  1. Thanks for all the responses.. My son will be turning 16, and it sounds like to be safe, I might want to order a cake ahead of time.. We have a large group cruising, so it will not go to waste...

I don't recall seeing the section or part asking about special occasions when sailing while doing the on-line check in, but will go back and look...

A little advice that may help...it's not during the online check-in process where you notate it. When you pull up your booking, you'll see four sections titled "My Itinerary", "My Activities", "My Guests", and "My Billing". You'll enter the occasion in the "My Guests" section.

    Hope that helps! :)

  2. The rooms are laid out like normal balcony rooms, with the bed by the balcony door outside. We had 2288 on the dream and liked it so much booked 2288 on the Breeze for our b2b next month. (YAY!)

We too had 2288 on the Dream and Breeze. It was a little noisier on the Breeze balcony (fan vents or something of that nature nearby on the Breeze).

  3. I can see why people think the ship is dirty.. Victory is ready for her dry dock.. she is tired and she is well worn. Looks like daily maintenance is not being done. The pool decks are very worn and not had their dose of varnish in quite a while. The rails have many many coats of white paint because you can see how thick the paint is in many of the places.

Although worn the ship is as clean as it can be.

We were on this cruise too, and I 100% agree with this assessment. I'm a happpy Carnival cruiser and will continue to cruise with them (and other lines), but the Victory is ready for a dry dock. It was really evident on the lido pool deck/slide area/lounge chair levels. The ship didn't look dirty...just really worn. I've sailed the Super Bowl cruise on the Victory the past 3 years, and this was the first year I really noticed a difference with how worn the ship looked.

Looking forward to reading the rest of your review. :)

  4. I'll start Day 3 tomorrow night. If anyone has any questions, please ask away. I will say though that we did not attend any shows, bingo, tea time, etc., except for 1 show one night. I'll have to look through the Fun Times to see which show it was, if I can remember what night it was.

I haven't ever been on the Legend and am just starting to research it as a possibility for a cruise so thanks for this review.

Does the Legend have the Mongolian Wok?

  5. Does anyone know if the Carnival items in The Fun Shops online are also sold on the ship? Specifically I'm looking for the painted wine glass and Christmas ornaments. I'd like to purchase them but may as well wait until I'm on the ship if possible. Thanks.

I've seen them in Formalities/Cherry On Top stores on the Dream and the Victory. They had the painted wine glass, pilsner glass, ornaments and painted pictures frame.

  6. We are traveling on Carnival soon and would like to visit Xcaret while we are in Cozumel. However, we would like to wait until we are on the ship to book so we can have a better idea of what the weather will be like. Has anyone had experience with the Xcaret excursion selling out?

  7. About to head out on my 8th cruise and I can't for the life of me remember the deal with port times! Argh! Hormones! When in port, do you stay on ship time or local time? For example, our stay in St. Thomas is 11a-7p. Is that ship's time or local time?

    Thanks!

Stay on ship time. However, if you have a private excursion, remember they probably use local time.

  8. OMG so many reviews!

    Don't know what to do.

I keep reading deck 6 isn't great because deck 5 is right below you- so no privacy there.

I managed to snag down cabin 6468 which looks like a bigger balcony. I see it's a weird lay-out and the balcony looks bigger- anyone have pictures or any thoughts?

    OR

should I just book a regular mid ship cabin (deck 7 or 8) which have favourable reviews?

Final payment is tomorrow so I just want to get this done!

    Thank You!

My personal favorite is the cove balconies on the Dream class ships. We've also had the longer balconies (like 6468 has) which are nice. However, on the Magic, you have a lounge right below 6468 so you may get noise from it (i.e. comedy club).

  9. That sounds like a good idea. Do the black bean and this sauces go together- flavor wise?

I think so. I've had just the Black Bean and just the Thai Barbecue. The combo balances out the "too bland" taste of Black Bean and the "a little too spicy" taste of Thai Barbecue. Of course, that's only my opinion and someone else may very well say "gag".

  10. Asian type veggies (bok choy, bean sprouts, chinese cabbage, waterchestnuts, bamboo shoots) do they offer these or the usual broccoli, carrots, peppers, peas and corn only?

    TIA

My experience is on the Dream....Yes to bok choy, bean sprouts (one of my favorites), cabbage (another favorite), snow peas as well as the usual veggies of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, peppers (red & yellow, can't remember about green), peas, corn, and onions. However, they don't offer all of the veggies every day. There are days when bean sprouts nor snow peas were offered.

There are usually 3 proteins on the Dream....chicken, beef, shrimp, pork, calamari, and mussels. I'm pretty sure chicken was offered every time I've went to the Mongolian Wok.

And last but not least...two types of noodles.

I really could go for some Mongolian Wok right now. :D

  11. Thanks. Wasn't sure. I know Thai can be spicy sometimes too! I hope it is mild enough for me. :)

To me, the Thai Barbecue is somewhat spicy. I've found my favorite combo to be 1/2 Black Bean, 1/2 Thai Barbecue.

I'm pretty sure if I tried the Szechuan, my mouth would become a fire hazard.:D

  12. Wow, when did they start charging? Seasick meds have always been free at Guest Services on every cruise I have taken.

I was on a cruise this past February and got sea sick for the first time in my life. It was early in the morning with rough seas, and the gift shop wasn't open yet. I went to Guest Services (no wait) and bought Meclizine. I'm not sure when they started charging, but it was the best $3 I spent that cruise (4 pills I believe). :D

There was a Bonine sample in the bathroom goodies when I was on the Dream in October (2 pills).

  13. While we were getting pictures done, we met Amy, one of the Entertainment Staff. She was doing interviews for the Cruise video, and she fell in love with Baby E. She asked us if she could interview us, and we said "sure!". Baby E kept trying to grab and eat the microphone, lol!

We were on this same cruise so I'm definitely enjoying your review, reading what you did in the ports, and seeing your pictures. While I don't think I saw you in person, I do remember seeing you on the cruise video that played in the cabins. Baby E is a doll...and those eyelashes!!! :)

We had a great cruise! Don't you just love the cove balconies? We had the same cabin this year as we did last year, and the noise during the night was so much more this year. We were more forward than you and heard so much this time. It didn't ruin a thing for us...just something we noticed and commented to each other about.

  14. Ate the Belize tenders as rough and fast as they used to be? My hc daughter is going with us and I'm not sure her spine can handle the ride. We're thinking about a spa day on the ship

I'm not HC but have had a LOT of spine surgeries (fused from top to bottom). We've been to Belize 4 or 5 times, and we've always tendered over. It's not been a problem for me. Because the tenders are bigger, they don't seem to hit the waves as "hard" as some of the smaller boats. Of course, that's just my experience and my opinion.

  15. Looking at 15 March cruise on the Dream and thinking about one of the L-shaped cabins. I would love to hear any thoughts from the CC community on these cabins. I have looked at some videos on youtube, but still on the fince between this and the regular shaped large-balcony cabins (same price). One big concern, does the bed have to be in a king configuration or can it be split into 2 twins (me and my SIL going)? I haven't seen any videos or pics that show the split bed configuration.

    Thanks to all!

We had an L-shaped cabin on the Dream on the Verandah deck port side. No sofa but the huge balcony was wonderful (2 chairs, one lounger, and one table). Also, because it's so far aft, there wasn't an obstructed view from the lanai. We had the king set-up, but I would think it could be split into twins.

We do like the bigger balconies and have had them on a few cruises. However, we love the cove balconies on the Dream class!!!

My personal preference on the Dream....cove first, L-shaped with large balcony second, regular balcony third. Of course, aft wrap would probably trump them all but I haven't stayed in one of those yet.

  16. I switched our rooms to cove balconies that partition to one another. I think we'll be much happier there. Plus, we plan on getting of the ship pretty much as early as possible when we port- this will help to. (No need to wait for the elevators.) Our last cruise, we used the stairs a lot instead of waiting for elevators. (Worked off some of that food!)

Thanks so much for this board! We prefer a little more privacy and we don't hang out there to get sun. Will be cool to be that close to the water. (My husband says we should bring some deep-sea fishing rods- lol!) ;)

So thankful for everyone's tips! I don't think we would have been as pleased in our original rooms and y'all were right- the original rooms did NOT have connecting balconies like we were told. Got that fixed now. :D

We LOVE the cove balconies!! We get so much sun when we're out in the ports that it's nice to have the shade on our balcony. The first year we cruised on the Dream, we were on Deck 8 and it would get really hot out on the balcony.

I have a feeling you'll be much happier with the new cabins. Enjoy your cruise!

  17. We have already booked our two connecting balcony cabins, rooms 6355 and 6361 on the Magic.

I looked into spa rooms, but we wanted connecting rooms with balconies that have removable dividers.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't believe your balcony partitions open. While the cabins are connecting, some of the balcony partitions don't open. I found this out when trying to book Dream balconies. Our friend's balcony opens to ours, but their cabin has a connecting door to a different cabin.

Try this link to see if it works. If you are able to access the link, click on the fleet, look for the Magic, stateroom cabins, and find your deck, and then the stateroom information.
