New York Brooklyn Cruise Port
ladyjayneq replied to gramwold's topic in Marella Cruises (formerly Thomson)
Gramwold. I presume you’re on the cruise that is in New York on 20/21 September? We’re on the same one. have you looked at the subway. 2.90 usd, you can go from Carroll St in Brooklyn, I can’t remember which line you get. I’m currently away from home and all my info is there. We’re either getting the ferry across to pier 11 then the one up to 34th street or getting the subway up to Central Park and having done the park will make our way back to Times Square and on to Brooklyn. We’re also going to get the ferry to Wall St and going to 911, the Ghostbusters fire station then walking back across the Brooklyn Bridge. -
Thanks Jim, that’s clarified a few worries I had 👍🏻. Not so good about the delay for you, I’ve been seeing a lot about delays for all sorts of reasons and TUI seem to be trying to get out of paying compensation for most. Oh well, we’ll keep our fingers crossed that neither of us have delays on our upcoming cruises. 🤞

Discovery, The Great Musical Afternoon Tea
ladyjayneq replied to ladyjayneq's topic in Marella Cruises (formerly Thomson)
Hi DG, I wasn’t actually planning on the vows bit,(renewed our a few years back), I was having a quiet read through the brochure whilst my dad had a nap! It didn’t mention a cost when it said that 47 degrees hosts the afternoon tea, so was looking forward to that, it was only when I read the Icing on the Cake pages that I realised there might be a charge. -
Hi Jim the Scot glad to hear you enjoyed your cruise. Where’s the next one going? I have couple of questions re flying from Glasgow. Did you check in online alright, and print off your flight boarding passes ok, if not how did you get on at the airport and what about coming home? Sorry to sound an idiot but I’m one of those who likes to know how everything’s going to work out. Having never checked in online etc before. Was so much easier when I had a paper ticket in hand! (Ohh, does that make me sound old!)

Thanks Dronnygirl, I was wondering about this but nothing was mentioned that it was extra until I started reading the brochure from cover to cover! -

Sheera07, Yes, been checking out the ferry across to Manhattan to pick up the big bus, it's about .6 of a mile from the ferry port. -

Well I'm not impressed. I feel that we're being penalised for booking a cruise that doesn't dock in Manhattan. Message from Shannon at Marella. Our team have confirmed there won't be any transport in Brooklyn to or from the port offered on this sailing. We had booked the Big Bus tour but think we might cancel it and make our own way to the nearest stop. -

For cruisers who’ll be berthed in Brooklyn. Just messaged Tui to see if they’re putting on shuttle buses to connect with the Big Bus tours. Will await with interest for a response. -
Thank you all, got a bit confused there. We’ve got it booked but hubby had read about a tour that went to the Space Port.
-
Has anyone been on the Marella excursion to the KSC, wondering if you go to the space port as well?

Hi Miller Cruiser yes, all the others are at Manhattan, but there’s a few ships in when we arrive so I think we’ve been bumped to Brooklyn. We’ve got the Everglades booked, really looking forward to this. I first heard of them when I read a book called the Ghost of Flight 401, did you do the Big Bus tour in NY, Just wondering how you get back to the ship? Did you go to the Kennedy Space Ctr? -

Jim, thanks. Busy booking trips now. Have one booked for Miami The Everglades. Not much chance anywhere else to go on an airboat! Not long now for yourself 🛳️ -
Hi Coalman, that’s a shame. Tailored shorts are not my idea of dress to impress, mind you there’re probably cooler than a full suit (which my husband has just bought, his tux must have shrunk in the wardrobe!) we don’t get much chance to dress up so am looking forward to this night, was it held on the first sea night? Keep up with the bow-ties I think they look so classy.

Hi Gramworld, that’s weird, one site says Manhattan and another says Brooklyn for our cruise terminal. Who knows where we’ll end up. -

Jim the Scot had email re passport this morning, it’s about to be printed so hopefully we’ll get it soon. Then I can get the cruise booked and hope there’s still seats on the flight. will keep fingers crossed for you that yours goes ahead. we were booked on one of the Thomson ships some years ago just after the accident with the lifeboat. It was 10:30 the night before we left that I finally got an answer from Thomson that we were going. Everyone on board got a bottle of fizz for the uncertainty but as you can imagine the mood of the crew was low when we went into the same port and the lifeboat was still sitting on the dock. -

Edinburgh is ok for us as well if we can't get Aberdeen, we've usually done Med but as we're celebrating our 20th anniversary next year decided to do something different and hubby wanted to cruise into New York. We've been on the Thomson ships previously so at last minute decided to bring the celebrations forward, so we could go with Marella. Not long now till you're away bey you can't wait. -

Jim the Scot, we may go down the hotel route, just wish that we could get flights from Aberdeen. It was bad enough getting any flights from Aberdeen when we lived near Dyce but now we're in Morayshire so even further away. -

Hi Pink 15, thanks for that, good to know we’re getting something, the flight is at 7:45 am so bearing in mind we’re supposed to be there 3 hours beforehand and we have a 3 &3/4 hour drive first I think we’ll be in need of food!
