Sorry but a one year old is too young to learn acceptable behavior.  As I said before, a one year old when asked fifteen years from now how that first cruise was will have no memory of it.  Ask the mother and she will tell you that all you did was bawled at dinner ruining the meal for all of the people around you.

I am a parent.  When our boys were babies, we left them with relatives and went on vacations.  When they were 4 or 5, we started taking them with us everywhere we went.  They still have fond memories of every vacation we took.  You have your opinion, I have mine.  I won't try to change you and you won't change me.

Would you want to be in a cabin next to a baby that cried all night?  Would you want to sit down for a meal and have a crying baby be next to you all through the meal?

not everyone has relatives they can drop children off with.  I sure don't. so if I want to go somewhere, the babies go with me.  do my kids remember going to a grocery store when they were 1?  no, but they go and now they have gone so often, they know how to behave in a grocery store.

I can't just leave my kids at home because it's convenient for everyone else when I  need a vacation.

You could clearly tell my the look on her face that she was not enjoying it nor were the people around her that were trying to eat a peaceful meal.  More than once she left the dining room with the crying baby.

believe me, nobody enjoys a crying baby.  but that doesn't mean her whole cruise was horrible.  just because dinner was noisy and uncomfortable doesn't mean that the mother didn't have 1,000 other good minutes and times.   it's still not a reason to not cruise if you are able.

it's almost like mothers aren't supposed to take their babies anywhere.  just keep them at home until they are old enough to have manners. meanwhile, they'll never learn how to have acceptable bahaviour in society if one never lets them out into society.

once again, this is just daily life.   she just happened to be on a ship.

I would think twice about taking a small child on a cruise.  We just got off the Horizon and I am not exaggerating, every night at dinner, there was a same baby that cried all the way through dinner.  You could see the mother walking around trying to quiet the baby but it never worked.  I felt sorry for her because she couldn't enjoy her meal.  Those babies will never remember going on a cruise that young.  Wait until they get a little older and both you and them can enjoy it.

So basically, a typical day.   that baby is gonna cry if it is at home as well.  i don't think people should stop vacationing because they have a baby.  I personally (and a personal decision, not advocating everyone do this, but for ME) am waiting for my daughter to turn 2 simply because i want to utilize camp carnival.   i have a crying baby daily on my hands and i don't want one every single minute of my cruise.  others are ok with this and they can vacation around it.   But being a mom, kids are gonna be kids, they are going to cry and have tantrums and do all of that stuff on land.  if you are in a position to cruise with a baby and get enjoyment out of it, i say go for it.

  5. uggg, time is going soooo slowly.  i've been reading everything and watching videos.  even my son has started watching videos of the triumph kids club (he's 4, so he's getting excited for the Sunrise ship. ).   our cruise is just over 5 months away, and i realize that i'll be wishing the summer away (something i really don't want to do) waiting for it to get here, but i've been being so patient that it is KILLING me.  i booked this trip last January..yes, January 2018, so it's been the longest i've ever waited for a cruise to roll around.

just kinda venting here because none of my friends are really fans of cruising and it doesn't consume them like it does me 😞 and i feel like i need to talk about it.  ok, off to more reading and more time killing.....

  6. good to know. i really should explore this site more while killing time waiting for my cruise.  there are so many links/ topics, it looks overwhelming. i stick to the main topics mostly.  however, it was on this website that i discovered you could cruise on container ships!  like WHAT??? i'd never even considered it before.  anyway, i'll explore and find those pics. thanks again for sharing.

  7. they 'lost' my first cruise from 1996, so the online booking thing didn't work for me.  i called them with the details, sail date, etc and they had me send an email...a couple of days later, they added it for me so now it is counted.  give them as much info as you can.

and Aplmac, niiiice card collection.  and as for ships on a stick, i'm not into trivia and all that stuff, so i never really have a chance to win one.  on my last cruise on the carnival Legend, they were running short on entertainment for the show they used to have on the last night of the cruise (where people dressed up as madonna, aretha, britney, etc....) i made a deal with the Karaoke guy that if he'd give me a ship on a stick, i'd do the show.  he gave me two and i love them!

Unless things have changed, children have to be potty trained before going to camp.

They only have to be 2 years old, they don't have to be potty trained. they give the parents a cell phone for the very little kids to come in case of emergency (like a poop blowout), but they will change regular diapers. you just have to supply them with the diapers.

  9. it's a little bit like a single person having to pay for 2 people in the room. not sure why they do this at all.  I'm waiting until my daughter turns 2 so we can at least utilize camp carnival during the day. I can't take a 1 year old on a cruise and have any sort of a good time without a break from the baby.

  10. We are on the magic in december 2020.  we chose a balcony mid ship, between the two sets of elevators and we chose the Empress deck (deck 7) because there are staterooms above and below, so we don't have to worry about noise from kitchens or discos or clubs or whatever,  just noise from regular people's rooms.   fingers crossed.

  11. does anyone know how far in advance of a cruise these cabanas open up?  i'm still a ways out from the cruise, but i've been checking every day and nothing yet.  they have posted a few excursions for one of the other ports, but wondering if anyone has a general idea of how far out they let you book cabanas.

    any info  would be appreciated.

  12. We've always had late dining on all of our cruises because before having children, the 6:00 time was just too early to eat.  I don't even get home from work most nights until 7pm, so late dining was a good option for us.  The dining room has never been full, so it's possible more people elect to do early dining.

now, (for the last cruise and for our upcoming cruises) we have booked ATD, which works best for us at this time.   I do miss the late seating, but with young kiddos, there's just no way at the moment.

  13. They removed several things I was looking at purchasing as well and got rid of the category for Dr. Seuss altogether.  I wondered if they were just doing a Fun Shop clean up of some sort.  I hope they bring it back

just to clarify, I know they have dr seuss things, but they used to have an entire category for that stuff and it's gone.

Are you aware that babies/children in diapers of any kind (including "swim diapers") are by law forbidden to enter cruise ship pools and hot tubs, even "family" pools and hot tubs? No one in a diaper, and no one needing a diaper of any kind, no one not completely toilet-trained, is allowed in.

I'm aware...and there are beaches.  I've cruised with babies before, but thanks for your concern poster with 12 posts.
