    Do: Research Ports in Advance

Don't: Ever Buy a "Beach Break" Shore Excursion

Do: Research Transport from Airport to Port

    Don't: Buy Ship Transports

'Beach Break" tip - totally true - my teens played volleyball at the beach we walked to... for free in Progresso with people that spent $30 to get a shuttle to the beach & 2 rum punches.

"Ship Transports" - I'd like to add a caveat to that - if you are running late or cutting it close with your flight, grab that shuttle. Our friends missed a flight connection and we ended up picking up their luggage at Houston Hobby before they landed at the other airport. As it happened there was a Carnival shuttle outside when they ran to get a cab. There was a wreck that closed off the highway to Galveston island and the shuttle driver was able to radio the ship to wait. They literally stepped on board as the boat was leaving and checked in at the pursers desk. If they had taken a cab...they would have missed the ship.

Of course the lesson they learned was, as tons of people on this board tell us, fly in the day before....but if you can't... I would concider that shuttle. (plus it helps to have nice friends that drove down to get your luggage )

  2. I emailed to ask if Carnival is going to offer Military specials again in May this year... and I got back a 'yes we will' :D

So give them a call in May.

I know they have done this the past 3/4yrs for sure.

Like some of the others have stated, since we are on file as military they usually call us to tell us about the specials.

  3. I know this doesnt help at the moment - but Carnival runs specials for Military & Retirees during the month of May. They give great discounts to service members and thier families at that time...so it is a great time to book your cruise for the upcoming seasons.

My DH is retired Army... my DS is in Reserves, having returned from Iraq a few months ago.

Many thanks and God Bless all who serve.

  4. Golden Princess Dec 06 - we were joined at the breakfast buffet the second day by an elderly couple in their bathrobes and jammies...looked like they had just roled out of bed and it was the most natural thing to go get breakfast without even brushing their hair.... it was all DH and i could do to not laugh outloud.

The next morning...there was a guy, about 30, at breakfast in nuttin' but his robe.... LOL

I guess instead of thinking it was hillarious the morning before....some people thought ''hey, good idea"
