  1. Siince a fair number of people seem to be taking the Gate1 Egypt tours, I think a lot of the information in the thread remains useful.

Like you, I'm a little surprised it's still somewhat active, but as long as it helps people, I'll keep plugging away at it.

I know I've certainly gotten a lot of good advice from Cruise Critic over the years, and it makes me feel good that others are getting some advice and suggestions from this thread.

Good luck with the new house! I just moved into a new house 8 months ago, after 31 years in the same place. I still have boxes I haven't gone through, lol. Somehow wasting some hours on Cruise Critic seems more enjoyable than that, lol. :D

I'm not Rita, but, THANK YOU!!! My husband and I have just gotten serious about getting to Egypt and your information is wonderful! I am just in the begining stages of planning our trip but it has moved from "someday" to "full steam ahead". I will be reading and rereading your posts. Thank you so much. I haven't even made it to all the links provided yet. Your writing style is so enjoyable to read and the information is priceless. Again, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!

  2. Good thread! You are all my role models! I just go with the idea that I don't know these people, I am not going to see them again, and I am going to enjoy my vacation.

xxoocruiser Wow! I just copied your packing rules on my packing list page. Maybe I can rethink a few items. LOL

Tmrlovesjr Congrats! That is a wonderful accomplishment. I have been working on it since November and doing well but it sure to nice to know that it CAN be done! Well done.

MissRabbit I have liked and laughed at many of your comments. When you said Kiwi-I thought you meant the bird. Both are unique and special.

Gairy Fodmother I love the t shirt idea! going to that sight when I sign off.

  3. We are sailing in November and flying in 2 days early. Currently, we have a room in Kingsland at the Comfort Inn Suites.

We were planning to go to the Okeefenokee swamp one day, and Savannah the next for some Carriage Rides and Haunted Pub tours.

Is Kingsland a decent place to hang out in? Anything in the area that we should absolutely "not" miss?

    Thanks,

    JB

Kingsland is a very small sleepy and not quaint village. St. Mary's (take Hwy 40 east). Has more to offer-on the river and little shops. Ferry to Cumberland leaves from downtown. Cumberland is very natural and you will not find t shirt shops or vendors. Be prepared- food and drink, bug spray, etc. It is wonderful if you understand it is not civilization.

The swamp can be fun. Take the boat trip to see gators, etc.

    Savannah is divine.:D

However, if you go to the swamp-the drive is at least an hour. I seem to remember it longer than that. Savannah is 2 1/2 hours from Kingsland. Then another 1 hour to get to the port. Back and forth in 2 days is a lot of seat time in the car.

Maybe I am just being an ole __ but I would cut it down a little. How about a kayak trip from St. Mary instead of swamp. By the way, DO NOT SPEED anywhere in Camden County!!! That is how they make $$$.
