  1. We are coming up to our final payment and there are "deals" out there that will lower our price several hundred dollars....but we will lose other perks. Do they let you keep the same cabin? Would it be worth it to chance being put somewhere on the ship...who knows where? Thanks.

  2. First time we went to Alaska our ship left from Vancouver....then the 2nd time we left from Seattle. It was in August and on our 2nd day out...a formal night...just about everyone was feeling ill. My husband really got ill and said, "Never again will we leave from Seattle", but guess what? We leave from Seattle on August 29th on Holland America because of their itinerary. Here's hoping for calm seas.

  3. You gave me some great tips...thanks. Yes, I'll go to Ketchikan, Tracy Arm, Juneau, Icy Strait Point, Anchorage, Homer, Kodiak, Sitka. This is why I won't have tons of cash to use on tours. Do most of you think this is too late in the season to see salmon and bears?

  4. I'll be going on a 14-day cruise to Alaska in August-Sept and really can't afford to go on a $300 bear sighting tour or flight. Is there another way to see them in the wild? Where did you see them? I'll be going to Kenai Peninsula, Kodiak, Homer, etc. Thanks for any ideas. I do remember seeing black bears at Mendenhall once.

  5. While dining I would love to be seated by one of those large windows. Could anyone tell me how many people sit at the tables by the windows so we could ask for one of them? I think we asked for a table for 6-8 people, but I don't want to be stuck in the middle of the room. Thanks.

  6. I came across this by reading someone's post about their trip to Anchorage. I had been planning on taking a taxi to get around or rent a car...but then I found out it is unnecessary as there is a free shuttle that will take you a) to the Anchorage Museum b) to the log cabin visitor's booth c) to Hotel Captain Cook d) to Sheraton e) to the Alaska Native Heritage Center. It circles every hour. Tickets can be purchased at either attraction or online at alaskaculturepass.org

Hope this helps someone trying to keep their costs down.

  7. We took a Globus tour...and loved it. We had already done Alaska cruising and were hungry to see the interior. Our tour guide took us everywhere and informed us along the way. We just relaxed and took it all in. We did paddleboats, dog camps, Denali, Heritage centers, train, boat trip with them...and were very glad to have taken this trip.

  8. I would love to hear from someone who rented a car in Sitka and drove around the Island. Was it pleasant? Did you see any bears? Did you go to the beach to see wildlife? Did you see the bisson? I'm very interested in your experience. Thanks in advance.
