  1. I am currently on the Breeze. Was talking to someone (Carnival employee) on the ship last night who said the Vista will be stopping at Malta. He was very excited and pulled out a map and was showing me.

Malta works for me, last time I went there was in 1976. Didn't he/she show you any other maps? Your mission is to find them again and find out all of the ports that the Vista will stop at before Thursday;)

John has posted another picture today, it looks like Athens or Izmir, probably Athens, but he's already posted a couple of Athens before.

  2. I think all the other ports we are checking will not be posting 2016 quite this early. We'll just have to keep biting our nails waiting for the 22nd

I can't book until the 29th of January anyway but at least we will have time to go over all our options.

:D I will be studying those deck plans too, trying to work out which cabin I am having. I wonder if there will be any rooms for three on the corner aft, or ones with floor to ceiling glass at the front like on the Valor for three.

it doesn't help that John keeps mentioning he's seen pictures of the new ship. The ship yard have posted a picture of a drawing of the Vista with -7 on it. A week to go. What time is the press release out?

  3. Guys Turkey is a very safe country for tourists in the main tourists areas.

I have been visiting since the early 90's just before the first Iraq war and it was very safe and continues to be very safe now. Turkish people are very westernised in the main resort areas, most whom tourists come into contact with speak many languages including English and German. I have been over 7 times mainly towards the South Alyanya, Bodrum, Marmaris and in 2013 Izmir on the Sunshine, where we haggled with a taxi driver and walked the Grand Bazzar on our own as a family.

I can remember sat on the beach just after the Brits had bombed Iraq and war planes flying over the beach and saying to my Mum we were sat on the edge of a war zone. That year Turkey was badly hit by a lack of tourism, but I went twice, the Germans stayed at home, so the resort was empty.

I too am a DIY girl, but if we go to Istanbul I will be arranging a tour because it's the only way I think I can get to do it all, unless we get an overnight stop. Although my two won't want to go to the Mosques, but tough they are going if the ship goes there:D. Ekol tours look promising minus the carpet tour, gosh I have done a number of those over the years. A key phrase in Turkey is Para Yok no money works a treat;)

  4. My dream Med itinerary is one that involves Croatia, Greece,Slovenia and Montenegro as they are the only places I haven't visited on an Eastern Med Itinerary (Done most other Med places).

Those last 2 doesn't seem in Carnival's sights though.

I wonder if Carnival might leave Turkey ports off due to events in Syria? It seems there are less upcoming cruises with Turkey.

Istanbul was on the survey I received, so I am hoping. Saying that Americans in the main could be nervous about Turkey with being near to Iraq and Syria, so potential sales could be a factor against going there. MSC, Celeb and NCL currently sail there plus the more expensive exclusive lines. Turkey is a fantastic place I love it and I have always wanted to go to Istanbul and sail in on a ship. I too fancy Montenegro, I think Terry from Ohio (Celeb boards) has been there I seem to remember seeing some photos.

  5. Hi Velvet

That document is not made up, it's for real I posted the picture of it straight off my iPad;) onto one of the the FB pages. She is also listed on Gibraltar (1 stop) and Rome port schedules too.

Looks like a Med cruise in 2016 is on the cards. Plus John has been teasing us all with Med pictures. It would be nice if the ship was based in European waters year round, we can dream.

  6. Since I can't read the article (I do remember when it came out - the news about large ships in Venice canal). Does anyone know other cruise line schedules for Venice (large ships)?

Most of the big boys have ships out of Venice, RCL, MSC, Costa, Celebrity and Princess.

None of them are not their newest largest ships. I think the cruise lines have taken the view of not to put their big ships into Venice due to the ongoing uncertainty.

  7. Another option for flights is to get to the UK, either Gatwick, or LHR and then look for one of our cheap airlines for flights to BCN, so you could spend a few days in London prior if you wanted to. If doing that I recommend flying into LHR. Our cheap airlines are Easyjet, Ryan air, jet2. Just bear in mind the luggage allowance and to add cost of luggage on when looking at the price. I believe KLM offer a free stop over too in Paris, but again check things may have changed.

It's also reasonable sometimes to try Norweigan airlines who fly out of FFL to Gatwick or Oslo.

Iberia fly from NY, Chicago and Miami to Madrid too and also have their own cheap carrier called Vueling for short hops in Spain.

  8. Gosh you guys get cheap airfare. It cost us to go to the states £1200 from Manchester (Northern England) to MCO direct, that's each. If we go indirect we have just had a release of fares from Delta for £520. That's for our school holidays dates which are late July around 20th to 02/09 and those prices are ridiculously low for peak period.

I save up my Avios points to try and help and do a bit of credit card churning to help push my balance up. Lots of info on flyer talk. That might work for peeps in the US.

When we were on the Sunshine we had booked the 28/07 sailing that included Monaco, as that was one of our favourite ports. Two weeks after booking and air fare paid for, Carnival cancelled Minaco and Majorca and substituted Athens, which I hate and Izmir which I liked. My DS was so upset, anyway we still enjoyed the cruise, fingers crossed John's little snipers come to fruition. I know that season the ship was actually due to dock at Monaco too, because we had a big discussion as to what side of the ship to have our cabin on.

  9. It's been on my mom's bucket list for years! I am so torn. If we do a sailing in June/July when the kids are out of school then we miss the one place she really wants to go. If we wait for months to find out the new school calendar to see when Fall Break is in October then we risk paying more and the kids would still have to miss up to a week or more with the way these dates fall. Or we abandon Carnival and go with RCCL so we don't feel cheated because they don't stop in Dubrovnik on their 12 night anyway.

I have seen a lovely Celebrity cruise with lots of Adriatic ports for 2016. Don't give up hope yet, couldn't the kids miss a little bit of school. It looks like there may be a two week cruise in June, the ship might stop at one of the other Croatian ports, I have seen some new ones on the Celeb cruise.

  10. YES! !! Dubrovnik, one of my favourites.

This means leaving Rome 09/08, probably Naples 10/08 although she could call there on her way back to Rome, a sea day and then 12/08/16 Dubrovnik. Only Carnival knows for sure.

Sorry for you travlgirl, maybe it will work out.

Here is what we have so far then, please feel free to update as discoveries are made. I haven't been through Sept or the whole of October for Rome sorry.

We need to find the Greek and Turkish ports, nothing for Athens.

  11. In the surveys that Carnival sent out last year, ports included were Istanbul, santorini, Athens, Malta, plus the usual ones, Naples, Marseilles, Barca, Livorno, etc.

There is nothing concrete though as Carnival were seeking feedback.

Someone on FB I think it was mentioned that if the ship left Barcelona on a Saturday, and arrived in Rome on a Tuesday that would put the ship at Livorno on a Monday and viewing to see David in Florence is not available then as all the museums are closed. I feel that if they have Rome as the embarkation port, they are offering something different and it opens up more choice rather than what most of the main stream are offering, same old same old ports. I am sure given a choice their US customers would prefer to start in Rome rather than Barcelona, especially if they are repeat Med customers.

  12. Heather - I've been checking Barcelona but they don't have 2016 loaded yet.

I thought Tuesday was weird as well. It's all pure speculation on my part at this point though!

Our school holidays are earlier so we plan on the June 14 departure that "appears" to be a 14 night voyage.

Thanks for the link. The ships name appears so that's a positive.

  13. Just been through my school holiday dates, this is what we know.

Looking at this I will be on the 09/08/16 ship if your guess about the Rome being the departure port. Although Tuesday does seem to be a strange day of the week for a cruise departure, unless they are taking a lead from RCL and offering a choice, Rome or BCN anyone have a link to BCN cruise schedules?

  14. Enjoying your review thanks for sharing.

My first cruise was with DCL and then we tried the Carnival Sunshine In The Med. I was dreading it,having heard of "party ships". I imagined Butlins at sea (American will have to google Butlins) but I really enjoyed it, so much so the following year we sailed on the Breeze and cancelled the Disney Fanatasy. For the money Carnival wins every time. Disney is lovely but far too expensive and Other than the food offerings Carnival does a very good job in comparison to Disney, lots more going on for adults and my DS loves the Carnival clubs just as much as DCL.
