over🤣

  10. Just in case it hasnt been mentioned on here or your ship is not privy to this information I see ships  Aid Astella , Seven Seas Splendour, Spirit of Adventure are docked that week in this Area. The city of seville will be taken over by fans from Scotland and Germany who compete in a European football final. Estimates are there will be well over 100,000 fans descending on Seville. Enter  at your peril 😃

  11. Going on my first SS cruise next week . I am planning on taking a grey suit with a shirt and tie for formal nights I take it a dark suit is only a reccomendation and a lighter suit will be fine?

  12. I have never sailed with SS before so not sure how they compensate if at all for a cancelled tour. We have missed out on  a tour in Haifa if I remember correctly (as part of the package deal we booked) as we were originally meant to dock there for 2 days, now it's only 1 day. What about an offer to a free meal in one of the speciality restaurants or even a tour of Athens before our late flight home ( 6pm)on disembarkation day. Or I'm I being a bit to optomistic 😄

My partner and I are also on the 02 May Cruise: looking forward to it.  We did a cruise on the Silver Moon this past August and the good news is that Silversea and the port agents in Athens were much more organized than the documentation suggests; even then, when everyone needed a pre-cruise at pier antigen test, boarding was effortless for the +/- 400 passengers on that sailing.  We were tested, evaluated, checked in, and on the ship within 30 minutes.  One word of advise, do NOT get to the pier before 200PM: you will not  be let into the terminal areas, there is no place to wait outside and you will be send away - timing is taken seriously.

    Here is some inside info.

    • There will be pier side testing available.  And most hotels in Athens are offering testing at Euro 30.00 per person.  It is probably best and faster to spend the money and get the testing done before hand; you will then be able to board quickly and "cut to the front of the line."
    • The ship, at this moment, is not fully booked.
    • Re Ashdod on 08 May: still unclear exactly how that will work.  All pax will need a PCR test upon arrival in Israel; if the test is done after docking in Ashdod, it will take about 2 hours to test everyone then another 4 hours or so for the tests to be processed and results transmitted.  The ship will clear upon receipt of the results: docking is scheduled for 800AM so it is possible that we may be able to leave the ship between 200PM and 300PM.  We could get to Ashdod earlier  in the morning to accelerate the process.  We could be tested on the sea day prior to arrival into Ashdod with results being turned over to the labs/authorities upon arrival  which would save a lot of time.  Or something else could happen.  I am sure that we will hear more on board - my partner and I are hoping to take a taxi from the port to Tel Aviv (45 minute ride) mid-afternoon with the operative word being "hope".  There may or may not be shore excursions offered on this day - this will be handled on board.  Other ships have been operating shore excursions by 200PM (and those are bigger ships) on the arrival day into Israel.
    • Restaurants for this voyage are busy - especially La Dame and Silver Note which seem to be on a wait list only basis on most evenings;  reservations are probably a good idea at this point.  It may be possible to make choices on board but be prepared to be very flexible.
    • Curiously, tours at the island stops are quite busy while tours is Ashdod and Haifa remain very available - that does not make sense.  It could have to do with how the 08 May (first day Ashdod) situation works out.

Looking forward to another Silversea journey and everyone travel safe - see you in Athens.

    regarding Ashdod port

    Dear Esteemed Guest,

We look forward to welcoming you aboard Silver Spirit for your upcoming voyage. We are writing today with an itinerary update regarding calls in Israel.

We are happy to announce that Ashdod will re-open to cruise ships in time for your voyage (the port has recently been closed). Accordingly, we have amended the itinerary to now include an overnight in Ashdod on Sunday 8 May for country-mandated COVID-19 PCR testing (guests are not permitted ashore on this day). A late-night departure on Monday 9 May allows for a full day of shoreside discovery in Ashdod. To accommodate this change, Silver Spirit will no longer have an overnight in Haifa, but will enjoy a day of exploration on Tuesday 10 May.

Please note, all shore excursion reservations affected by this itinerary change will be automatically cancelled and/or rescheduled in the coming days. Please visit your MySilversea account to review/confirm your options from Ashdod on 9 May and from Haifa on 10 May
  14. Just had ours confirmed by TA as well for this cruise that we will be tested at port. Still not sure whether we will be allowed to leave ship at Ashod or not for definite due to the troubles there, anyone else know if other ships are docking there at present and allowed to do tours of Jerusalem?

  15. Yes finally got ours emailed today.

Still confused by there guidelines regarding pre boarding covid tests?

My wife and I have had both jags plus a booster but not sure what category we come under?Fully vaccinated guests take a test 2 days before if you can or if not you can  at pier till may 31st

Or up to date guests have 3 days before cruise to take a test but complimentary is only available up to April 31st.? I am hoping we are under fully vaccinated but will probably have to wait at pier to get tested if that's the case.
