  1. Quick question for those of you who have sailed on Celebrity during the pandemic. When doing the online check in did you upload the two pages of your vaccine certificate or just the first page that actually has the information required? Also how long did it take for celebrity to validate the certificate? Thanks in advance.

    What they said.

I recently went on a 4-day to nowhere cruise with only my phone as an experiment. I recently bought the phone as a camera as it has an incredible photo module. For shipboard photos and casual snaps, it was fantastic.

    Photos here: https://pptphoto.com/galleries/Travel/Cruising/2021-12 Navigator/index.html

To contrast that, we went on an Alaska cruise earlier this year and I took both cameras and 5 lenses and it was fantastic-er. 🙂

The new phone is more of a camera to me than a phone and takes the place of a high-end compact for daily and casual travel, but it cannot replace the mirrorless cameras and their various lenses for situations like family portraits, important events, grandkid sports and travel to interesting venues.

Besides..cameras are just fun to use!

    My 2¢...

What phone are you using for this?

We boarded this morning for the first day of our B2B (on board til February 4). Very impressed with the ship, the cleanliness, and friendliness of the crew so far. Presently sitting in the ‘Eagle’s Nest’ at the Sunset Bar, ready for Sailaway.

Life is very very good! Ready for our 15th and 16th Celebrity cruise(s)! 😀

How was the check in process?

  4. As we know the Omicron variant is highly contagious but fortunately so far seems mild… it really doesn’t matter whether you are on land or at sea .. it’s gonna spread. All we can do is take the proper precautions and hope to avoid it so our cruises don’t get cancelled.  My biggest fear is catching it enroute to the ship (on the plane or hotel stay pre cruise).

Living our cruise through you. We were 10 girlfriends that were to sail March 2020. Well that didn’t happen. We were 6 for this sailing but we cancelled. Being Canadians we have so many more hurdles. We need PCR test to return home. CDC changed isolation time (as many provinces) but to fly home if test positive is 14 day quarantine as airlines follow federal rules. I was on Reflection November and wonderful but Omicron has changed so much right now.

sorry you had to cancel but I’m not sure what you mean on the hurdles because you’re Canadian? You need a PCR test and that’s it.  If you’ve tested positive it’s a 10 day isolation starting from the day of the test.  I suppose the only real risk is having to Quarantine in Florida which in my mind keeps me away from the Canadian winter that much longer!  The real pain is the second test you may be required to do upon arrival back in Canada.  Especially if you’re are already showing a negative test… not sure how the geniuses came up with that logic but I digress… back to this great review!

    Update from X UK.

If you have booked a fly cruise package with Celebrity then yes we will assist. Here is the official spiel: If a guest who purchased flights through the cruise line is denied boarding at embarkation or reboarding, or is disembarked during the voyage due to a positive COVID-19 test or being suspected of having COVID-19, Celebrity will coordinate the travel arrangements, and cover the airline change fees and any difference in the airfare for the same class of service, necessary to fly the guest back to the city of their original flight departure point.

If such a guest did not purchase flights through Celebrity, Celebrity will assist with coordinating travel arrangements necessary to get the guest back home but will not be responsible for any associated costs

That last paragraph certainly wasn't part of the 'Cruise with Confidence' spiel when I booked.

You have to read the entire section not the very last point only in the section. See bullet #3. I’ve bolded it. It’s a catch all. The final section or bullet point refers to individuals who are a close contact but have not necessarily tested positive I would suggest.  If you test positive then the above section applies.  If you have not, then Celebrity seems to be saying they will assist with changing your flights but unless you booked through them they won’t cover the charges.  If you remained negative then conceivably you should be able to resume your original travel arrangements. If your not positive it doesn’t make sense that you would be disembarked outside of you choosing to leave should a family member be required to leave. No different then someone disembarked for any medical emergency. Bottom line always have back up travel insurance.

If you test positive for COVID-19 during the voyage, Celebrity will:
    • cover the cost of necessary COVID-19 related medical treatment onboard the ship;
    • coordinate and cover the costs of any required land-based quarantine for you and members
    of your Traveling Party; and
    • coordinate and cover the costs of travel arrangements to get you and members of your Traveling Party back home.

this section should be read separate from above!

We will also provide the same assistance to identified close contacts if they are required to quarantine onboard or are disembarked or denied re-boarding due to have been in close contact to a guest who tests positive for COVID-19.
    • If a guest who purchased flights through the cruise line is denied boarding at embarkation or reboarding, or is disembarked during the voyage due to a positive COVID-19 test or being suspected of having COVID-19, Celebrity will coordinate the travel arrangements, and cover the airline change fees and any difference in the airfare for the same class of service, necessary to fly the guest back to the city of their original flight departure point. 7. This has been an incredibly interesting and I have to say entertaining thread. @Parkinsonyour approach to the situation has been refreshing and a great example of “it is what it is”. I wish you and all others who were quarantined with this virus the best of health and recovery.  So nice to see your approach in a world full of media negativity right now.

We have a B2B planned departing Feb 25 on the Silhouette so I’m hoping things calm down a bit between now and then. South Africa seems to be indicating they’ve conquered the wave or at least have it slowly moving on.   I’m hopeful.  Why not!

I do not plan on cancelling. We will see what happens.  Hey if I end up in quarantine in Florida how bad could it really be missing out on more Canadian winter and having to stay.

Considering I’m 40, in good health, vaxxed, and boosted, I’d say there is a bigger chance of falling overboard and being eaten by sharks than of suffering serious problems from Covid.

Then think of the other passengers who may not be in such good health or have some underlying condition. Being fully vaxxed and boosted may keep you off the ventilator but you can still pass it around. A mask protects you and others... its called a community...the more we all work together on this the quicker we get out of this.  I for one have a B2B in February that I cant wait to get on mask required or not.   I'll be at the martini bar... I'll use a straw under my mask if need be!

  9. I am not sure that you could actually board a plane if you were positive.  Most likely would have to wait out the virus or have tested negative a couple of time.  Unfortunate for sure.

I am curious to know if one tests positive and their partner is negative what do they do about the accommodation as I assume the person who is positive is obviously quarantined to their room.

Cartagena was very hot from what I recall when we were there before. Of course I say that as the weather where I am is -9 C which for my American friends is 15 F.  Thanks for the picture tour today.

Please don’t put words in my mouth. When crew are *at work,* it is Celebrity’s policy, clearly stated on their web site, that they be masked.  Along with a number of other clearly stated policies providing for social distancing of guests in dining venues and elsewhere that are being ignored by the powers that be on the Silhouette. I am reporting what I have personally observed and experienced this week.  Folks may or may not be comfortable with what’s going on, but those are the facts.

Nothing like hijacking someone’s live review thread…go start your own “I’m not happy thread because….”  now can we get back to looking forward to Stealthdog’s live review! I for one look forward to it! I may even wear my mask while reading it!

Thank you Celebrity for charging me for a bottle of wine I did not order, adding it to my room and billing my credit card the morning of disembarkation. I did check my bill before I went to bed on the last night and it wasn't there. After multiple phone calls and an email to my Celebrity agent, you still won't remove the charge. Guess that $118 was more important than me going on future cruises.

Bye…. I’ll be at the Martini Bar!

  12. So to be clear... If you have a flight at 5 pm on a Wednesday and leaving out of YYZ you take the test Wednesday morning  at the Airport you are good to not only use that test result for the Flight into the US but also (as of the rules today) for your cruise departing 2 days later. Am I understanding this correctly? Its actually within  one day and not the prior day to the initial departure.

I'd think that this is something they might look out for. It would be very easy to simply "forget" that you were even on a cruise, and claim that you spent your week or two in Miami or Fort Lauderdale. Of course, CBSA can easily verify through CBP whether you exited the US, other than back to Canada. All these integrated systems make it so easy to nail you down if they are curious for any reason.

True…. Your passport will indicate that you were out of the country and that you reentered the US via a port.  You still need to go through customs when getting off the ship.  The system will flag you. Not worth whatever fine is related to that.

Although there is an inconvenience and unless you had to go to work a few days, being in your home isolating is much better than when they were forcing folks into a hotel to isolate.  Glass half full…it is what it is…

Well, Celebrity wants to make THEIR problem my problem. They can't process the FCC on time, and their wait time is rediculous.

I have better things to do with 2 hours of my time than to sit on hold with a cruise line and when I asked to be compensated for my time, they offered me a WHOLE $25. OBC! I said no thanks.

Every heard about cutting off your nose to spite your face? I asked for dinner. It would have cost them about $45. in real money, they said no. It will cost them thousands in the long run. We didn't get to Elite plus by not spending money. Hey, their choice.

I remember a restaurant who's certificate I won. We didn't use it all. There was about $7.00 left on the certificate. They said we couldn't keep it. Think about it, had we gone back with our $7.00, we would have spent at least $20.00 to use their $7.00. Not good thinking on their part. We never went back.

There is always someone who wants my business. I will find them.

Bye…. I’ll be at the Martini Bar!
