  1. We are currently on QE and booked Barc to Mel and thought it was one segment but once we boarded we had a letter that said we had two allotments.  One allotment for barc to singapore and the other singapore to melbourne.  I do not like it that they do not allow you to book using your CWC prior because once we boarded we are paying $36 for a 24 hour period, most of which we are not using because of overnight portion.

  2. We are on QE and were expecting changes, but none have ever materialized. We have not seen or heard of anything threatening to us, although in this neck of the woods the pirate precautions are in force. We are due in Salalah, Oman the day after tomorrow and still no mention of changes.

I’m glad you thought it worth it. To me, it sounds more like an endurance test than a holiday, but then I’m a complete wimp. 😀 Was your husband OK?

Yes, he was ok.  Initially I went in alone, but half down on a rest platform I turned and looked up to see how far I had come amd there he was! He had come just inside the entrance and felt it was not as bad as he had anticipated.  I was very proud of him.

I have heard that it is better to do a land tour to Cairo but I will table that for now.

  4. We had taken advice of water, hats, sunscreen, toilet paper, some USD, and hand sanitizer.  It was a very long day and the toilet on the tour bus was pretty disgusting, but santized myself thoroughly....lol. The hotel we ate at was nice and helped to break up the trip. The V of K was very hard.  The tomb we went into was steep and hot but thankfully had huge ceiling height and enough room for the walk down and back up.  Many had to take a short break when walking back up. We could not attempt any more with the time constraints and considering the heat strain. But at least we got to see one. Karnak was nicer but our tour guide tried rushing everywhere and was not waiting for everyone before she started the commentary which had most of us rolling our eyes. The Cunard escort acted very professional and attempted to act for our benefit, which we appreciated.

We got back around 930 and were so tired, but glad we did it and now had a few sea days to recuperate.

  5. Yes, the wind kicked up quite a bit, lightning all around but the waves not too bad so no seasickness for me.  It seemed that the storm did not last too long and was around 3am.

The next morning several areas down Deck 2 hallway had fans blowing most of the day to try and dry up water that came from somewhere.

All but that day, the sea has been pretty calm, for which I am thankful.

Here is the morning sunrise this morning and a snapshot of where our location was earlier.

  6. Hi all!  We are on QE heading toward Safaga and we and others had been wondering if we would go and now we know we are.

We have, yesterday, had the safety drill for this area for which I had previously read about.

As we are going to Luxor for our excursion tomorrow, we watched the shore excursion lady, Lesley, give her talk.  I have read blogs over the years so was a bit more prepared for the journey, but DH had a meltdown and was close to backing out. The long drive, the thought of no toilets, the heat (which he normally loves), and the "long tunnels which are crowded and wont make claustrophobics happy" was all he heard.  We had discussed all of this over the lady year, but he must have been not "hearing" me....

I spent half a day trying to calm him and then we went to the shore exc desk and spoke to a nice gentlemen who answered all his questions and showed him a short video from a trip he recently took.  It showed the tunnels but they were bigger than my DH realized and that helped but he still thinks he will wait outside for me.

So, we will see how it goes.

I would appreciate any advice about your experiences or tips!

  7. Today the sunrise photo is sitting outside Port Said waiting our turn? to enter the canal.  We have never cruised in this area.

I post these pictures both here and on the QE location thread so please let me know if I should be doing it in one location. Some people check one or the other.

  8. Sfred, thanks for directing me to the QE internet access points and great job.

We are outside Port Said at the moment and the sunrise is very pretty again today.

According to cruisemapper, there are two cruise ships near us.  The first I saw was Celebrity Edge and the second was Silver Spirit.  I am adding a picture of the Edge as it seemed impressive and a different look.

However I think the chocolate biscuits (Prince biscuits?) on the right may have sneaked onboard via another route rather than supplied as standard......

Milk is always available via the Lido / Kings Court.

LOL....After I attached I saw "my DH's" biscuits wanted their picture taken without me even catching it.....thanks for alerting me.

  11. Sunrise near Crete #1 and then a few minutes or so later.

I am trying to strategically use the CWC Diamond internet allotment so will be trying to post pictures every few days.

I wish they would go back to the minute allotments rather than these 24 hour blocks.  The spped has been ok for us as we do the minimal and no streaming.  I have noticed the internet boxes in the staterooms hallways and may try to do reconnaisance? to list where these boxes are on each deck if I have the time.

If anyone has questions let me know and I will try to answer.  I will also try to do a final trip report later.
