  1. If you check guest notes on your confirmation, I've never seen the booking type specifically identified, but always the Terms and Conditions for that booking type, which you have to go back to the web page to "match-up" (there's a page on the site that lists all the current bookings and their T&C). Military and Past Guest are pretty obvious, Early Saver will have terms like "non-refundable deposit" etc.

With Early Saver you can get any price drop that you're eligible for (past guest, military.....) for same cruise, date, cabin category.

Be aware that the FareViewer does not display Military rates.

  2. What happens if I decide to change the date on my sailing? It is a more expensive date and I will be adding another room. Do they transfer my existing deposit or do I loose it? I also already purchased the FTTF program. Is that refundable/transferrable?

Booked ES, I think you'll find that your deposit (less $50pp penalty) will be held toward CruiseFare for a future cruise and you'll have to pony up the deposit -- you'll want to call your booking agent to confirm this. Ken

  3. We buy insurance typically the day we book the cruise. As far as Carnival being the most expensive, it really depends on ones age. My DH and I are seniors so it is less expensive for us to buy Carnival insurance than from other companies found on Insure my trip. .

As you become older and older, the Cruiseline's premium becomes less than that of the 3rd party insurers, but you're stick with the (IMO) totally inadequate CruiseLine Medical coverage and the marginal MedEvac coverage. Ken

  4. I made the assumption that the insurance would kick in immediately if you had an accident or became ill, In fact Carnival insurance is secondary and you have to submit claims to be reimbursed! If you need Medvac'd from a port back to the states, you had better have the financial wherewithal to be able to do that. ......

Actually, the MedEvac is coordinated between the Insurance and the MedEvac provider - you don't have to upfront this expense. Ken

  5. A friend of ours fell on Lido on the Breeze this past spring, it happened in the waters outside of Jamaica. They were scrubbing the deck in the evening and did not have wet floor signs out. The medical staff stabilized his shoulder and arm gave him pain meds and he waited until returning to US to continue treatment. The travel insurance will not cover his surgery or any other cost because it was done after he returned home. Carnival did remove all medical cost from his S&S only after his wife had numerous "discussions". He has been in communication with Carnival but their offer to settle was an 1/8 of his medical bills so far. He has hired a lawyer but his lawyer had to hire a Jamaican lawyer because that is where it occurred. It has been a mess to say the least. I have travel insurance that we pay a yearly premium on but this case has certainly enlightened me.

For others -- Another criteria to watch for when purchasing Travel Insurance is whether the Medical covers only expenses during the trip or whether the medical has "continuing coverage" usually for 6 - 12 months after the trip. I believe Carnival's insurance is actually 51 weeks. Ken

  6. I looked at my original invoice, it doesn't say, I booked it myself. Lat year when we waited until about now the ship was full for Christmas week so we did a 7 day on NCL and thought the service was so bad, so this year we booked early and that came back to bite us in the butt....

On your Guest Confirmation document, toward the end under GUEST NOTES you might be lucky and see the Booking type, but more likely you'll see the Terms and Conditions of your booking, which you have to compare to the T & C for the various bookings to see what you booked. This is really lame. If you copy and paste your Terms & Conditions to a post, maybe we can figure out your booking.

If you go to MY CRUISE MANAGER for your booking you should see in several places the "Balance Due By....." -- that should be your so-called Final Payment Due Date - what does it show? If you pay early, prior to this Final Payment DATE you are still entitled to cancel and such - you might have to argue this with a few reps or ask for a supervisor.

The T&C for various current Booking types are at http://www.carnival.com/legal/specials-terms-conditions.aspx

  7. You can add most 3rd party Policies almost up to sailaway - if you purchase them within 14-21 days of booking you can get "waiver of pre-existing conditions". It's not clear from the Policy wording that Carnival will sell you their insurance this late, but the 3rd party policies are generally lower cost and higher coverage. ken

  8. I am new to this forum but am looking for photos and video that would have been taken on the Carnival Conquest from the 11th to the 19th of October. My friend lost her camera and all of her photos. I feel so bad for her and would like to find some photos that might have been taken on their excursion. We were there as well and have some photos but weren't with her on the Zip line and cave tubing. We missed getting the video from the ship as well. Just forgot. They said it is no longer available. Thank you for any help you might have. Thank you! :)

You might see if the Roll Call for that cruise is still Active and post there? ken

  9. So finally after waiting almost 3 weeks for the claim to process I have received an email from Berkley saying that my claim was approved and I should receive a check in the mail within 10 business days for 1500 bucks. Still not the exact price of my laptop but definitely worth it. I'm extremely glad I purchased the vacation protection and from now on i will definitely do so.

Great news!!!! Glad this worked out for you! Thanks for the update on the final results. ken

  10. "Government Fees & Taxes" and pre-paid gratuities are unquestionably refunded and don't need to be included in your Trip Insurance coverage. I don't know where this is documented - I'd check the cancellation section of the Cruise Contract. ken

  11. We have a little set-up we bring onboard with a cork screw, wine stopper, and foil cutter in a baggie. I am usually the only one having a glass of wine with dinner and I have the rest later;) I have brought an open bottle with me to the dining room which staff placed in ice during the meal. I refuse to pay a corkage fee so this is a simple solution that I know many others use as well.

The "Corkage Fee" has nothing to do with them "opening" the wine bottle; it's the bringing of a bottle not purchased (in this case from Carnival). If you bring a bottle, open or not, to MDR or Steakhouse you May (or may not) be charged the corkage fee. some Dining Rooms reportedly require their servers to charge the fee others are lax. ken

  12. So, I ended up calling back about another cruise we are taking due to price drop on it and the lady I talked to this time also took a look at this one in November. She got us moved to a porthole room and we got the OBC! Score!:D

    SCORE! ken

  13. My husband and I are booked on the Fascination for 11/8. We booked an interior room and this morning I saw the past guest promotion so I did a mock booking to see what the price would be. I found a porthole room and $50 OBC and the price difference would be around $90. I called because I would like to have a porthole and was told that it is a downgrade. I'm confused...

    Are you booked Early Saver?

If NOT, then you normally cannot get fare adjustments after Final Payment.

If YES, you should be eligible for rate drops for your 4A category. I'm thinking the porthole is a lower category than your 4A category, and you're not allowed to downgrade with Early Saver.
