  1. There's also the brunch at which you get the tile.

If you're already a Mariner, there's relatively little point because in practice I think you can take him both to the embarkation lunch and the tile brunch with you. But it doesn't take long to get it sorted out, either.

We won't be aboard ship for the embarkation lunch, but I assume the brunch is on a sea day. If he doesn't need the recognition to attend, I won't bother.

Any idea what day the brunch would be--we only have two sea days on a 12 day cruise.

  2. I believe it is Royal Caribbean and Celebrity that give their customers recognition across the lines--but not the Carnival related ships or I would be up there due to Carnival/Princess/HAL sailings.

the only benefit I see in being a One-Star Mariner is the lunch in the dining room on embarcation day?

My husband is a Ruby Princess cruiser--should I get him a one-star mariner recognition for our upcoming cruise?

  3. The people in formal attire have declined over the years. I think due to two reasons: US attire is becoming more casual AND the fees for luggage.

My experience is that the people driving to port the women often wear beautiful long gowns--those of flying in--not so much.

I took one of my lovely long MOB dresses on one cruise--but won't on our Baltic cruise.

    Wear what you want--

  4. these are all great thank you all very much

The restaurant at Hotel Maya has excellent reviews. My husband has been there for business meals and my daughter with friends. Both have raved about the food.

    For excellent seafood, 555.

We like Cafe Sevilla, George's Greek, or King's Fish all on Pine Ave, north of Ocean Blvd.

  5. We live in SE Long Beach. My husband had a meeting in Wilmington on the first work day after the bridge closure.

He said all the surface streets were a mess! Very crowded with cars and trucks.

Follow the simple instructions above--going to port of Long Beach (Carnival) take the 710 (Long Beach Freeway).

Going to the port of Los Angeles (San Pedro, World Cruise Center, generally other lines other than Carnival, but there are some anomalies) take the 110 (Harbor Freeway).

  6. For pick up at the airport, I would use either SuperShuttle or Primetime. For any other company, you need to make a reservation.

For return from the port, depending on your flight, I would make a reservation--although they will be lined up for pick up those with reservations and those without.

  7. I am arrivig by cruise ship in san pedro on tue may 13 and need to find the cheapest way to get to this hotel to pick up my rental car. Any suggestions ?

You could take the bus as described above.

But I think a cab would be the best value regarding time/money.

  8. We are taking about $150 USD worth of Danish Crowns and $75 USD worth of Swedish Crowns. We have about 120 euros left from a previous trip. That with USD for tips for Alla Tours in St. Petersburg and Berlin and our ATM card (will call bank to notify it of out of US use), I believe we are set cash-wise.

We bank with Chase. To get foreign currency you have to ask in advance. Exchange fees seemed a little high, $150 USD bought $138 of DKK, but thought it had some value in not having to look for an ATM when we first arrived at the Copenhagen Airport.

  9. We are sailing on the Eurodam returning July 8, 2014. Our flight to Venice is on Norwegian Air leaves at 6:40 am. The Eurodam docks on the morning of July 7th. Is it possible we will be able to get a taxi from the cruise terminal to the airport to make the flight? How much time should we allow? Public transportation is not an option for us as my husband is limited in the distance he can walk.

Thanks for your prompt reply and your ongoing helpful information on everything Copenhagen.

You will have to carry your own luggage off the ship very early. I would think you would need to leave you cabin by 430 AM. Are you able to do that?

I wouldn't think there would be cabs hanging around the ship that early either.

Perhaps you could leave the night before and spend the night at a hotel near the airport. You could probably have someone with the ship help you with your luggage and cabs would be available in the evening.

  10. I was very impressed with HAL's speedy response on confirming our shareholder OBC.

I faxed the info about 930 PM PDT and when I got up at 730 AM PDT, I had an email that morning sent at 630 AM PDT.

I also got a confirmation from our TA that this credited.

I never get that kind of service from Princess.

  11. I have tried scanning thru the pages. We want to hire a car for 3 days, then drop off at Lax. Enterprise want $55 for the drop fee and are expensive when you consider we have to pay all types of insurance on car rental. Do you know of anyone else we can use? We prefer Alamo but can't get a quote from San Pedro. Many thanks

Others from Australia have said that they get better rates from there than in the US.

It may be cost effective to take the SuperShuttle to LAX to pick up a rental car--$17/person. After you get to LAX, you would need to pick up the car rental shuttle.

  12. Hello,

I'm looking for Tallinn pdf as the post #85 website is no longer working. Can anyone please kindly send it to me? My email is satseeker@gmail.com

    Thanks in advance

even with the clues in #85, I just get redirected to an unrelated site (selling the domain name)

    please if someone could send me the pdf at p a f e r r e r at v e r i z o n dot n e t

    no spaces at = @ and dot = .

    Thank you.

  13. We had planned to use our Capital One Visa card to pay for our tours with Alla Tours in St. Petersburg.

Someone on our roll call has posted that they were notified by Chase Bank that its credit cards could not longer be used in Russia.

I have read a couple of news stories and they made it sound like if you had a Russian bank issued Visa or Mastercard and that bank was on the sanctions list, it couldn't be used, not our USA issued card.

Does anyone specifically know what the rules are?

I hate to bring that much cash with me on the cruise.

  14. Escargot is simply French for snails. It is considered pretentious to use "escargot" if you're an English speaker;)

Been on lots of cruises and dine occasionally at high end restaurants, must all be pretentious because all offer escargot, not snails.
