  1. Please don't sweat the whole tipping thing.  The cruise line charges you the base tip amount.  Leave that in place and if you feel someone has been nice or otherwise helpful....give them a bit extra.

Also, I like to remember the staff really working their way up.  One cruise there was a bathroom attendant by the main lounge.  Every night he would open the door, smile, say "have a nice evening" etc.  and, of course, the bathroom was spotless.  The last evening, I gave him a tip .... his look of genuine surprise and gratitude was "priceless".

Please remember these staff members work so hard for themselves and their families.  They are far away from home for long periods of time and many come from situations that are difficult for most of us to even imagine.    Saying "thank you" and putting a few extra dollars in their hand is much appreciated.....and so is a positive comment card mention.

  2. If you want a peak dining time, book now and pre-pay.  You will have the reservation at the current discount.

If there is a better 1st night deal when you board....politely ask the maitre'd if they can do anything to give you the better deal.  They want to make you happy.

But, if you wait until you board to make a reservation, you might possibly get a slightly better deal ...but if they don't have a time you want....what good is that?

  3. OP asked for "the  best romantic ambiance".   IMHO, a group party at LPC or eating in one of the venues you can eat in all week is not the answer.

Like many here I also suggest a lovely quiet romantic dinner out on your veranda.  See the stars and listen to the sounds of the ocean as the ship cruises....and it's February!

Talk to your butler in advance.  Ask for any combination of restaurant items you like.  They will make it happen.  Don't forget to have the butler take pictures...it will be a great evening!

  4. First....Breath ....now exhale....Relax.    All is good.  You are going on a cruise.  Now for some basics:

Rule #1:  Don't let a TA pick your cabin.  They don't have to live in it ...  and don't care as much as you do.  You have to learn where to book.

Rule #2:  Tell us your departure date.  We all know websites (that we cannot mention due to forum rules) that will show all available rooms.  Tell us your date and we can tell you if you should move and to where.

That's what makes CC so great....  so much info here!

The members here will help you...just give us the info we need to help.  Talk to us!

  5. It's the first night of your Honeymoon cruise......book it.  MDR is a bit "nutty" the first night anyway (you are not missing anything) and night #2 is usually more dress-up in MDR  (now called evening chic)

Be sure to tell them ( t Tuscan) the occasion before you are seated.  I would call or stop in early on embarkation day and let them know.  They should note it in their record.

We had a great staff at Tuscan on Summit in January.

    Congrats and enjoy your honeymoon!

3144 is next to some undefined crew space.  Sometimes lots of banging was going on in there.  Other times completely quiet.  3142 is fine.

That white space is the kitchen/galley for the main dining room.  Took a tour once and entered thru the Specialty kitchen next door.  The MDR kitchen/galley is huge and also on deck 2

    That probably explains the "banging".

  7. I have had this trouble with AA even before the 737 situation.  AA made a massive terrible flight time change....

I remember because I called and told the rep (Pleasantly, so she know I was making a joke)   "I am not a piece of freight that doesn't care when it flies".

She laughed and worked with me.  It all worked out.

As usual, call and be polite and see if they can help you .

  8. Large bottles were no longer available on Summit in January 2019.  They used to be and mostly solved this issue of getting enough water.  But alas, (like many good things on X) they are no more.

Suggest you make friends with a server you see regularly somewhere and talk to them.  They know what the "system" allows them to do for you. A few $$$ spread around to them won't hurt your cause either.

  9. Another vote for a private tour company.  It's too significant to see with a "busload".

Sincerely suggest that anyone going to tour the D-Day area take a look at Steven Ambrose's D-Day book.  Reading that before going (yes it is VERY long) really enhanced appreciation of the sites and what happened there.

Since you were able to be on the ship so early on embarkation day, were you allowed to disembark and explore old San Juan if you wanted or did you have to stay on the ship once you embarked?

Yes - You can check in and leave the ship in SJU since Summit departs late (usually 8:30 pm).   We have gone for an early dinner in Old San Juan.

Just check muster drill and "all aboard" times.  This past January (2019) muster drill was an inconvenient 4:45pm.  Lots of people missed it.  Prior years it was 7:30pm....so it's been changing.
