We have been to Rome many times.

    We have used different services.

Today was our first time using Rome In Limo.

CruiserBruce if you are reading this I thought about you as you often recommend this company.

Our tour guide, the tour (Hidden Rome) and Rome In Limo was fantastic.

We saw some places for the very first time which was the purpose of the tour.

Revisited a few places which we wanted to do.

    The tour guide was magnificent.

Excellent knowledge. Spoke English very well. In fact better than most people in the USA.

    Very personable and courteous.

All in all a wonderful day.

    Hi Keith

Can you please advice if the price includes entrance fees?

We did a six hour tour.

This is a trip report from our tour:

Our tour began with a drive outside the city to visits some of the older areas and sites including Appian Way which was used as the express road back in the days of the Romans to get between Rome and Naples Enrico pointed out the original stones and explained the construction of the road.

Our next stop was the Catacombs which included a maze of underground Christian cemeteries dating back to the first century. Tours were given based on ones language and our tour was given to the two of us plus three other people. The person giving this tour was very knowledgeable.

We continued to the Park of the Aqueducts which was one of the aqueducts carrying large amounts of water into the city. We returned to the city and drove to the other side of the Tiber to visit the bohemian side of the city.

During the tour we revisited the key hole. If you look through the hole you can see the St Peter's Basilica. We visited the oldest Cathedral of Rome which is the oldest cathedral in all of Rome recognizing the Vatican is located in Vatican City. We visited a couple of other Cathedrals. We also went to the Piazza Del Campidoglio and took in stunning views of the Ancient City. We made other stops including one near the Pyramid.

We had lunch at a local restaurant called Il Corallo where we enjoyed Pizza, Salad and of course Italian Wine.

Some photos: (Please note that photos were not allowed inside the Catacombs)

This is amazing Keith, can you please give me a detailed review of what you were able to cover in a day, PLEASE?

  4. OK, so "the leaning tower" is on a lot of folks' bucket-lists.

But there's a lot more to Pisa's "Field of Miracles" than just a screwed-up tower. The church has also subsided a little but the whole place is truly amazing.

So easy to visit from Livorno too.

No admission fee to the Field, but charges to go inside the baptistry or to climb the tower.

It's always busy, but not crowded. Don't expect a photo of the tower totally devoid of tourists, but you'll not be "hemmed in" and you'll always find a seat at one of the many cafes & restaurants in the adjacent pedestrianized streets.

I'm a wine-drinker but have visited far too many wineries in the past to be interested in adding one to Pisa - a winery is a winery is a winery ;).

But if you want to take that tour I don't think that adding a winery would make it a rushed one - the Field of Miracles can be easily covered in a couple of hours.

Alternatively lots to see in Florence.

    But not from a ho-ho.

I'm a great fan of ho-ho's generally, but there are a few cities where a ho-ho isn't worth either the time or the money - and Florence is one of those places. Buses are excluded from the historic centre, which makes them pretty pointless.

That centre is tolerably compact & easy to walk, though nowhere near as easy as the Field of Miracles.

Whichever way you do it, Florence is much further from Livorno and with a great many bits to see, so most tours would neatly fit the description "a super fast-paced tour that rushes through everything":(

I'm pretty sure that $30 wouldn't cover travel to rail station + train fare + ho-ho fare - that'd surely be more like $40+

($30 would easily cover independent travel to just Pisa)

Sorry, can't help with your third choice.

    All just MHO as always

    JB :)

Thanks, this was very helpful :)

  5. YES, highly recommend!! In Lisbon, we used Suzana. Below you can see some "photo evidence" for what did with her in accomplishing a very interesting day trip north from Lisbon. Worked super well. Appreciate this nice question and follow-ups. Need more?

    THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Did a June 7-19, 2011, cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Dozens of nice visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc. We are now at 238,320 views for this live/blog re-cap, including much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at:

    www.boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1426474

The first two visuals are from Fatima with its older church, plus the newer Cathedral that seats 8600+ for mass, etc. Third is Our Lady of Victory at Batalha. It is considered the best example of gothic architecture in Portugal. Fourth is fish stew for two while dining overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Nazaré. The last two pictures are from Óbidos, the medieval town surrounded by walls. With my wife are Julie and Bruce from Long Island, shown with super expert guide Suzana (in dark green top). We experienced wonderful history and sights in sampling Portugal beyond just Lisbon.:

(Open your screen/viewer wider to see these pictures larger!)

    Great pictures, as always :)

  6. We will be disembarking in Civitavecchia at 5am per itinerary, for Rome. We want to arrange a limo service to take us to our Rome hotel. How do we know what time to tell them? As how would we know what time group Princess will assign to us? We are not in a category that would give us any priority disembarkation.

You should go with the limo company recommendation, they know it better.

  7. so im corresponding with RIL now about some tours for OCtober.

they tell me the Vatican tour is only 3 hours long, and you need to do it on a Wednesday afternoon as that is the only time the Basilica is open. Seems like that would be packed. Would we be better off to do a morning tour with them and miss the Basilica but possibly see more or have a more enjoyable/less crowded experience?

Is a personal choice and it depends on your and your interest!

I would go with their suggestion but be ready for the crowed :(
