Thank you. I did post it on the Disabled Forum. I also wanted to post here in case others that don't use that forum might have some information.

Good Evening,
I am a full-time manual folding wheelchair adult user and I'm considering taking this cruise next year with my parents (60's) for my 40th. I am wondering if anyone might be able to tell me the level of Accessibility in the following ports...
Alicante, Spain
Malaga, Spain
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain
Santa Cruz de La Palma, Spain
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Wanted to let everyone know the U.S. Coast Guard has ordered all South Florida ports closed until such time as the weather clears to allow safe passage for ships.

Be Safe Everyone!

The Coast Guard is closing Port Canaveral, Port Everglades and Port of Miami effective noon tomorrow until the conditions allow for ships to safely enter/leave.

Check with Mears transportation, they are the ones who actually run the Disney Magical Express if you are staying at a WDW resort and/or transportation to/from Port Canaveral. Depending on traffic the travel time to/from the Port to WDW is an hour to hour and half.

I appreciate everyone replying to my post.

I have always found RCCL very accessible. I have tendered in almost every port with out any problems. I have only been on a Freedom class of the two you are comparing. Cabin was very spacious Staff has always treated me very well. I use a manual wheelchair.

Hi,
I am a scooter user and have been on both cruise lines in accessible cabins on older and newer ships.
In my experience both cruise lines are very much of a muchness. The difference is that newer ships are more compliant with equality laws making them better for disabled travellers.
Hope this helps
Pete
Thank you Pete!

Have not been on Princess, but was just on Allure last month with my mom who uses a walker at home, but needs wheelchair assistance on/off the ship, and uses a scooter to get around when we're on cruises.
Our most recent trip was the first time we used wheelchair assistance to get on and off the ship and while it was a long wait, it was well worth it for my mom. It was practically VIP service. I was able to push her walker with our carry on bags while she got pushed in the wheel chair which made it easier for both of us. They swept us from outside the terminal, through security, to check in, and up to the gangway, and then we had to wait another 20 minutes or so for someone from the ship to come take us up the ramp, and they brought us right to the room.
Disembarking was also very easy, we waited at Starbucks for our number to be called at around 9:30AM, and they took us to grab our bags with a porter, and then straight to the curb.
Was so good for my mom not to have to stress over that. She used the walker on our cruise in November to get up the gangway and it was very difficult for her.
Thank you!

With that big ship you might consider renting a mobility scooter. It makes it so much easier for family members. They put the scooter in your room and you leave it there when your done. Well worth the price..................................RADICAL
Although I appreciate your suggestion RADICAL, I use a manual wheelchair full-time and have cruised on Royal Princess which is roughly the same length and deck height as the Oasis Class ships.

We were on Anthem in February with my mom, who uses a wheelchair once she leaves the cabin because she's too frail for all the walking a big ship entails, but can get up and out of it and doesn't use it in the cabin. We found all the public areas easily accessible with the wheelchair (including the casino, which is usually one of the toughest venues to get around). In addition, at CoCo Cay, we had no trouble getting a sand wheelchair so that we could take her to the beach.
Thank you Lizcourt. Is CoCo Cay a tender or docked port?

I have found both lines pretty equal. I had a small problem with Princess when ashore, but part of that was due to my not knowing that Princess does not have w/c assistance on some piers.
Royal usually always has some pier assistance always available. I would not hesitate to travel either line. Do reserve a handicapped cabin early. The go fast!
Most of all have a great time.:)
Aboat1, thank you for your reply. Yes, I generally book about a year out but have gotten one after final payment is due as well.
Which piers did you have trouble at with Princess? I've been all over the Caribbean and Alaska with them and have never not had assistance.

Hello, I'm an avid Princess cruiser who uses a manual wheelchair full-time. I am wanting to give RCCL a try, specifically Oasis or Freedom Class ships. Can anyone who has been on both lines let me know your thoughts on accessibility? Princess has always been great to me and ensures my accessibility needs are meet to include a spacious stateroom and assistance on/off the ship at ports without hesitation.
Thanks!
P.S. I have posted this on the Disabled Cruising page as well.

No, they don't have it
Ok, thank you.

Does anyone know if Crown has the same setup in Sabatinis? I'll be on in 3 weeks in Alaska. Thanks!

Actually, the ADA does not apply to air travel. The applicable law is The Air Carrier Access Act. Here is a pretty good summary of what it covers: http://www.disabilitytravel.com/airlines/air_carrier_act.htm
Actually both are applicable depending on where you are...ADA applies while you are in the Airport, ACAA applies onboard the aircraft.

I can say it is seriously lacking to DCL though. That is one thing I wish Princess would improve on
As good as DCL's website is for appearances, it's lacking on availability. Just like the other Disney sites, DCL's has lots of issues which has the Disney IT Dept making fixes constantly and various parts of the sites down consistently. I'll take the continuous availability of the Princess site any day. IMHO

I sailed on Emerald earlier this year while she was in Houston and felt it was a beautiful ship. Aside from the delayed departure due to fog (yet still made every port), I had no issues with the ship or any of the Staff. I can't wait to sail Emerald again!

On a Caribbean cruise back in mid January the Royal and Regal were in port on the same day when we disembarked the Regal. The Regal was at Pier 2, the Royal went to an alternate pier. I think the Regal may have priority, being the flagship of the Princess fleet.
Royal is actually the flagship for the fleet since she was the first ship in the largest class.
Which one is berthed at Terminal 2 generall depends on which comes in first.

Breakfast at Sabatini's and the free dinner at Crown Grill (or whichever specialty you prefer) the first night.

Yes, the ships are decorated, the Crew & Staff dress up along with many of the Passengers. At least one of the clubs has a great Halloween party. Great times for sure!

Good Afternoon,
I use a manual wheelchair full-time and will be traveling to Martinique, Curacao, Grenada and Bonaire at the end of the year. Does anyone have any experience at these ports? Thanks
