  1. In the main cruise terminal building you can either buy tickets for the cruise line bus to the station or the bus into town, which I think we're €16 and €5 euros.

There were 5 of us I met up with some fellow cruisers and we were given a price of €25 for a taxi ride to the station one way, so we took that option as it was cheaper and quicker. There is a taxi stand inside the main terminal building.

The taxis were waiting at the station when we returned and they charged the same price.

  2. First of all post on your roll call and see if there is anyone interested in sharing a taxi with you.

I have just come back from a med cruise.

Certainly at Messina port there was a board displayed with prices for taxis. We didn't want to do the tours listed so we asked one of the taxi driver godfathers how much a taxi would be to Taromina with a 3 hour stop. We were told it was €200, between us and the taxi godfather we found another couple to share the taxi so it cost €50 each. In hindsight it would have been easier to pair up with someone pre-cruise, but it all worked out great.

  3. No - every soda requested is zero charge listed on my account. 10% tax paid at point of purchase and no extras charged

It seems the issue appears to be for people who pre purchased. I tried to pre purchase but they stopped allowing this after 1 August. I can confirm other posts that have stated no issues encountered with bringing alcohol onboard. As you can imagine I'm now pleased I didn't buy a cheers package. I think the likes of Celebrity and NCL offering free packages with do very well with UK cruisers now. The poor exchange rate for UK cruisers coupled with Spanish taxes make for an expensive holiday.

Well I purchased the bubbles package onboard and have an additional .15c for every drink that my child on the ship during last weeks cruise. So extra VAT was charged for us.

  4. Just an update. Carnival have moved the whole of my deposit included the $50pp cancellation fee to my new cruise Med cruise booked with a UK TA, which they have given as an OBC.

This would have been money that I would have lost, due to the fact that I wouldn't be cruising with CCL until a Med cruise was back again, which is not likely to happen until 2018 at the earliest.

    Excellent service from CCL.

  5. i do hope the ship is ready for the first sailing.

I seem to remember that at some point in time some cabins on the 1st delayed sailing (2nd planned sailing which turned out to be the first), were taken up by construction workers who were making a few finishing touches).

So CCL could have blocked off all remaining cabins for now on the 1st and 2nd sailing in case they need them. I do not believe it is sold out. On Tuesday I had an email from a UK TA here offering cabins on 01/05 sailing at silly prices. Approx $800 including a hotel for 2 nights and flights.

Once they start the sea trials, they can still catch up, as there will be workers onboard doing other things. I just hope that the ship yard have things under control after the alleged sabotage that occurred with the sunshine build.

People received compensation on a few of those early sailings due to things not being finished properly for example a pool was out of action for a couple of days and buckets were in corridors where the pipes were leaking. Remember though the Sunshine was a cut up an old ship and make it bigger job, as oppose to a new build.

Even on my July sailing, there were still sightings of the odd bucket catching drips in corridors.

Carnival will look after guests if the ship is delayed.

  6. I have cancelled an ES rate on my Vista sailing.

As yet I haven't received any communication regarding the left over amount from my original deposit.

Do I receive any written communication, or does the credit just sit somewhere on my account and can I view it online? I cannot find anything.

Surely I should have some sort of reference number to quote, so that I can apply the credit to any future cruise I book?

Sorry I have tried searching for the answer but all I can find is that it will be given as a future non-refundable credit.

  7. Hi

I am current,y booked at ES rate and final payment has not yet arrived.

I paid a $600 deposit. I understand that I will loose $150 due to the cancellation $50 per person and the balance $450 is given as a future cruise credit to be used within 24 months of the cancellation, which would take me to Febrauary 2018.

My question is, as Summer 2018 cruises are not yet out and won't be for a while, can I use the $450 left over credit to put down as a deposit on another cruise on fully refundable cruise rate for example say October 2017 and then when Summer 2018 cruises come out cancel that cruise (Oct 17) and move the deposit to the 2018 cruise, the one that i intend to take?

I am from the UK so restricted to when I can cruise with Carnival. I can save some money by cancelling my current cruise and rebooking here in the UK, even if I loose the whole $600, but obviously if there is a way to max out the lost deposit so much the better.

  8. Just over 2 years ago 4 of us jumped in a cab from messina port & went to Taormina. We had about 2 or so hours of free time there & stopped at a couple of other places for a quick photo stop. All up we were gone about 5 hours & I think we paid something like 35-40 euro's each which we negotiated at the port.

Thank you, that was the info I was looking for. I meant to take a photo at the port of the cost when we returned for future reference, but I completely forgot.

  9. Schedule on a project he size of a cruise ship is a fluid concept. The midway checkpoints like sea trials can move around without effecting the final deadline. As time draws closer the ship yard will just ramp up the overtime worked and a lot of their workers will get rich lol.

    B

It is very unlikely that the ship gets released late IMO.

Fingers crosse. Let's hope Carnival have learned a thing or too after what happened with the Sunshine.

  10. You should be ok. The only bumping being done are from cabins with a higher capacity (for instance if you booked 2 guests in a cabin for 4) or if you booked a modified cabin and Carnival needs it for a true handicapped guest.

Or the cabin you orginal booked for the correct number of people has now been changed to accommodating a different number of persons (lower number from 4 to 3 or 3 to 2) or has been changed into a modified cabin, again 3 to 2 people). It's to do with the number of people allocated to lifeboats and fitting beds/couches into room size, now they can see what the finished cabins look like.

  11. Just out of curiosity, how do you know that it has two windows in it when there are no actual pictures of the rooms yet?

When you look at the info on the deck plan it gives a description, that says 2 picture windows.

I booked the cabin back in February 2015, so the cabin may have changed, as originally the cabin was for three and not HC marked on the deck plan. The deck plan has now been changed to HC for 2 people.

  12. Barcelona HOHO bus, you can get on and off to see the sights and the kids will enjoy it. Magic Fountains free. There is also a chocolate museum too.

Marsielles, a pig of a port. Last time transfers to the old port were $15 each.

Try a private tour. Look on trip advisor. Or search for a taxi to take you to the beach.

Livorno. Companies above plus romeinlimo. Pisa might be good with a baby in tow. Very busy, photo op with the tower, some nice places on the lawns to sit and have a picnic and Gelleto. You can pre book tower tickets online. The older kids could go up with the younger ones, whilst someone stays with the baby.

Rome, beach area in the port, unless you want a tour. Collos would appeal to your kids or the Cattacombes. Again Romeinlimo or other companies above.

Naples. I would do this one on your own dead easy. You walk off the boat and the hydrofoils are there, these take you to Capri and Soorento. Sorrento will be easier. Nice little road train ride when you get there. For three of us it was around $97 a couple of years ago plus the road train.

Messina, not a lot to do, maybe stay on the boat and enjoy, remember you have paid a fortune for this cruise, so eat their food and have fun on an empty ship.

Dubrovnik. Taxi tour for 4 is approx €50 (2013) for a 1 hour tour, you could get 2, or a taxi to town for €20, have a walk around maybe take the cable car.

Hope this helps. Also read lots of other trip reports on Carnival boards, celebrity, RCL, ncl.

On carnival search for med breeze, med sunshine, med dream, med legend reviews. That will help you decide.

It is ver hot in Europe think Las Vegas dry heat, it's not sticky humid like Europe.

It's also very expensive to eat too at restaurants. A Macdonalds for three in Barac cost us €18 back in 2010 which was around $35!!!!!

  13. We're in 2462 and 2470 and now they've been classified as HC. I wish they would bump us to balconies :D

2470 has two picture windows in it, that's why I chose it, it is also quite a bit bigger than a balcony and you will be able to get snacks from across the hall.

I am gutted about losing that room. But if it's reclassified so be it.

Are there only two of you booked in the room?

  14. More info has now been gleamed from Carnival.

I had booked 2470 back in February, deck plans at the time showed this as a three person normal cabin.

Now Carnival have reclassified this cabin as a two person HC cabin, so I have been moved. Fair enough.

I spotted this because my friend on another site posted that he had been upgraded to two balcony cabins on deck 6 from his two FE cabins. He discovered his change through manage my booking on Carnivals website.

When I checked I saw that I had been changed to another cabin also, although not the free upgrade.

So if anyone is at the back of the boat in those Harbour view cabins you might want to check your bookings or ask your TA to check. No notifications were received by either ourselves or our TA's of the changes.

  15. Has anyone been bumped from their chosen cabin besides me? I had an OV booked with 2 picture windows on the side of the boat and have now been moved to the rear of the boat.

No emails received either by my TA or me.

If you are booked in a Family Harbour OV you might want to check your booking.

One lucky family on my sailing has had their two cabins upgraded to balconies.

  16. I am trying to book for Feb/Mar 2017 and everything looks to be sold out.

    Really?

but looking on the deck plans this ship has very few cabins for 3-4 people.

    am i missing something?

You are right there are very few cabins for three or more, when you compare to the Breeze.

It means families have to book two cabins and if there are only three of you or 5 it becomes very expensive because the 100% surcharge kicks in.

Set up alerts using the fish and one may pop up if someone cancels.

I am wondering myself if it's a dilibrate ploy by Carnival or if it's because the ship isn't finished yet and more will be allocated as 3 people cabins later.

I cannot remember if the same happened when the Breeze was built.

Are there not any OV family cabins at the back of the boat, or failing that ring Carnival and see if anything is hidden.
