  1. I did read through the full thread--the OP said she booked through Cruise Air (near the end of the thread)--but from what I could tell instead of calling the Cruise Air 800 number kept trying to deal with the airline.

Other problem--two of the party of 4 didn't have a passport, so Cruise Air couldn't send them to the first port as they couldn't legally get back to the US.

I tried browsing through her subsequent posts to see if she ever got her money back as she said she had insurance, but didn't see anything relevant--but didn't look too far.

    Did see she sailed 4/8/2012

  2. Thanks but unless I'm doing something completely off... it seems to be a link for TA's

At this time, this online New Account Registration form is only applicable to new agencies within the United States and Canada. If your agency is outside of the United States or Canada, please contact Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. within your respective country.

Tested the link I gave you and it worked for me and I'm not a TA. I started with www.choiceair.com that link sent me to the one I originally posted.

  3. We are new to Celebrity and try to use FF miles to fly to our cruise embarkation and disembarkation ports. This trip we had to buy our airfare . I checked out choice air before making the decision and found the airfare to be cheaper than what I found on line using kayak and going to the carrier's own web site. It gives you a choice of day of departure from home and day of departure of return. It also gives you lots of flights so you can fly your favorite carrier--or if flying an international one that usually doesn't charge for alcoholic beverages like a US carrier would if you are back in economy with us. For our upcoming Eastern Med cruise, I elected Choice Air.

You don't need to be booked to look at the options. Check it out at choiceair.com

Also--if you buy insurance through Celebrity and the airfare through Choice Air, the airline fare is covered at no additional cost. After falling and breaking my wrist in Feb, just two days before our Princess cruise, I was glad I bought the travel insurance. I only bought it because my dad is 94 years old and worried about him and his health. He is just fine! Note that insurance through Celebrity is less expensive than Princess insurance--a little less coverage on some things, but sufficient IMHO.

  4. Anyone know if there is a shuttle service or towncar available from pier in San Pedro to Anaheim/Disneyland area? Is this even possible? renting a car would not be our option. Thanks.

Supershuttle offers the service from the pier to Disneyland is $48 for the first adult, $9 each for any others.

I would book a reservation as most of the shuttles waiting at the port will be going to LAX.

    PrimeTime would also offer this.

When you make the reservation or look for a quote, the Port is an Airport--so you are going from an Airport--keep scrolling down in the list and you will find the Ports and also the train stations.

  5. Not Wineaux, but had to drive that way for work every so often from Long Beach--as you are a carpool and you are getting a private transfer (?) I would think you would have no problems getting there by 930 AM--if not earlier--unless there is something ugly, like rain, happening.

  6. Our flight does not leave until 7pm from LAX after getting off the cruise ship in San Pedro. Rather than heading straight to LAX at 9am ( & sit around for 10 hrs) is there anything we can do in San Pedro until later in the day? Supershuttle suggested we get picked up at the pier by 3pm (flight back to Canada).

    Thanks in advance.

Sunseekers offers tours of Los Angeles that pick up at the port and return you to LAx.

Search this forum--you should find some positive reviews.

  7. Here's a link to the public transportation options from San Pedro, World Cruise Center to the Long Beach Airport.

Looks like perhaps $1.50 and an hour or so plus some walking over to the bus stop (I looked at the list and don't know which one would be closest to the cruise port) and then I understand that the bus doesn't go into the airport, so you would need to walk about a 1/2 mile or so from Lakewood Blvd to the airport terminal.

  8. My agent booked me into Crowne Plaza for one night Feb 27th 2012, solo occupancy with king size bed prepaid $139.

She has still not yet arranged for transport LAX to Hotel, says that including tips will most likely cost me $90 (Since I travel alone and am in my mid 80's waiting for shuttle and then stopping here there and everytwhere, is stressful for me)

How far to walk is Grinders , assume it is something like Denny"s here in FL.?

Please has anyone on this thread used Grinders for either "supper" (dinner) or breakfast

    Thank you for all information

    Lynn

The Grinder in San Pedro is probably the last operating diner of the former "The Grinder" chain. From my memory, they were generally better than Denny's. If you are concerned about walking, just eat at the hotel.

Sign up for the shuttle to the port when you check into the hotel so you know exactly when you need to be ready to get on it.

If you don't want to use a shared shuttle and are concerned about high taxi fare, check out execucar by supershuttle. It offers a service where it picks you up when you call for $55 from LAX to San Pedro Crowne Plaza (plus tip.) If you want someone holding a sign for you by baggage claim, it is $83 (plus tip.) Book at www.supershuttle.com

  9. My bid on PL for the CP was rejected at $95. I ended up paying alot more to get 2 of the only 3 rooms left. :(

What I didn't remember, is the Toyota Grand Prix is April 13th each year, and that's why there are no hotels left on that date.

    Pat

It's not always on the 13th--usually it is the second weekend in April (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.)

  10. We will be traveling to San Pedro from LAX and the hotel (Embassy Suites) recommended California Limousine Service they charge $65 (2 people) one way? Has anyone used them or heard of them???

    Thanks

Is this a private transfer? If so, it is a pretty good price. A Supershuttle shared shuttle would be $38 and their private car service is $61.

  11. Just booked Crown Plaza for $74/nite on 10/29 for Cabo 5 day cruise leaving 10/30 on Carnival Spirit. Counting on free parking based on posts I've seen here...

    83 days, but who's counting!!!!

I wouldn't count on the free parking--I thought it charged even for overnight guests.

  12. Hotel Maya is in Long Beach--unless you are sailing Carnival, you should probably stay with your Crowne Plaza reservations in San Pedro.

The Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles (San Pedro) are two different locations and approximately a $20 cab ride (if not more) apart.

  13. In my opinion, you have too little time to bother with the expense to get there, especially if you don't want to rent a car. You would probably want to take a cab and it would probably be $60 or more each way. Tickets are $76 for one park, $101 for a park hopper and generally the price increases in August. You would need to leave the resort by 2 PM to get back to San Pedro to make sure you check in an hour before sailing (if it is 4 PM).

  14. They'll be coming in at 1:45PM but would take a while before they get them baggage so it may be 3PM before they get to leave.

Yes, if there is any glitch--late arrival, long wait for luggage, you may get stuck in rush hour traffic (I assumed they were arriving Mon through Fri). Encourage them to order ExecuCar!

  15. My parents and aunt and uncle are going coming in to LAX and staying at the Crowne Plaza in San Pedro for two nights before their cruise on the Island Princess. I was going to tell them to use a shuttle from LAX but since there is 4 of them and a shuttle would be 68$, I'm now thinking that a cab may be cheaper and faster. I checked on ExecuCar and they want 55$ so that may be better but I'm not sure how my parents feel of booking this online. Would a cab be much more than 55$?

The advantage of the ExecuCar is that is there is a problem with the freeways--there will be no extra charge. What time of day will your parents be landing at LAX? If after 9 AM and before 2 PM, they probably won't run into any traffic problems--but if it is between 3 PM and 7 PM they will be in rush hour traffic that can be very slow.

  16. There is a post floating around this board that says there is oversize vehicle parking in a lot next door.

If I were you, I would check out the Doubletree's stay/park/sail package. All guest parking is together. Doubletree is not in the downtown area--I could make arguments either way why your truck would be safer or not.

You could try calling the LAPD substation in San Pedro for advice--or perhaps Wineaux would do that for you or has some specific knowledge for you.

  17. The number you're calling may be for the San Pedro Catalina Express offices....but they are closed until April, when the Express starts running again out of San Pedro.

This is the reservation number...(800) 481-3470...but you may be able to manipulate your way through the maze of pressing buttons to get to general questions....

No I tried the Catalina Express office (I called Long Beach as this was a Long Beach question.) From there I went to the Catalina Chamber of Commerce--I was definitely calling an Avalon number.

Catalina Baggage Delivery & Storage Services

    Street: Cabrillo Mole # 1

    Avalon, ca 90704-

    Phone: (310) 510-0766

  18. I have one for you..

..in case our cruise doesn't offer Luggage Express to the airport/airline we use .. and we want to spend the day with relatives and/or on Catalina Island WITHOUT luggage... do you know if there are any luggage storage options at the San Pedro Cruise Port or at/near the Catalina Express (San Pedro) Port?? We will not be getting a hotel room in San Pedro before or after the cruise, FYI.

Thank you in advance for this wonderful little thread! :)

In trying to answer this question for some one else, I called the Catalina Chamber of Commerce. I was told that there was a luggage storage location right where the boats from San Pedro/Long Beach/Newport dock and was give a number. Tried calling twice, but never got an answer.

  19. Thanks for the info. Only trying to choose a HOliday Inn /Crowne PLaza as we have reductions for them re relations working for the group.

Maybe should consider another group. TA said Best WEstsrn???? However, as you say only a short time so maybe near San Pedro departing from there and then not anopther cab fare??

Regards and thanks Irene and Stan.

Cab fare from downtown Long Beach to the port runs around $25 according to some recent posts. I live in Long Beach and would absolutely not stay at a Holiday Inn at 11th and Atlantic. Not a good neighborhood and directly across the street from a major hospital with lots of ambulance noise. The other Holiday Inn is in a nicer neighborhood--but absolutely nothing to do around there if you don't have a car. Cab fare would probably be $10 more from there. The Best Western Convention Center (the only one you should consider--the others are in iffy neighborhoods if my memory serves me right), is on Bruin Steve's ONLY if you must list. Unless the rates you are getting for these places in Long Beach are such a bargain, I would use priceline, (bid your own travel), San Pedro ONLY, 3 (or is it 3 1/2 stars) ONLY, start a $55 -- you should be either the CP or the DT. Good hotels. Free shuttle to port. Good neighborhood in San Pedro.
